PS3 Exclusive Content Clarification

This thread is about the PS3 port of ME2.
This thread isn't really about the industry's use of exclusive content in general. You are more than welcome to use the Off Topic Forum for that.
This thread isn't about platform wars. Whether you own a PC, XBox 360, PS3, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, discussing one's superiority over another is just feeding the flames and is not welcome on these forums. But the Atari 2600 ruled.
This thread isn't about the discussion of ME2 or ME1. Really, there are forums actually labled "Campaign Quests and Storylines" for these discussion.
You are to avoid insults. At all times. Across all the forums. By command of the Site Rules.
And because people lose track of this very easy: this thread is about the PS3 port of ME2.

So, you're making all the previously released DLC free on PS3? But the DLC will stay the same price on PC and xbox? Sure is biased. They should make it free on PC and Xbox, to be fair to new comers on all platforms. Or you know you could just spit in the face of your previous demo as you move on to a new one. Also, if you say I'm saying this just because I want it for free, I already have all the DLC. Minus the Costume pack.
But...but...the DLC they are getting isn't free

Right, they're just paying the same price we paid for the game and getting the DLC we paid extra for included. But they are not getting it for free.

The fact that they're getting ME2 a year later means that I'm okay they're getting DLC, and the comic, bundled in. After all, Bioware is asking for $60 for a year old game. They need to soften the deal somehow.

Looks like you contradicted yourself Slidell505. In your first post you're saying Bioware is making all the DLC for ME2 become free on the PS3 version of ME2 and calling them "biased". But when mrsph is saying PS3 ME2 owners won't get the DLC for free, you agree with his statement and say PS3 owners are not getting the DLC for free. So didn't you just contradict yourself Slidell505?

I wish people would stop using NG sigma as an example. We do not know what the exclusivity terms are surrounding Mass Effect 1 on the 360. Now since Bioware have opted to skip ME 1 on PS3 and do a comic + ME 2 I think it is safe to say there are contractual reasons why Bioware have gone down this route.
Now you can go "change the name", "change the game a bit", "put elf and fairies in place of Krogans and Hanars" don't you think Bioware would have thought of these ideas ? They clearly cannot bring Mass Effect 1 to the PS3 for contractual reasons. If there was a way to do it then I think we can confidently say Bioware would have done it, but they can't for contractual reasons.

No they wouldn't have. It's not economically viable to do so as NGSigma shows. The sales were poor. Them not doing it doesn't mean they can't. But rather that its not economically viable. They would have to put in 20% more content in a...2...or is it 3? Year old game. They would have to revamp the graphics, revamp the combat system among other things.
It's not a question of desire but profitability.
But regardless of don't expect ME2 to do all that great sales wise. ME3 on the PS3 on the other hand should do quite well.

NGSigma was made on a whole ne engine. I don't believe Bioware will spend the time or money to convert ME1, with its barren planets, into a new engine. Especially since Current ME2 fans would cause a ****storm far larger than the unreasonable need to greedily and lazily want the Comic too.
True. Gah.
All of this could've been avoided if BW wasn't so fast to hop into bed with Microsoft. >_>

I agree with this. I think that the bundle for the PS3 should be priced based on the same elements bought for the PC or 360 at the time that the PS3 version goes on sale, and there should be a little discount on top of that to encourage PS3 owners to buy the game.
I remain completely opposed to platform exclusives, but I do think a little bit of a discount is the least that EA can do to say to the PS3 crowd "Hey, man... sorry it took us a year to support your platform with our game."
I also think that if the ME1 publishing rights haven't reverted back to BioWare/EA yet, or will not soon, EA needs to make sure they get those in plenty of time for the 3 game packs that you know will be coming out after the ME3 GotY edition.

You expect them to pay full price for a year old game and spend all the money on the DLC? That is nearly 90 dollars!

And ? They're still paying for the game either way , it isn't free... besides what do you get out of it ? You and everyone else who bought the DLC have already paid for it, if you paid for it it's because you found the price just for the content you bought, that's all there is to it, it's not like you'd get any money back if the PS3 users had to pay full price for a year old port and then pay the rest for the DLC and it's not like anyone is stealing money from your pocket, you just sound like someone petty and with a false sense of entitlement

Look at it this way;
PS3 owners don't have the option not to buy the DLC, they have to buy it along with the main game, at a cost greater than it would cost on 360 or pc. So on pc/360 you can either pay $10 for just the main game, or you can pay $40-50 for the main game and the DLC. PS3 owners will only have the option of paying $60 for the game and DLC.
So yes, I would say it isn't fair to the PS3 owners, only having the most expensive option when pc/360 can choose what they want and pay far less.
Still the world isn't fair.

It will be very interesting to see what happens in a couple of months time when the PS3 version drops in price. At the moment the PC/360 version of Mass Effect 2 + the cost of the DLC brings the game up to the same price as the PS3 version (at least in my country). If you add the cost of ME 1 onto it, then PC/360 gamers pay a bit more for the whole package. However game prices drop quite rapidly these days so it could well be the case that PC/360 users will end up paying more for Mass Effect 2 than PS3 users a few months from the PS3 release.
I can easily see a situation where 6 months after the PS3 version is released you will be able to buy it for £20 - £30 yet the PC/360 version will still be close to £40 if you buy the DLC.

Jesse Houston: Hey guys, PS3 just gets all the stuff that PC and Xbox already had! No exclusive missions! Just a comic instead of ME1.
Fans: Wtf we see an ambiguous "exclusive" in there! FAN RAGE!
Jesse Houston: No no, there's no exclusive to the console. Just exclusively free stuff.
Selfish fans: Wtf PS3 gets this stuff for free and we had to pay? They get a comic? FAN RAGE!
Calm fans: It's the same price as we can buy it for now, and we got ME1. It's fair.

There's nothing selfish about wanting to experience the comic alongside PS3 players. I'm soooo tired of this.SSV Enterprise wrote...
