The term does not, and never did, have anything to do with wearing a buckler.

Incorrect. The term is indeed derived from their usage of a buckler. The term has, however, since come be a collective term for any boisterous and/or vainglorious swordsman.

That's because swashbucklers swash at bucklers worn by other people.

This is the most awesome answer ever.  After reading it, I thought, "I now have absolutely no need to read the rest o this thread."

This is a really important question for me & I haven't got any reasonable explanation & would like a Dev to comment on this issue please

http://dictionary.re...er]Swashbuckler[/url]: a swaggering swordsman, soldier, or adventurer; daredevil.

The term does not, and never did, have anything to do with wearing a buckler.

Swashbuckler: The original sense seems to have been "one who makes menacing noises by striking his or an opponent's shield."

Not that I have any issue with Isabela not being able to wield a shield. If someone ever forces the forums to divide, I'm on the devs' side, all the way. Just pointing out the word DID in fact have something to do with wearing a buckler :P
