Put on full football gear & a full school backpack, that's about what they carry

Football pads - even the helmet - are pretty light, especially when compared with military grade body armor and a helmet.

This makes me want to pull out that
comparion shot between Bethany, Ivy Valentine and Pamela Anderson that
indicated that Bethany had a larger bust and a much
smaller waist than Pamela, and was at least the same proportion as Ivy
Valentine. If you really want me to get it, I will. The female body
model is drastically disproportionate.

Honestly, it shocks me that people will try to argue that point, out of any of them. That they really aren't.

I maintain Bethany looks basically like Diora Baird.

Did you add in the backpack?

Mot soldiers carry about 40lb of armour, 40lbs of ammuntion, coms, ECM, water, weapon, daysack with maybe another 40lbs. You can TAB (ie walk) all day long if you're fit enough.

Hmm okay that's bit different from the original point then. If you can actually walk all day long with load like that, then it doesn't seem like the DA characters who do that are less believable than someone trying to fight in a scarf? Especially given their armour is ~20-30 lbs total. I mean sure, even if you would get exhausted after few minutes if fight actually breaks out, most of these fights are over quite sooner than that.

From the moment I entered the thread, I think I agreed on this point.  At the same time, however, I don't care either way.  But, to be honest, if I had designed Bethany, she wouldn't look like that.

I've said it a few times--I understand why some people don't care, or why they think either body type is fine, or why they'll defend BioWare's decision. I understand that it doesn't break everyone's immersion nor that they feel the same way as me.

But it is something that bothers me, which is why I talk about it.

I never thought she was wearing a corset.  I was just reminded of corsets when I looked at her waist.

Well, that's why I asked. I was having trouble telling.

You made me Google Ivy Valentine.  Why did you do that?   Oh, and need we point out that Lothering probably didn't have a plastic surgeon with a shed full of silicone.

Re armor, I generally pictured my Wardens doing their daily traveling in leathers and only wearing heavy armor (if at all) for big battles.

Depends what you're filling it with.  Lead maybe?  To make up for the fact that football pads barely weigh anything.

Because if someone attempted to fight with a scarf against any armored foe they would die

It only feels like nothing because you wear it & it is distributed like field plate

Granted, the pads I wore in high school were crappy pre-war second hand pieces of crap, but my skinny should-have-been-running-track ass could lift the lot - helmet included, facemask through the neckhole - in one hand without breaking even the slightest effort.  They really didn't weigh much, I'm not really under-selling it here.

Armor only weighed about 40lbs as others have said so pads + backpack seems that right number

I've worn chainmail once. That stuff gets annoying on the shoulders after a while.

Well. You know. You said "pre-war" and I thought this:

And was like "how old are you?"

Then I remembered the other wars.

Oh god, any type of mail sucks, it drags on your shoulders & will shift it's weight around. Not recommend to wear at all

My Cousin developed big breasts early on and was always troubled by them, she could never join athletics or do any activity that required a lot of movement because they'd cause her a lot of pain when moving around. She toughed it out.

At around 22, she had started to have trouble sleeping at night and was incapable of walking correctly because of her breasts causing a lot of back pain. She was said my the doctors that she shouldn't sleep on her back or her breasts could (literally) kill her by stopping oxygen flow.

She had them removed and felt liberated, doing the things she missed out as a child. While I know this is a fantasy universe, my suspicious of disbelief is challenged heavily when we've got women that have gigantic breasts leaping around and prancing in the meadow of darkspawn gore.

My suspicious of disbelief is FURTHER challenged when you need to consider that those breasts are considered huge by today's standard where growth hormones in our food and implants are now commonplace. While it wasn't impossible for a woman to have breasts of that size in say... Medieval England, their waists wouldn't be the size of women you'd see nowadays. They'd have a far more supportive waist and build, they'd also be uncommon instead of something you'd see by turning around.

I'm not a fan of fan service (ironic, isn't it?) and this sort of thing does tend to hurt one's sense of realism in the world. If the ladies of Dragon Age 2 had their cup sizes reduced, they'd still be considered "fan service" material and normal to people who don't want such proportions. Morrigan for example had smaller breasts than the rest of the Origins cast, however she was still loved by the masses.

There is a middle that can be struck here between both sides.

No that was my original point. Gothic armour weights about 65lbs, it acts as a massive convection barrier to your bodies natural cooling processes, it's flexible but uncomfortable. You wouldn't want to wear it for walking or jogging about the counstryside like your characters do in DAO. You'd ideally ride in it and you'd fight from horseback and once your lance was done skewering some poor sod, you'd use your horse's speed to bugger off for a breather and a new lance.

Full plate armour isn't practical for how its used by the characters in DAO is what I'm saying.

At the same time, it simply can't be ignored that there were so many mods made for breast size, as well other things.

Though there's mods that do a lot of things, one should not ignore the faults of every platform because there's a mod on the PC that you're capable of downloading.

Haha I've seen photos of my grandfather in that getup.  The war I meant was Vietnam.  And I'm 25.  Yes, my high school was that cheap.

Our AD was the basketball coach.  We had a beautiful court.  Go figure.

Oh, of course.  I just find it funny that in some games, even if things are already a little huge, we'll find mods to make them bigger.  And I'm certain the same thing will happen in DA2.

I'm slightly disappointed this thread didn't derail into a discussion about Diora Baird. Those are great. Anyway, I agree with Dave. Mass Effect 1 was in many ways the best example of that kind of compromise in a Bioware game I can think of.

I'd like to think we're not all sexual deviants. I mean, if the mods for sexier outfits and just plain sex are to be taken as indicative as what we as a fandom want, I'll have to put myself on Family Watchdog.

I really doubt that many gamers think to themselves "I say, what average looking mammaries that woman possesses! I shan't spend my well-earned banknote on that blue-balling drivel!". And I really doubt a lot of gamers seriously want mods like this to be implemented into the game full time. edit - By BioWare in vanilla, I mean.

I have my fetishes.  But, I don't need them to be so prominent in a game, lol.
