Hi all.

I have a quick question. At the end of the original campaign I slew the Archdemon which saw the end of my main character. When I choose to start Awakening I can create a new hero or import my hero from the original campaign. I know that if I use my original hero, the events and items from the original campaign are brought over to Awakenings. My problem though is how can my original hero begin in awakenings when he died at the end of the original. Does anyone have any advice or information? I'm very anal when I start a game like this. I don't want to screw up the storyline or such as that would make me lose interest in the entire game world and I'd end up just putting the game on some shelf never to use it again. Hell, I still feel horrible with how I handled Alistair at the end. He left us and vowed to NEVER return. It still bothers me all these days later. I wanted to go back and restart just before he left and change my choices, but then it would kill the game for me. I liked Alistair best, but what is done is done. :( I hope he returns someday in my gameplay.

So, if anyone can tell me whether a new hero is the right path or importing my original (dead) hero to Awakenings is better for the proper continuation of the gameworld. From what I read, if I start a new hero the game picks a generic ending to the original campaign. That would suck! I prefer to be able to have the game continue and use the events and outcomes from my play in the original campaign, but at the same time, how can my hero come back to play in Awakenings when he died at the end of the original campaign? Please help me.

Thanks,
John

I think David Gaider said something along the lines of, if you can ignore the fact your character was supposed to have died, then the game will too, or something. It'll just assume you or Alistair or someone else did the Dark Ritual.

I suggest just starting as an Orlesian Warden. I thought it would be meh, but my brother did it and it was actually pretty fun, plus you get a new background.

The only thing I wish i could have done was import my decisions for my Warden that died. I don't think there is a way to do that though.

I ended up using my Warden that did the dark ritual.

i'd also suggest just playing as an orlesian. it sucks that you can't import your dead warden's choices without retconning your DA:O ending, but awakenings provides plenty of new choices to make and by the end i was more than satisfied with my orlesian warden's adventure.

I actually enjoyed playing Awakening as an Orlesian warden more than when I played as my Origins wardens. With my wardens from Origins I spent a lot of time comparing the two and adjusting to the absence of my favorite companions. It felt almost lonely at times. At least with the Orlesian warden it was easier to start fresh and appreciate Awakening for what is.

Apparently in WH there is a slight difference in the dialogue that you can get if you import a Warden who should have died from US.  So the game still registers that choice, but you're left on your own when it comes to devising an explanation for why the warden is not dead. I suppose you could always think of it as a miracle from the Maker. xP

I feel exactly the same way about Awakening with an Orlesian. I've played Awakening four times (I also have a fifth run in progress), three with Orlesians and one with my imported Warden. I hated playing with my imported Warden. It felt lonely and truth to be told, inappropriate for her character (she wouldn't have wanted to be Warden Commander). With my Orlesians on the other hand, it was like a fresh start and it was easy to make them fit into the role of Warden Commander.

There's also the fact that playing with an imported Warden is WAY too easy.

Thanks to everyone who posted. I guess I'll play with the new Warden, although I can't believe Bioware didn't take into consideration that there was a GREAT possibility that the main hero would make the "Ultimate Sacrifce" at the end of the original campaign and that if there was going to be (and yes they knew there would be!) add-ons and other campaigns for the game later on, that they didn't incorporate the ability to start new, but use the history and events from the original campaign hero. I mean how hard could it be? It does it if you import the hero right? Why not have an option "Import Events/History ONLY" and have the program do that, then create your character. Oh, well I'll try with a new character, but if the game gets a out of hand with a generic history that contradicts alot of what actually happened during my play I'll just put the game away and wait for DA:2 to come out and start new with that game.

Thanks Again,
John

I am the opposite I prefer importing my characters from origins to awakeing. To me it is alot better. That and none of my warden's died simply for the reason I immediatly agree with morrigan's plan to save my warden's and I don't regret my decision except for my warden's are all worried that they are going to lose leliana because of that, though I hope I can convince her to forgive and forget and stay with my warden's.

You know, I see this phrase thrown around a lot and I don't think people realize how belittling it is. I would imagine that creating a game like Dragon Age from scratch is incredibly hard, what with the technical aspects coupled with a rather unfeasibly short deadline. Given the amount of work that went into DA:O and the number of irritating bugs that still remain, I'd say it would be incredibly hard.
