Did you know that Mass Effect is based on japanese history? The battles that takes place in Mass Effect actually took place in ancient Japan.
Funny, after seeing that boss, I thought it took place in a Final Fantasy universe

Actually, they do attack, just not many of them. I never noticed them until my last playthrough, I was so concentrated on killing the terminator.Sajuro wrote...
I think that it would have been better if the collectors continued to attack you as you fought the reaper fetus.
Of course, how could one forget the battle of the machine fetus that marked a turning point in one of the revolutions during the Meiji Era.Marzillius wrote...

None of this really matters to me. In my mind Shepard never fought the reaper-larvae - he fought off several waves of Collectors instead.
I find the concept of destroying a giant machine with armor equivalent to an Alliance cruiser with small-arms fire incredibly unrealistic for my tastes.

After the initial "holy crap" when the thing popped up it was all too boring and easy it had a repetative easy pattern and tons of weak spots to shoot at. Sure it looked creepy but looks arent what a boss is about especially a final battle it should be challanging. Even on higher levels it's not really all that difficult. Saren in the first game in his super sovereign form was a tougher battle but even that was east to cheat by spamming lift though it's still quite tough to take down at harder levels compared to the Reaper lavre
Though if the latest DLC is a preview of boss battles to come we might actually get some decent ones in ME 3

Even the difficulty of the boss aside, just the look of it was lame. The very fact that we had to fight a giant robot was stupid. It was just so...video-gamey.
Give me the Collector-General. Give me waves of Collectors. Give me a timed run to the Normandy. Heck, give me indoctrinated colonists (how would that be for dark?) Just not a giant robot with lasers and a convenient infinite-ammo mechanic for Shepard.

Or if you knocked the reaper larva down to 10% health... "ASSUMING CONTROL" and now you have a boss fight against a giant Harbinger.

Ahem, I didn't say it was a good idea.
I rather liked the final boss, though I think the DLC "bosses" were a bit more entertaining to fight. Some required different strategies, one (Overlord) had the story woven into the fight.

Definitely not a good idea. I get Harby-spammed enough.
The DLC bosses are amazing, definitely. I'm glad Bioware finally figured out how to pull it off. A few months too late for the original release, but it made for good times and set my hopes high for ME3. Baby Terminator? The design did not impress me, nor did the difficulty, but the way it swung and moved around was pretty awesome. It wasn't an overall bad experience, but they had it in them to do better.
Of course, without all the fans fussing over the lackluster final battle, the developers may not have made such an effort to learn how to design epic boss fights.

Why can't Bioware make a good final boss anymore?
Jade Empire: The final boss was kind of epic, being that you are fighting the only person who is on the same level as you, being able to use focus.
Mass Effect: Saren-husk was also a good battle simply because it was so frantic.
Mass Effect 2: The Reaper Fetus never proved as much of a challenge as the collector onslaught during the first part, and I think that it would have been better if the collectors continued to attack you as you fought the reaper fetus.
