We've talked briefly about the Interactive Comic.  BioWare Edmonton (the group that made Mass Effect 2) teamed up with the fine folks at Dark Horse Comics to create an interactive backstory.  While I can't release all the details about this yet, what I can tell you is that we want to create a stunning visual experience that not only tells the core story elements of  Mass Effect 1, but also is fully interactive allowing you to be faced with some of the major choices which will have consequences your Mass Effect universe.  This interactive comic's initial release will be exclusive to PS3 owners who would be otherwise unable to realize the full effect of choice in the Mass Effect universe and will be included on the Cerberus Network.

Dude, I pre-ordered and bought at release the PC collector's edition of your game.  I've bought all your DLC.  I buy, without exception, every game BioWare makes, and I have for several years now.  I consider myself to be a loyal BioWare customer, so I have to tell you this platform exclusive interactive comic is really some bull crap.  If it is a "stunning visual experiece," I want it, and I'm not really interested in wating for 6 months after it is released for some other group of game players on some other platform.

We had to endure that crap with the X Box exclusives for Jade Empire and Mass Effect.  It was bad enough that we had to wait for the PC versions of the game, but what made it worse was that Chris Priestly spent those intervening months insisting that these titles were planned to remain X Box exclusives, and no PC versions were in development... or even considered.  After those stunts, our ability to be amused by your "platform exclusives" is non-existent.

Loyalty is a two-way street.  I'm still annoyed about the whole X Box exclusive thing, and having Priestly lie his butt off to all of us on the forums for months about it.  Platform exclusives are a sore spot, and I don't think you guys really want to pick at it.

Sounds like a fair deal; and the interactive comic seems like a great way to introduce people to the story. :)

I don't get how people can interpret this package as "rewarding" PS3 owners for waiting. I bought ME2 last month for PC; with the DLC added in the PS3 release that cost me around 40€. PS3 users will have to pay their 10€ console bonus on top of that, so that's exactly how it is for almost every other game out there.

I also don't really understand the fuzz about "exclusive" items, it's not like the stuff changes your experience of the game or anything.

How dare a business offer a small incentive to new paying costumers. OOOH, oh no! PS3 owners might get some guns or a helmet that I wants oh so very bad! Bioware is a bunch of jerks! Gimme that comic book!!! I don't care that I have a full game that they'll never have! I'm never going to buy another ME product again. I'm telling my mom because this isn't fair!

And really, even if the PS3 owners get a new gun/piece of armor, is it really that different from the "exclusive" pre-order bonuses that the 360 and PC users got?

Guys, re-read the first post, as Jesse made an edit.

There is no truly exclusive PS3 DLC. Its all repackaged content we were able to get on PC and Xbox 360.

There is no exclusive DLC.

Actually, it does.  This interactive comic seems to offer the possibility to generate a basic ME1 save in a few minutes, which could quite dramatically change your experience of the game.  If you have a hard drive crash, or lose your saved games for any reason, this could make the difference between playing ME2 again or not.  The ability to quickly create a ME1 save with different choices will almost certainly inspire many people to re-play the game, and to buy any new DLC to enjoy while doing so.

It doesn't have to be free.  This added functionality is worth something, and I would pay a few dollars for it.  For it to be completely unavailable, though, is crap.  It's a reminder of the X Box eclusive Mass Effect drama, when those of us who had been playing BioWare games on the PC for a decade got a big "screw you guys" from our buddies in Edmonton.

Like I said before, I really don't think BioWare wants to go out of its way to remind us of that episode.

No, it isn't different.  But... all platform exclusives suck.  Platform freebies are fine, give one DLC pack for free to each platform that the others have to pay for.  To tell any of your players that there is some stuff - whether it is a gun, armor, or a comic - that they cannot get at any price is a steaming load of crap.

Don't see how the original exclusivity of Mass Effect to the XBox 360 is necessarily a screw you considering Microsoft was bankrolling it. Actually, I'm speculating on that. The Commodore 64 would get a superior version of the games, anyway. Wait, what year is this?

Not only does it look like the DLC is going to be fair to everyone - it also looks like we 360/PC users may eventually get the comic too. Here's hoping! Of course, if everything does come bundled in the PS3 version, and the recruitment order is gone, I might pick it up anyway.

There is an exclusive interactive comic that lets you generate a ME1 save.  That's a big deal.

All that means is that Microsoft paid BioWare to screw us.  We still woke up the next morning with carpet burn and ran to the corner store for a preggo test.  And Chris Priestly still pretended like he didn't know us when we saw him at the club the next weekend.

To be honest us PC gamers have the best of both worlds, the save game editor allows us to create and tailor  save games as much as we want (funny we have to rely on the community to do these things) and it allows us to bypass that god awful mining game to boot.

So I can't say I am sweating too much about the interactive comic thingie.  I mean sure it sounds cool and all that but I would much rather use the save game editor to set up my save game files.  I will probably watch the comic on youtube once and that will be it.

Oh and before some clever so and so comes in saying "well 360 users can do it as well" I know they can I am speaking as a PC gamer.

As far as I understood of the post, is that the "exclusive" part is related to ME1. Which is fair, if you look at it objectively. We the owners of ME1 (pc/xbox 360) have played that story and have made the decisions for our play through in ME2, the PS3 owners wont have that option. So they might get something new in ME2 that links the 2 games, which is cool.

At least that is how I understand it (sorry if I got it wrong, English isn't my main language.)

Welcome to the Bioware board, where people will complain about the font size if there's nothing else to complain about.

UGH.

You know what I thought when I heard about this? By far my biggest (and really, the only reasonable) concern about the upcoming PS3 version was that with ME1 unavailable for that platform, and ME3 presumably being cross-platform from the start, you had to wonder if that meant plot points and decisions from ME1 would be completely ignored in ME1 because PS3 users wouldn't have access to it. Now we don't have to worry about this. Clearly, BW are actually going out of their way to make sure everyone will have a save with decisions from ME1 and ME2 that they can build ME3 around. Now see, in my book, this is good news. But you look at this, and all you see is "omg they're getting a tool to quick-create ME1 saves, I want one too."

To which I say, and forgive me for repeating myself:

UGH.

Yes, the comic that is exclusive for its 'initial release'.

Come on guys. Dont be so daft. The comic will come across to other platforms eventually.

Your grunt has failed to persuade me.  I still see no reason to make the interactive comic a platform exclusive.

The fact that no one has played ME1 on the PS3 does not mean that everyone buying it for other platforms has.  You can grunt, groan, and flatulate all you want to, it does not detract at all from the simple truth: Platform Exclusives Suck.

Perhaps if Chris Priestly had not lied about Mass Effect being in development for the PC, I would be more willing to have patience.  When I say lie, I mean blatant, outright, intentional falsehood.  I mean beating his little brass "X Box exclusive" drum a few days before the announcement that the PC version would go on sale about a month later with a completely new UI.

Yeah, maybe I do hold a grudge.  So what?  I'll bet I'm not the only one.

In principle? Sure. In this case? Non-issue. PS3 owners will also never have access to the original Mass Effect, but oddly enough, I don't see you crying about that.
