Hey,

Sorry if this is a really redundant thread, and it probably is but I've followed all the instructions in the other threads where people have my problem but I haven't been able to fix anything.

First of all, my problem is that I get the error message "Mass Effect has stopped working" whenever I try to play the game. At first this error message would come up immeadetely after the launcher, then I disabled the UAC on my PC (which is vista) and this changed it a bit. Now it loads up a black spashscreen and then shows the same error.

I've gone on CanYouRunIt and everything on my laptop checks out except for my grapics card. However, when it analyses the features of my graphics card my card pass the test;
Minimum:
NVIDIA
GeForce 6 series (6800 GT or better), ATI X1300 XT or better (X1550,
X1600 Pro and HD2400 are below minimum system requirements)

You Have:
Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family

(sorry the canyourunit test is a bit messed up, basically my graphics card past the features test but failed the overall test)
Also if it was a graphics card problem, wouldn't it still run but run very poorly? I don't know, but any help would be appreciated, thanks.

CanYouRunIt is not a very good measure of how your system can run a game. A better computer evaluator is the Game-o-meter at www.yougamers.com

That Intel chipset cannot play the game.  Intel integrated graphics are terrible. You will need to buy a real graphics card, made by either ATI or nVidia, in order to be able to play the game.

However...judging by the name "Mobile" on the chipset, you are playing on a laptop, correct? Then you will need to get a whole new computer with a good graphics card in order to play the game. Laptop graphics can't be upgraded.

Yeah I know, only bought the game for £6, not too bothered. I'm not going to buy a computer for it. I had a similar experience with Neverwinter Nights 2, but the game still played but I had to use low graphics settings. I've already got a PS3 I think I'm just going to buy ME2 when it comes out and forget about the playing the first one.
