Lol i remember when they said "Dragon Age origins = Baldurs gate 2 spiritual successor"
Then they failed so hard ...
Now they moved over to Mass Effect... Well atleast they wont have to keep the standards as high then.
in short: i wished Bioware would take the game forward... Instead they take steps backwards...
*Less strategy in battles
*Conversation wheel (i want to know what MY character will say)
*Less choices on looks, stats, skills...
*The game will be shorter...
Oh well... Atleast we will get DLC (BLERGH).
Sure the game will be "GOOD" and it will sell like water on a hot day. But its in no where near the spiritual successor of BG. I guess that is why they moved over to Spiritual successor of Mass Effect.
Every time Bioware say anything about the game i get more disappointed. But then again they are trying sell the game to more people where the "bling" is the important thing

Well a majority is more than 50% right?
I have no hard evidence but this poll with more than a thousand votes is kind of more on the "armor please!" side of the spectrum. http://social.biowar...832/polls/1803/
It's axiomatic that the way you phrase a question changes the outcome of a poll. I followed that link thinking, "Well, I liked having unique companion outfits," but that wasn't the question posed by the poll. The bottom option, "I'd rather my NPCs wore armor," is not the same as "I want to dress my companions in the gear I find from drops." See, I would have preferred Jack, for example, to put some armor on (or clothes even), but I was glad they got rid of ME1's inventory and gear system.
To put it more simply, the poll you linked conflates two separate questions. It's as if the poll had these options:
1. I like vanilla ice cream better.
2. I'd rather have apple pie for dessert.
Can't I have both? They *can* go together, and it's delicious.

I'm glad you aren't on the game design team then. I like the Fade and Orzammar.
They are both nice and add atmosphere and background to the world, though it does get tedious after multiple character run-throughs. The first two times playing I didn't mind much. The third run was a little boring. The forth run was fun again. I'm a lore hound, I enjoy reading it all and each party also had different NPCs in it, which spiced up some of the reactions to the game events. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

"Change is coming in DA2. Some fear change and will fight it with every fibre of their being. But sometimes, change is what they need most. Sometimes, change is what sets them free."

In other words I loved Mass Effect 2 as an action game, even if I wish it was more like Deus Ex or other RPGs. I can like both.

Its not like they're trying to make a bad game. But BioWare isn't magic. **** happens- they're as liable to make a crap game as anyone else.
The only Bioware game I've played since BG which I didn't like was NWN 1, and I've played all of the ones available on or ported to the PC.
Which is to say, they could make a crap gain, but I'd be awfull surprised if they did. Now, of course, quality varies, but leaving aside NWN (which plenty of other folks loved) I've never not really enjoyed a Bioware game, never not played it for more than one playthrough.

The fade was one of my favorite parts the first time, I loved the puzzle aspect and the shapechanging. It felt like a real challenge. I hated it by the 3rd time I did it, but most normal players won't do it that many times. I liked Orzammar, it felt very epic to me, and the lead up to the Broodmother was the creepiest, nastiest part of the game and really drove home just how evil and disgusting the Darkspawn are.

I have greatly enjoyed every Bioware game I have played, and I think that it is completely unfair that there are people complaining that this game will be awful because of changes being made, when the same people were screaming that DAO was going to be awfull because it wasnt exactly like Baldurs Gate.

No. You just made that up. Some may be. Some loved Baldur's Gate. And some, like me, never played it. Argue aganst people's feelings if you will, but don't just make stuff up.triggerhappy456 wrote...
I support most of the changes that they have made, and the ones I don't agree with are probably also going to make the game better. The Voice Actor will make the game more enjoyable, and the two problems I had with DAO were the slow combat and dull visuala, which are obviouly being improved.

Just break these long periods with some nice companion dialogue or some story reveal or something. If Kirkwall is really as big as they say it is, it would be cool if we slowly gained full access to the city. For example, at the start we can only go to the docks and the customs district or something, because we are refugees. Later, as you build up a reputation, you can enter the merchant district, and then the aristocrat district, etc...
New Vegas is the perfect example of bad dialogue/story pacing in my book. When I entered the Strip, I literally had to trudge through over an hour of load screens and two hours of dialogue just to make sure I didn't miss an NPC. The city was cool, but it was way too dominating, I didn't know where to start, 20 people we're asking me to do 20 different things, some in my notebook, some in the quest book; it was just like a bee hive with massive loading screens.

Uh, just what I said. That the people complaining are the same ones who complained that DA:O wasn't exactly like Baldur's Gate. I really can't say it another way. That was pretty basic. Some people now complaining may be the same ones, but others never played it, or didn't care. A lot of people liked Origins for what it was, a great game, with tons of player control over their roleplay.aaniadyen wrote...

To state my CURRENT opinion on BG 1:
Perma death is stupid.
If I swap members of my party, they'll get away and never come back. I can't simply tell'em to wait in the inn. They will insult me and leave me forever.
As I play, I'll update my opinions about this game. I REALLY want to know what made Baldur's gate so praized even today.
Now on topic, from what I've seen on trailers and interviews about DA2, I'm supporting the changes, that's for sure.

Orzammar/deep roads didn't need to be shorter, but it could have used an event that broke things up in some way. At the same time, it added to the feeling of the situation being real and pretty dire that it was difficult to leave, and very difficult to get through the whole thing in one go if you weren't well prepared. It's the deep roads, it's supposed to be a tough slog. Again, I found it great for roleplay.

There is only one problem, however. Hardcore RPGs are slowly dying. Almost every game has some sort of primitive RPG elements, and the few games that advertise themselves are RPGs are in fact, action-RPGs. Again, I am not saying I don't like this genre (instead I find it interesting, even more so if done right). I simply wanted BioWare to keep old-school RPGs alive.
Having said that, I am not a blind morron. I know that most gamers nowdays want something entertaininig and simple, in order to escape from their everyday lives and relax, and every company that wants to be succesfull is forced to appeal to them. At the very least, marketing has to be attractive to them, and the game should also not make players think before doing anything. Indeed, I believe that BioWare is a good example of what I said above ,maintaining a fine balance in a way most of their games can be played casualy, although there are tons of extra depth for some of us.
I could go on writing for ages but I have neither the time nor do I wish to do so...I would also like to note that's just my point of view and I don't intend to offend anyone. Feel free to comment

Minor qualms aside, I am planning to pre-order when I have the funds and anxiously await the release.
