Nah doesn't look like it, you can see Hawke is wearing 'Ferelden field boots' in his screenshot, and Hawke himself has all the old slots. It looks to me like for the player character it's business as usual. Still hoping at least a handful of companions get different looks over the ten years however.
But I think the notion that there will be far less looting and thus far less gear is definitely not out of question. Since we're only properly equipping Hawke with boots, armor, gauntlets and helms those'll be much less numerous this go around. Which makes me wonder how the economy is possibly changing as selling loot was a big part of Origins...
I see what you mean but while there will quite possibly be less armor being looted, it will hopefully be more interesting to look at or with more interesting enchantments and such. As for looting in general, I think it's all still there. You can see the crafting, gifts/misc, and junk sections all still present in the inventory, plus they even included one or two lootable darkspawn in the old Lothering demo. Sure it's uncertain at this point, but it doesn't seem like DA is copying Mass Effect's style, more just utilizing the idea of companion costumes and making it better.

What about Hawke? He/she still has the headgear slot, I thought it was as much an issue for the main character as the companions?

Sure Hawke has the headgear slot like Origins, but Isabela didn't. So it would seem if you don't even give companions any headgear you've partially solved the problem of a toggle. Not that the headgear toggle would be any problem if we get a toolset for DA2...
Well I'm not someone who was ever bothered by the headgear thing (beyond there being an occasional silly scene due to the character wearing a helmet), I've always felt the solution lay with both better design on the clothing/armor (which we know they have attempted to do) and players just not equiping a helmet if they don't like the look of it. I frequently didn't equip a helmet in Origins or equiped a weaker helm so that it fit with how I viewed said character, it hardly made the game unbeatable.
As for Isabela not having a headgear slot, that doesn't mean companions don't wear helms, it just means said helm would be included in their outfit (such as Isabela's headscarf).
