Hi chaps,

I'm doing a final Mass Effect playthrough on the 360 to pick up the last ally achievements and the level 60 achievement.  I've done Therum and all of the Citadel side-quests and I'm up to level 56 (started on ~54 I think).

Now I really can't be arsed to spend hours riding the Mako up cliffs to get at the minerals and Turian insignias, especially when they seem to only give me 256 exp each time.

Does this go up over time, as if not it doesn't seem like it's worth the effort when you can get that much experience from downing the average foe?

Level 56 > 60 requires lots of XP; a couple of side missions won't get you there. I'm afraid you'll have to do another playthrough with the same character to get to level 60, the main missions should suffice.

As the OP says "started at ~54", I take this to be his second playthrough with this character. In which case I'd say check again before you do the last plot world. If you're about mid-way through 58 or higher, I'd say you're fine just proceeding with the plot. The gap between levels 59 and 60 is about as much experience as the past 5 levels together.

I've blown up Sovereign fourteen times. I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about. ^_^

To get to level 54 you'll need 330,100 XP (from scratch); to get from level 54 to 60 requires (862,100 - 330,100 =) 532,000 XP

It requires some hard work to get all the way to level 60. It's been a while since I played ME1, but I had to complete the game (plus most side quest) trice to reach level 60.

Same here. And I still didn't manage to find any better armor than a medium Colossus IX for my soldier.

Edit: Forgot to actually chime in on the thread. I'm a completionist, meaning that I cannot in good conscience start the Virmire section of ME1 before I have completed every quest in my journal that isn't plot related. Which includes all of the collecting and UNC missions. One thing that I find helpful is to use the Mass Effect Wiki to look up planet maps so you don't have to search for things. With a good idea of where everything is, I can usually clear a super rocky (or poorly designed) Mako map in 10-15 minutes. Less time for the better maps.

It takes about 200,000 XP to get from fifty-nine to sixty alone, as I recall. I know it took me a whole new playthrough just for that last level. I hit the cap on my last story mission before Ilos.

Cheers everyone.

I was prepared for another playthrough to hit 60, I'm just really bored with climbing mountains! I need to do an all side quests playthrough to get the ally achievement for Liara and Ashley (I have the rest), so I think I'll burn through doing all side quests but not bother with the minerals, Turian insigna and Salarian ID quests, and then bomb through another main quest playthrough to see if I can hit 60.

Wasn't that you get more XP on higher difficulty? I don't remember doing more than two playthroughs with one of my chars, but he's level 60 already and I did both on Insanity.

I just did three playthroughs overall to get to level 60. On my second character, I took advantage of the Laser Mine glitch and got to level 56 on my first run. My best suggestion is just to do another playthrough.

The ally achievements were really easy to get. You don't need to beat any of the collection quests. Just pick up every quest that NPCs give you.

well considering you can only get 2 at a time, with 6 characters, and they don't always trigger....

add to that the various time spent getting the mastery achievements, and i'd played close to 300 hours.

So've I, although it isn't necessary to spend 300 hours to get every achievement.
Playing through the game three times isn't too tough. The only tough part is knowing how many assignments you need to complete. The wiki has that. That's how I did it myself.

Once you unlock lvl 60, you CAN take a lvl 1 character all the way to lvl 60. Just do all the side-missions. ALL of them. Also, try getting that Millionare credits achievement. You'll knock 2 birds with 1 stone that way.

Isn't that the worst?  I'd do some hateful mission in the name of an ally achievement only to have the quest finish with me on the ship, alone.

I just completed an ME1 playthrough. Started at 53, capped at 60 on Virmire. (charm/paragon engineer on hardcore but not sure that matters) Completed all side quests including DLC, never exited Maco for killing. And even though I completed the collection quests, I didn't actively pursue them. By that I mean I did not go out exploring each planet collecting all nodes, I simply collected what was near quest objectives and planet scans. I left a lot of minerals on planets. So if I can do it from 53, you can do it from 54.

No.  Unless you've personally managed to do that, I've never seen that happen.  I can see getting to 58 or 59 if you don't kill anything in the Mako, open every box, do every quest, resolve stuff with violence for experience, etc, whenever possible...but you won't hit 60.  I normally wind up at 55-57 without trying for maximum experience.

lvl 60 in one play through would mean cheating with an exp glitch.

I've tried to get to 60 a few times and barely got to lvl. 58 with all of the extra exp % from other achievements and with out glitches. I even took out all thresher maws, colossus and missile turrets on foot and barely got 58 right before facing saren and sovereign at the very end.

So I guess mathematically impossible.
