I don`t mind Isabella`s bossom. Some women do have large breasts after all. I doubt every female in the game have the same knockers as she does.

Okay then. Everyone wins. I want my mages to be scrawny, I want my warriors to be buff and I want my rogues to be lithe. Male and Female.

That's what people said about Bethany, Mama Hawke, Female Hawke and such.

Its probably a financial decision. Less resources put into different armors (..)

But these other armours are already modeled and put in the game, as they're wearable (and worn) by other characters. Preventing individual follower from equipping that gear doesn't save resources nor costs in this situation.

It just restricts player's options where it's completely not needed -- if i decide/want to put different armour on a follower then clearly i don't put as much weight into "unique iconic appearance" of that character as the designer or as someone who will choose to keep them in their unique outfit. Or i don't share the designer's idea that particular outfit makes character look good. I just don't get why they feel this must be "our way or the highway" to the point where the alternative becomes removed.

I do get they may see appeal in selling horse follower armour DLC, though.

$5 says Isabella is the debut of the default female mesh, with follower textures.

I dare it say it looks real, unlike most video game bosoms.

QFT. No more females witch stick-arms lifting 2-handers, and away with the Mr.Olympia mages :wizard:

very interesting and informative podcast!

just wondering about a few things:

1. Will Hawke get his/her own unique talent tree?

2. This was sort of touched upon in the interview, but will we be able upgrade our weapons to make them parts of our Hawke's story, by making them more powerful as Hawke levels up?

Kind of like what the questioner was asking in regards to Sten's sword, you find yourself with a weapon that should have meaning to that character's story ( or maybe one that you like and want to make your character's primary weapon ). But, past a certain level, that weapon needs to be discarded in favor of more powerful weapons as Hawke levels up and progresses through the game.

In DA2, an example I can think of would be the Staff of Parthalan. Based on the description of the staff, this weapon has personal significance to Hawke. It's almost like a family heirloom. As such, once mage Hawke gets her hands on the staff, many players might want to make that weapon her primary weapon that she will use until the end of the game. Her signature weapon, so to speak.

It would be nice if we were able to continuously upgrade or level up the staff to match Hawke's own progression. That would be better than having to discard the staff past a certain point in favor of more powerful weapons.

That's the whole point. The male is portrayed as a hulking alpha male whereas the female is portrayed as a sultry vixen. They are both just as stereotyped even if they confer to different stereotypes.

I don't see how it's the same, considering one idealizes the male while the other puts down the female.

Wait. You actually think that most women don't long to be that sultry vixen capable of making any man swoon with a mere glance?

It's every bit as idealized as the hulking alpha male.

I both agree and disagree with the_one. The way the female body is portrayed is not the same as the male body when it comes to implications. Male idealization is strong, powerful, and in control. Female is "I'd like to tap that."

BUT, the male ideal is no more healthy for men than the female one is for women. If you look at the imagery of a 'good' male body from the 60's-70's to the present, there's a very radical shift. Look at the original GJ Joe vs a modern one. Or superhero bodies. The average superhero in the 1970s looked like an athletic guy in an outfit, now they look like men who spend four hours a day in pumping iron.

It's no coincidence that you see figures for male eating disorders, plastic surgery, and beauty product steadily rising.

I don't think it's as ubiquitous or ingrained as the unrealistic standards for the female body, but the idealized imagery for masculinity now-a-days isn't healthy even if it is powerful looking.

 I'm just...not seeing that. They are rather...no, very disproportionate with the rest of her. It's not just the breast size mind you--it's also her waist and musculature that's the problem. Women born naturally with her body type are very, very, very rare. There should be at least more meat on her.

And if companion armors can't be changed, that means both Bethany and Isabela walk around with those ridiculous open tops.

I'm OK with that, there was nothing worse than seeing Morrigan in some green ugly ass long mage outfit in DA1.

Good god yes! She appears in that awesome witches thing just so that later you have to put her in those awful Tivinter horrors.

That was the real incentive to do Morrigan's quest, wasn't it?

How's about making a thread comparing the idealization of both Hawke and Isabela before Chris comes back not bearing digital gifts?

I'd appreciate it, for whatever that's worth.

I think that a lot of women playing a female character who's supposed to be a fighter want her to look athletic.  You know, like she can fight.  Tip for the unaware- having huge boobs makes this harder.

Why this is so difficult for people to understand, I'll never know.  Or why it's so difficult to grasp that it is a big deal for people who want to be able to take their PC, if not every other woman in the game, seriously.

Alright, we both have our individual boob stance and we're not likely to agree. Boobs have a way of derailing topics around here so lets not pursue it.

Big ****** don't make a sultry vixen and when was the last time you've seen a man swoon?

Alternatively, big muscles are useful for moving my furniture. Ergo, big muscles > big ******.

This. Her shoulders are as narrow as my thigh.

Hyperbole, I suppose. but it doesen't change the fact that her entire body would have to be far more muscular in order for that posture to be natural. Hell, she'd have a stronger back than most military men just from keeping a proper posture all day.

Well considering how he made a point to say that you can switch weapons, but left this unclear I think each companion has just one outfit.

I'm not sure what to think about the companion armors.

a) it makes them more unique, they look different from any other person in the game which is good

B) if you don't like how they look, then you're kinda stuck: not use them or try to ignore there looks

I understand that 'b' is not a big deal for some people, but I'm a girl so I pay a lot of attention to the looks of my hero and companions. :P

Too bad Isabela's outfit is fixed, now I have to watch her walk around in those amazing boots all the time. I'm so jealous. x.x

And how exactly is this different from the many men playing mages who would like for them to actually look like mages instead of bodybuilders?

I understand that it's a big deal as I've had to fight the alpha male ideal for years upon years. I just don't appreciate the double standards.

There's big and then there's BIG. I don't mind natural muscles. This isn't natural and it's no more useful than a pair of plastic ******.
