To be fair, I will never go into a Varric chest hair fan thread and express that I do find him awesome but do not find him mancandyworthy. However, when the first female character intro is a smecksy buxom pirate wench, I am reminding Bioware that they owe us something more eyelicious.

I think we all need to go watch some Mean Girls and come back when we've calmed the **** down.

You're in the wrong party. The shouting was going on about 4 pages back. The only thing getting flung here now is some rather awkward humor...

Really, I'm just advocating for people to watch more Mean Girls

It was an excellent movie.

Err. I mean.. should've had more Clint Eastwood! And Bruce Willis!

I enjoy Westerns!

I'm more likely to be offended by female characters' personalities falling into certain stereotypes.

Hmmm...yes, stereotypical personalities can be a lot more annoying and shallow compared to looks.

Well the fact that a lot of us have been saying pretty much exactly what is in the second quote since about the time the images if characters first started coming out is what has me so thoroughly baffled about the intended humor in the first quote.

What do you have against talking cod pieces?!!!

I can't think of a single person who loves rpgs who would object to this! Men, or women!

Well I dunno. It sounds good at face value. But I also got sick of Sandal pretty quickly....

So the answer to having forced bodies on us is to gimp our stats? :/

Now if we picked said body choice and recieved gimped stats in return I could understand. But...we didn't. The devs did.

Well that would be the realistic thing to do. As a side note, I think that body type choice was more attributed to what race you chose to be.

Again, im not against different body shapes, I just don't see how an argument can be made of it being more realistic, when there are other problems with realism.

To be perfectly honest I probably would not be satisfied with only Varric as "Female Hawke's counterpart" if he were A. romanceable and B. the only romance for females in the game.

But there's no way this game is getting released without at least one human male for FemHawke to romance so there's no point fearing that sort of absence.

But women do exist in real life. And, in real life, those proportions are highly unrealistic and detract from the setting. DA was rooted in reality, the nature of that makes it grounding. It's more compelling because the fantastic elements are off-set by the realistic part.

This may not hurt your immersion, but it hurts mine. I said this: I see it and feel marginalized as a gamer. I see it and feel like my female characters are being undermined.

I can appreciate this feeling. It's how I feel about the tall, muscular male meshes. It doesn't matter how or why these come about at this point. I just want to convey that not looking like that, and knowing I can't look like that, doesn't exactly fill me with awesomeness and doesn't make me relate all that strongly to my PC.

My opinion of you continues to increase!  Because, you know, you like Westerns and spit glass.  That's so fetch.

Not really. Body choice was pretty much the same across the board. All female elves were identical in body, female humans, so on and so forth. There was no choice.

My beef is more with characters like Female Hawke and her mom also having ginormous breasts, and the fact that DA did not seem like a plate thong kinda game to me. Though I will admit to sometimes enjoying slaying things in plate thongs and/or painted-on catsuity things. >_>

Honestly, I cannot tell what size Lady Hawke's breasts are. I tend to play her during testing and she is always covered to the neck with huge layers of armor and padding. She could be a double A, or a triple G for all I know. Okay, maybe not that last one.

And I have to agree with the above.

Its stuff like that that causes me to play male characters. Which is not cool.

Though yay! FemHawke's boobs are covered by her armor!

Though...what if I want to play a mage? :(

And also look at FemHawke. She is not some idealized playboy centrefold. She has strong features, a decisive look about her. She looks more a hero than Jerry does.

Did you see how puny elfs were? How does it make any sense that they can be as strong as a fully grown human, or even have equal strength stats to the beast that is Sten.

To me they looked big because of how far the outermost layer of her armor is from where her actual torso would be (compare to Male Hawke in the same armor, there's less of a gap there to my eye). The impression I get is that they're Bethany sized, but it's a little reassuring to hear that.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. The game has zero realism. There is no realism. It's all just within peoples ability to suspend disbelief because nothing about it is at all realistic in the slightest.

Not criticisms. Realism is over rated.

Which may have been a design desicion when cutting corners: If you want to play as a petite character choose a elf, if you want to play as a regular character choose a human, if you want to play as a short character pick a dwarf.

Okay, I am against stat restrictions for women and against sexualizing all the women in a game.

And it has nothing to do with realism, it has to do with identification. I'm female and I don't plug into my power fantasies to learn that my character can never be as strong as a dude. Nor do I plug into them to play a PC that's purely sexualized or run around in a setting where all the women function as eye-candy.

And that's not to say that no woman should be eye-candy. If Dragon Age II has a character that looks like Triss from the Witcher, I'd be fine with it. Nothing wrong with desire demons or side boob or a lady of the forest.

I haven't seen any pictures of Lady Hawke. Does she also have a bit of nutella on her face?

Sure, from the neck up. I have no problems whatsoever with how her face and hair look. In fact, I love it.

Oh god yeah. 2Hander elves made me facepalm. But since the only 2 elves you had in the party were the PC and Zevran (who couldn't properly use 2HD weapons anyways) I didn't see it as that big a deal. If you wanted to go ahead and make your little elf a secret hulk you were free to do so.
