Herbalism wasn't rubbish at all, neither was Poison making. I loved making new and better gernades or making health potions, especially when I was in a tight spot with no cash OR fricken all of Golems of Amgarrak.

Agreed. I hope alchemy is even deeper in DA2. I love brewing those potions!

Your own preferences aside... isn't those three things the ones that have been Bioware's main selling points in every single title? That without the dialogue, characters and plot Bioware wouldn't be where they are? That it's just that people actually expect and look for in their games?

Thiey might be what Bioware tries to sell them as. But they are nowhere near "masterpiece". So saying: "It's OK that they've cut all that stuff, they have story and characters to compensate", - would be an overstatement.
Bioware makes decent-to-good games. That's all there is to it.

A masterpaice is an extremely difficult thing to come by in any medium. I still believe the last real masterpience in gaming was Zelda: Ocarina of Time. There have been a lot of very good games since then though. ME1, ME2, DA:O are among them.

It seems unlikely that DA2 actually has significantly less loot. Looking at the screencap of the inventory, Hawke has space for 90+ items at level 2. That's actually more space than what we started with in Origins. Why would they increase our inventory size if they're dramatically decreasing the amount of loot?

It could be that running out of inventory space was deemed unfun by the same people who deemed many DAo's animations slow, party member clothing changes bad and many other DAo's features unfun.. so they got changed.  In this case bigger inventory.
Or it is a developer build, they can pretty much debug anything they want then take a screenshot of it. So doesn't necessarily mean you and I will have the same exact look when we play a few months from now. I think the less loot arguement has merit and It will prob be the case.

I don't know what I'd think of the merchant who would buy "bits of monster."

I liked how I could take a werewolf pelt off of Danyla. Should have given that to her husband instead of the scarf, see what he thought of that.

I don't see an argument though, just speculation. The OP jumps from "companions don't have an inventory," which isn't even true, to "fights will probably be just like ME2" and "loot is probably pretty much disappearing as well."

The supposition isn't even based on an accurate understanding of what we *do* know. I'm not saying they won't change or haven't changed the way loot is handled, but I am saying such speculation has to explain away facts in evidence (the screenshots of the actual inventory). You're saying the argument has merits, but I don't see an argument--just a guess.

Even worse if you sold them poison or ingredients that combine to make poisons.

Well FF12, is the only JRPG I can come close to liking, DA2 shares some aspects of the game, (unique unchangeable companion wardrobe is one) & it's loot system is nice in that you get monster bits from monsters & junk items form humanoids. But you know that it is useless junk

I do NOT want to debate JRPG's/RPG's I am just referencing this game for it's loot

Soteria.. to be honest I dont care to read all the posts so I could be way off or whatever. I guess I was just more stating that it is my guess, based on what I know, that we will have less loot and inventory then DAo. Wether that is good, bad or you dont care, thats your thing.

Neither did I. I read the first post, though.

Point 2: Don't you dare bring up Planescape. It might have somewhat similar system around companions equipment, but it's main features were dialogues, characters and plot. Something Avellone does way better than anyone in Bioware can. "What's allowed to Jupiter is not allowed to a bull".

I don't know. Avellone is very formulaic. His first departure from real PS:T was Alpha Protocol. Mask of the Betrayer and KoTOR 2 were largely his themes in a different setting. And even Alpha Protocol was thematically similar to his previous work. He has a complicated take on morality, what it means to be heroic, and is generally good at forcing false dillema choices, but he retreads often.

I don't want to give away Fallout New Vegas spoilers, but one of the plotlines regarding a major character could even be characterized as a bait and switch false dilemma. And one that cheapened the value of following a particular path.

Oh... its so sad... I will really miss having 3 rogues looking absolutely the same just with other colors... or all heavy armors just having different skins... or medium armors... or all weapons just changing color for different materials... it was so much quality in that mass of equipment.

Pretty much anytime someone brings up PS:T or Deus Ex as an example I almost automatically disregard the rest of what they say.

ALMOST automatically, as I try to still give it a chance.

But anyone who praises PS:T up and down as the best cRPG pretty clearly have a very different opinion on cRPGs than I do, so we likely are not to agree.

I don't consider Deus Ex a traditional RPG.  It's the best action RPG I've ever played.  And I only consider twitch games for the label "action RPG."

What exactly is the problem with those games?  Feel free to respond only to the Deus Ex example, I didn't play PS:T.

I hear dues ex simply doesn't run on multicore systems. Otherwise, I'd love to try it out.

PS:T was a bad game but a good RPG, that's my take on it. It was also a very love it or hate it game, based on whether or not you bought the hook. As it turns out I never did, but I did appreciate the quality of the writing and the self-discovery aspect of the story. I just didn't actually like the story.
