are you serious, this sucks. you can't start a new game with your high level character

And, you expected to be able to... why?

This is priceless. People are complaining that DAII is too much like Origins.

or maybe they think it's a mass effectication done poorly.

IMO, developers don't add New Game + features because of Achievements/Trophies.

@Flybread76

Batman: Arkham City has 2-3 achievements that require NG+.

Also, DAII has an achievement that is obtained by beating the game twice (if you don't have an Origins save file).

i.e. I fail to see your point.

You've named only two games.  And there are many people (at least in my exprience) who do not like NG+ and see it as cheating (or not being faithfull to how a game is "supposed" to be played during the first run.  I'm not kidding.)  I personally like NG+ features but many of my favorite games don't have that option.

On PC, you could probably cheat yourself up to a high level. I guess you'd be limited to randomly generated loot - or stuff with the levelling property, but I can't see any reason it wouldn't work.

Lol. I didn't realize I had to compile a whole list to make a counterpoint.

But if I'm going to seriously entertain this argument... Okay. Here goes.

1) The topic is asking why DAII doesn't have a NG+ offered. DAII has an achievement earned by beating the game twice. Offering NG+ would offer greater incentive for playing through again and earning said achievement. (And your argument was that achievements got in the way.)

2) On that note, to the people to whom you are referring, an achievement like DAII's doesn't require NG+ to be used. They could just make another character and start fresh again. Once again, achievements wouldn't be a good reason here.

3) In the other game I mentioned (Batman:AC), the NG+ doesn't make the game easier or less faithful. You start off with all of your upgrades earned prior, but the difficulty is amped up in order to accommodate. Enemies do more damage, icons indicating when they're attacking are no longer available, etc. In this case, NG+ attempts to offer a fresh experience, not an easier one. Other games have done this in the past, such as Resident Evil, Metroid, and other franchises.

All that said, I'm not trying to prove you "wrong", I'm just wondering if you have anything more compelling than the point you tried to make prior. Because I just don't see how that could be a valid reason. Just because a minority doesn't want an achievement based on something they don't want to play doesn't mean they exclude the feature altogether. Achievements are actually there to encourage players to try all aspects of the game, and they don't even have to make an achievement for something if they don't want to. Gears 2 has Horde Mode, which I didn't like. Think that stopped them from putting in Horde Mode achievements? Think that stopped me from buying and enjoying the game?

1.) In that NG+ DA2 doesn't allow you to retain your character's skills, experience points, etc. like in ME2 or other games. You start out at level 1 and the only thing that transfers is your achievements. So it really isn't a NG+.

2.) I was only relaying my opinion on why NG+ isn't in games based on people I've talked to about it. I like NG+ features as I hate losing my progress.

3.) True, but I don't like the difficulty being ramped up; then there is no feeling of progress, IMO. Similar to when a game scales with your character (ala Oblivion, Skyrim to some extent, etc.).

Achievements/Trophies are waste of time, IMO. Especially those that have no bonuses or effects in-game.

@Frybread:

I see your points of course, but you misread my first. I gave a reason for them to include NG+ in DAII, while also stating that the game didn't actually have NG+. And you countered with... a reaffirmation...? Lol.

If I did misread your first point then I apologize.

I wish more games included NG+ features.  Like I said, I hate losing all of my progress when starting a new game.  Since I game on the PC I can just cheat my characters up to level 20 or 30 or whatever but I always feel weird about doing that.

I think they could have done alot more with the post campaign save in Dragon Age... I Finally got my computer working again and was looking forward to finally seeing the end of the game and in the way the story goes, It ends on quite a epic way if you had to ask me... I was only disappointed when I ended up back in the mansion unable to do anything or go anywhere and having this post-campaign save which seems to do nothing... After getting all the cool equipment and skills I was looking forward to maybe starting the next play-through with it or the cash or at least bring my character features over or just something... instead there is no great item for finishing... no free roam... no post war look around to see how things changed... nothing... The end left me a little disappointed like with the ending of Dragon's Dogma where you pretty much become god and can do nothing... At least in Dragon's Dogma, you can use the Godsbane Blade and begin the new game plus with your inventory and Character and what not... Just seems like a bit of a let down for Dragon Age with the way they did the post campaign save... There is no point to really loading it

The post campaign save i imagine would have being used for the DA2 expansion that was stillborn. So it was intended to be used for something, it will just sadly never happen.Also if you still have to import into the next game it may still have some use.Provided the DA2 dlc hasn't corrupted the saves.

The expansion was presumably going to be dlc,but we don't know how big it would have been. We don't know if DAI will have a new game plus but I doubt it will.
