Yeah, because that subset of female players is foremost in game executives' marketing strategy.  [/sarcasm]  And I do love the irony of the phrase "your so ignorant."  LOL  Ah, the internet.

Oh noez (intentional), she caughtz (intentional) mez (intentional) mispunctuaten (intentional) on teh (intentional) intratubes(intentional)!  Tis okay though I realize that is pretty much all you have as a fallback position since youve(intentional) been out argued (by others, I was mostly going for teh humors) that you fall back to being a Grammarian flame warrior shows how weak the position youve (intentional) staked out is.

Do let me know if I missed an intentional tag!

This would have sent me into panic mode once upon a time. Having made the decision to cut the heartstrings to Bioware is actually very freeing.

Same here. In fact its the CONSOLE gamers who get screwed here. Those of us that dont have the PCs to run a game like DA2 cant download armor mods like PC gamers can.

So f'in pissed off about this. Sad that they had to dumb the game down to ME2 levels. Way to go Bioware, last 50 bucks you'll be getting from me day 1. I'll buy bargin bin from now on.

Did we really make it five pages before someone blamed console gamers?

Expected it to go further.
I'm a console gamer and I loved the inventory, being able to switch out armor between companions, so don't blame it on us.

It isn't console gamers that are to blame, it's Bioware's assumptions about what console gamers want, and the need to compete with other console titles that are geared more toward delivering a simpler cinematic experience than a complex player-shaped one.

In the end this is both good and bad. The generic models were awful in DAO. Its just that I know this is going to lead to us having to pay for DLC if we want additional outfits for companions. IF they go that route they should make it like Origins where they put outfits/armors in quest, rather than the ME2 route.

The fact that this pisses some of us off is being weighed against the men who are going to buy the game because they get to stare at Isabela's ass and huge gazongas the entire game.  Huge gazongas win.

For all your talk of sexism, you sure don't seem to mind stereotyping men.

Oh, the melons are for my benefit as a female hetero?  Wow, I had no idea.

Anyway, I don't recall ever talking about sexism.  I do recall talking about wanting to take my PC and the female NPCs seriously.  Is that the same thing?

Nah doesn't look like it, you can see Hawke is wearing 'Ferelden field boots' in his screenshot, and Hawke himself has all the old slots. It looks to me like for the player character it's business as usual. Still hoping at least a handful of companions get different looks over the ten years however.

But I think the notion that there will be far less looting and thus far less gear is definitely not out of question. Since we're only properly equipping Hawke with boots, armor, gauntlets and helms those'll be much less numerous this go around. Which makes me wonder how the economy is possibly changing as selling loot was a big part of Origins...

I see what you mean but while there will quite possibly be less armor being looted, it will hopefully be more interesting to look at or with more interesting enchantments and such. As for looting in general, I think it's all still there. You can see the crafting, gifts/misc, and junk sections all still present in the inventory, plus they even included one or two lootable darkspawn in the old Lothering demo. Sure it's uncertain at this point, but it doesn't seem like DA is copying Mass Effect's style, more just utilizing the idea of companion costumes and making it better.

Apollo Starflare wrote...
What about Hawke? He/she still has the headgear slot, I thought it was as much an issue for the main character as the companions?

Brockololly wrote...

Sure Hawke has the headgear slot like Origins, but Isabela didn't. So it would seem if you don't even give companions any headgear you've partially solved the problem of a toggle. Not that the headgear toggle would be any problem if we get a toolset for DA2...

Well I'm not someone who was ever bothered by the headgear thing (beyond there being an occasional silly scene due to the character wearing a helmet), I've always felt the solution lay with both better design on the clothing/armor (which we know they have attempted to do) and players just not equiping a helmet if they don't like the look of it. I frequently didn't equip a helmet in Origins or equiped a weaker helm so that it fit with how I viewed said character, it hardly made the game unbeatable.

As for Isabela not having a headgear slot, that doesn't mean companions don't wear helms, it just means said helm would be included in their outfit (such as Isabela's headscarf).

They can dlc all the outfits and armors they want as long as they give us a good selection in the game.

ME2 didn't do that. Very annoying. I was done playing the game by the time all the new armors and weapons came out and they were all overpriced dlc anyway.

I had held out hope that all the "DA2 will be pretty much ME2 with swords" that every single preview mentions was overreacting, especially since we kept being reassured it wasn't so. So awesome to see Bioware slowly remove core rpg features like party customization to dumb the game down tor their shiny new target audience.

Being a faithful day 1 customer for a decade was fun while it lasted I suppose.

It's like a magic trick how you can pull things from nowhere. I said you were stereotyping men, saying that we're buying the game because one of the followers has an ass and 'bazongas' that we're chemically mezmerized by.

As in, we're all the same, and all looking for the same thing, and taking said thing from Dragon Age II.

Anyway, I don't recall ever talking about sexism.  I do recall talking about wanting to take my PC and the female NPCs seriously.  Is that the same thing?

You are quite literally judging a woman based on the size of her breasts.

And then pointing at men like we're in the wrong.

One thing I wasn't too clear on, listening to the podcast: Mike said the companions will change equipment at points throughout the game and get upgrades so they won't be stuck in starter gear for the whole game. Does this mean their equipment will also change visually? Or are they going to basically wear the same outfit for a decade? Clarification would be appreciated.

Some may, but that is more the exception rather than the rule. Their equipment, however, will evolve over time from a statistical point of view, as will your access to upgrades. Apologies for the confusion.

Hm. Well, thanks for the clarification. I'm back to having mixed feelings as I do wish we'd be able to give them more than one outfit. I think it's a safe bet that we'll be seeing outfit packs come out as DLC.

Well that means I'm going to be stuck with specific characters the whole time. *sighs* Fabulous. Half of the fun of DA was changing people's classes and mixing your parties up.

One game I had Sten be a sword and shielder, Alistair a DWW, and Morrigan was an Arcane Warrior. It was glorious. B)

How is having unique companion outfits dumb to begin with? It actually makes a bit more sense from an RP point of view. And it's not as if you're losing the actual statistical customization. You just won't be playing dress-up anymore.
Perhaps I've overlooked the intellectual requirements of playing dress-up?
