Why would she have an icon for her outfit if it was completely unchanging?

Also, when Laidlaw says, "As they progress, and actually, it's worth noting that we are covering a 10 year history here, the follower's armor will progress on its own as well-- like the follower will, between periods of time, as they progress, they will actually grow stronger-- they'll kind of keep up-- they're not going to be in the same stuff they were wearing at level 1."

That seems to indicate to me that it will be changing visually. You could say he's just using ambiguous wording to give him the wiggle room to say he never actually said that and the outfit stays the same visually the whole way through, but I'm going to be an optimist on this until proven otherwise.

It's yet another step away from party based RPGs. That much is for certain.

How so? We're talking about how, you know, party members are handled.

Because it further restricts our ability to handle party members. I figured it was fairly self-explanatory.

Lets say your character is a"colonel", and the people who follow you is your "army". Now how come the colonel can`t make sure the troops are properly equipped when going to war. He has several armours laying about, but the army would rather be dressed in push-up bras, and scarves. Sure one can upgrade the bra and whatsnot. Stick magic rocks in it. But it still removes alot from the colonels leadership, doesn`t it?

So will each character have unique undies or something? And more importantly can we undress them?

I highly, highly doubt they'll give any extra unique looking outfits over the course of the game. Just like Garrus stayed in his ratty armor the whole time despite having plenty of chances to no doubt get something new or Morrigan staying in her scraps of fabric despite trudging through the snowy mountain in Haven. The whole point besides claiming "unique" looks is that it frees up memory.

And I can all but guarantee they'll be pumping out the horse armor....I mean companion armor DLC thanks to this- just like ME2.

I had no problem changing Morrigan out of her Chasind gear whenever I felt like it.  What stopped you from slapping some Tevinter robes on her, or even a Chantry robe?  Both changed her appearance significantly.  Or were you expecting her to change clothes automatically?

And well, I could point out the whole "ME and DA are developed by entirely different teams" thing yet again, but I loathe talking to walls, and I can tell I'm going to hit one.  If anything, the DA team seems to go overboard on  items that they give away rather than charging for stuff.

One thing I wasn't too clear on, listening to the podcast: Mike said the companions will change equipment at points throughout the game and get upgrades so they won't be stuck in starter gear for the whole game. Does this mean their equipment will also change visually? Or are they going to basically wear the same outfit for a decade? Clarification would be appreciated.

Some may, but that is more the exception rather than the rule. Their equipment, however, will evolve over time from a statistical point of view, as will your access to upgrades. Apologies for the confusion.

I have a feeling they probably will have unique underwear to lock them into the same body model and keep them visually consistent rather than going from slim-framed Morrigan-in-Morrigan-robes to voluptuous-and-slightly-misshapen-generic-female-model-with-Morrigan's-head-attached for the romance scene.

So, companions will wear the same thing in hundreds of battles over 10 years ?

Well I do hope they wash them, though after a few years I doubt they'd be wearing more than a few rags after so many battles

Which I think will fit the game well. The way I see, companion gear is seperate from the gear used by the PC because those characters have their own lives outside of their adventures with Hawke. It would be pretty weird to see Varric still in the studded leather armor I gave him 8 years ago.

Wouldn't the same type of clothes go out of style after a few years? It'd be kinda hard to find the exact same thing to buy every few months for 10 years

From a lore standpoint makes sense, always thought it was weird how the warden would order his companions to change clothes. As long as they change clothing every period I'll like it.

Or not all followers follow you for a decade. I've always had the feeling that we have a smaller group of core followers that are with you through to the end, Varric and such, and those could be the exception as far as changing clothes over time. Others would be with you for certain time frames, and they wouldn't really need to change over time.

They'd still be around town and whatnot, but they wouldn't need to prepare for greater and greater battles.

They won't. Which contradicts the lore more than in DAO

Leliana refuses to appear in another DA game unless she gets new shoes at least every month!

How does this bode for re-playability though? If your characters wears pretty much the same in every playthrough. And it also sounded like they would be using weapons that suited their personality mostly. Isabella using 2 daggers etc. I kind of suspect you can`t even equip her with an axe (for example). And where the heck would one stuff runes on her outfit? Down her bra?

They get the same money out of you if you play the game once, or don't even finish, than if you play it into the ground.  So who cares about replayability?  And why have all those choices?  Choices cost the devs money.

The fact that this pisses some of us off is being weighed against the men who are going to buy the game because they get to stare at Isabela's ass and huge gazongas the entire game.  Huge gazongas win.

Rawksauce.

No Hawkesauce with a dash of Chipolte BBQ sauce.
