How does that mean he wants to bang anything with two legs?

Also, his name is Fergus.

I think the argument about how female body image is
represented in the media is a fair argument, but to dismiss the idea that men
are also misrepresented would be hypocritical.

When they make a male PC who is so stick thin at his waist and legs, and so huge in his chest, that if he realistically tried to do more than stand around he would fall over, then we can talk about how male models in games are so terrible.

As I said in the other thread, as people keep saying ad nauseum, the issue is not that the female model is sexualized/ idealized.  It's that in so doing, she becomes a complete joke in terms of being able to run and fight like the PC and follower NPCs should.

That is men for you!!!!

(Hopes the_one saw that)

But on topic, I heard Aveline looks more warrior like with buff arms and such. So maybe not all models are designed for sheer smeckisness.

What I'm saying is that the men are making the men look good--to them. It works out that it looks good to women as well.

Right, but I disagree. It's not that I don't get your argument. It's that I don't think it's as simple as men making men they think look good.

And the women are made to look good to them, as well, rather than appealing to both men and women. I mean, can you say that Morrigan wasn't meant to be eye candy? Even Miranda is pretty proportionate--she simply wears very tight clothes and certainly is very curvaceous, but she's not at the extreme proportions of Isabela or Bethany. There's a medium here, and it can be reached.

Oh, I agree. Morrigan was eye-candy. And Isabella in DA:O was basically a sexual fantasy chanelling the most uncomfortable aspects of the Witcher. I absolutely agree with you on the portrayal of women in the game. That's not what I have an issue with.

I only have two points: (1) these images of men - they suck. They hurt my self-esteem very bad as a young high school student. They still do now, because no matter what I do, I will always be short. It is as physically impossible for me to meet the male standard of beauty as it is for most women to meet these insane proportions.  (2) The issue is not just hive-mind men creating the beefcake Adonis because that is their ideal.

To give you an idea of me as a person - I have never been able to play Gears of War or God of War because that testosterone filled monster is so offputting to me that I cannot even relate to it as a hero. I don't see it as "awesome" or "badass" as much as I see it as a little creepy. So maybe I'm just out to lunch on the standards of my gender, I don't know.

Given that the companions have a unique look, you could have a curvy and sexy Isabela and a muscular and sexy Aveline. The reason we don't get body types for the PC is because they can wear a ton of different outfits.

I don't care how unrealistic Isabela's body is, I rather like it. Can't wait to see the new desire demon.

But my Hawke wears massive plate mail and swings a sword the size of a grown man. I don't want her to have Isabela's stance.

On topic, it might not be the case that Isabella has the default female mesh. It depends on whether or not the companions use the species mesh or get a unique one. How was that handled in ME2?

I am totally okay with secksy models on women and idealized female body types, so long as I can get me some of that idealized and fetish-wearing men strange to zoom in on. Equality at its finest compromise, no?

My issue with female portrayals in terms of body shapes and attire is that it usually equates to women's bewbs being large, their waists being ridiculously and unhealthily tiny, and their outfits having less material than a paper towl to cover their sensibilities with. Meanwhile, all the men -- whether they are beefcake or not -- run around in full practical armor from head to toe, and look competent on the battlefield for showing up with actual armor on. A dude showing some hint of chest is really not the same. At all.

Now, if the men would just lose most of their attire as well, have some jaunty hip action walk/run animations, and be handsome'd up about tenfold more than they tend to be in games/DA2, then we may start coasting along more equal exploitative lines. I know I'd be happy with it. As I always say, I am all for exploiting both sexes as a better solution than both sexes covering up. Then, at least everyone would know it is equal opportunity fantasy rather than simply a man's fantasy.

In ME2 every character had a unique body model. I find that method to be ideal.

Only if there is a woman that looks like a body builder. Like I said in the rest of my post, it is more so about our culture than purposley doing so.

Would you feel differently if the women characters had a strength cap in the game? Or how about men having a dexerity cap?

-btw...not saying that a large chest is a plus.

Yes clearly what is needed in DA2 is more male objectification.

I really wonder what female Bioware employees think of all this. I mean, the devs tend to avoid these topics like the plague but still. I'm curious.

Well...in the vid dude's Hawke's hips swayed much to my displeasure so maybe we'll have some conan outfits?
