For me it all depends on how many different outfits you can give your companions over the course of the decade. Two each was pushing it for me in ME2, especially as some were incredibly underwhelming. If they add in enough variety as well as the ability to add runes (or something) to you companions stuff to add an extra sense of customisation and upgrading (the belts etc. seem like a step in this direction anyway) then I'm all for it. As others have said it allows the companions to look much more unique and stand out with their own visual style and identity. Like some others I often gave my companions inferior items in Origins because it suited them better (Asala and Zevran's armor are both good examples).

It sounds to me like the armor will visually update over the course of the game, yeah. But I'm unclear whether upgrades you make will have a visual effect. I'm hoping yes, but it's probably no.

How does this bode for re-playability though? If your characters wears pretty much the same in every playthrough. And it also sounded like they would be using weapons that suited their personality mostly. Isabella using 2 daggers etc. I kind of suspect you can`t even equip her with an axe (for example). And where the heck would one stuff runes on her outfit? Down her bra?

Please, if you're going to start some pointless argument about her face take it elsewhere.

could i start an argument about console players being too stupid to manage several inventories forced Bioware to dumb down the game  instead?

Not unless you find a non-combative way of phrasing your argument.

Unfortunately, Anarya, there is no possible way for them to do it in such a way. So we're just going to have to deal with another 'debate.' Pity too, there was such oppurtunity for this to not be another one of those threads.

i'd go more for different outfits with upgrades that set them apart from each other, such as, this outfit has upgrades that emphasize on dodging, this one emphasizes more on mental resistance and so forth.

I'd like for the outfits to update depending on the scene.

Say it's winter in Kirkwall and Isabela comes out, I'd like to see her dressed up in winter clothing instead of having no pants.

I highly, highly doubt they'll give any extra unique looking outfits over the course of the game. Just like Garrus stayed in his ratty armor the whole time despite having plenty of chances to no doubt get something new or Morrigan staying in her scraps of fabric despite trudging through the snowy mountain in Haven. The whole point besides claiming "unique" looks is that it frees up memory.

And I can all but guarantee they'll be pumping out the horse armor....I mean companion armor DLC thanks to this- just like ME2.

Now that I think about it, there will likely be at least 2 outfits for each companion.

At the start of the 'real' section in Lothering, Bethany is wearing a white shirt with a red scarf.

In Varric's exaggerated scene, Bethany is wearing a fancy green mage robe. I think it's safe to presume she'll be wearing this outfit in the real version by the end of the game when Hawke is champion.

At this point, and with this info, it's really a matter of trusting or not trusting the dev team. Personally, I trust them. I think they'll give us at least a couple of outfits per companion.

It's yet another step away from party based RPGs. That much is for certain.

How so? We're talking about how, you know, party members are handled.

It's called Dragon Age: Origins. It's a very good game, I think you should play it.

That was the tag for Origins, not the series.

Wait, why are you still here? You must be very trusting, or very foolish.

The meaning of"spiritual successor" depends on what you consider the "spirit" of BG to have been in the first place. I still haven't heard of anything I liked about BG that won't be in DA2, except for things that DA2 will add or do better than BG did.
