I think personality edges out looks but that's just me. If they have both then great.

Personality and voice are more important to me than looks in a videogame LI.

Posted ImagePosted ImageI'm pretty much like this, although I like it if looks match.  But personality usually influences looks in my head.  Oddly enough, I'm like this in real life too.

What if Anders returns? I mean epilogues mention he heads to the free marches and in one epilogue he joined Isabela's crew.

then in with hunt the mages banter about Anders, is BW hinting at something?

It's possible. A few months ago, I came across a comment that was in regards to Nathaniel saying something about being in the Free Marches before returning to Ferelden and the poster wondered if we'd see him again in DA2. One of the dev's responded with something along the lines of, "It's like we planned this... we planned this." Mind you, that's not a direct quote.

To be honest, I'd be absolutely betwuttled (cookies to anyone who gets the reference) to find out both Nathaniel and Anders return as companions/LIs for DA2, even just as temporary ones. Stranger things have happened before, so who knows. Of course, if they both return, I'm not sure who I'd romance first. Nathaniel? Anders? Nathaniel and Anders? Oh, the possibilities ... How one dresses is not the best factor to go off for determining whether a character is a LI or not,
especially with males of all things. I mean look at Alistair, when you first meet him he just looks like some army chump in splintmail, you would need to be some sort of prophet to know that he is a LI by just that.

My point is that she wears pretty-but-revealing/sexy clothes. You want evidence? Look at Morrigan's outfit. Look at Miranda's outfit. Look at Jack's outfit. Hell, Samara dresses in a revealing outfit and she only is a half romance interest.

This has to do with female LIs, how I would've been able to tell Isabela was a LI just upon seeing her--"revealing" doesn't mean "good-looking" in male LIs; there's very little male LIs could wear that could constitute being good looking that isn't, like, a tuxedo or something, you're right. Yet, I will point out that both Thane and Jacob wear very tight, very stylish outfits. In any case, the only follower with her own outfit was Morrigan in DAO.

Racial difference does not weird as many people out as you might think.
So what if he is a dwarf, he could be the Archdemon and someone, somewhere out there will still romance him.
I have this *vibe* to try and get you to add some evidence into your arguments, not just give speculation.

Some women are. And that's fine, it's personal choice, but I think even they are willing to admit that dwarves don't appeal to everyone. I should point out that even the lead writer doesn't like the idea of a dwarf romance-not to say Mary couldn't write it.

And I'm not saying "Oh, I think he's ugly, I could never romance him!" Personality matters. I don't think Thane is attractive, but he's my favorite ME romance. I'm saying that he wouldn't appeal physically to most women, and BioWare makes their LIs physically attractive (or, at least, they intend to, since I don't find Kaidan handsome, I just realize he's supposed to be).

You are right it is only a opinion and accepting that you could be wrong is not a problem, it shows maturity.
Probably alot of women find Varric attractive. Chest hair seems to be the new fancy *writes down on note*.
Does that make him likely as a LI? possibly if fan population for this idea was high in post or poll numbers.

VOs are one of the earliest things done--far before Varric was ever popular, his voice actor had probably done most of his work. They could bring him in again to do a full romance, but my point is popularity isn't taken into account when making LIs. At least for this series.

A fan thread is the best place to gauge how people respond to a particular character.
The haters come in, say their word and go out. The neutral guys come in, say their word and go out.
Then you get the fans who come in all the time and sometimes go out.

No it isn't. A fan thread is exactly that--a thread for the fans of the character. A "hater" coming in is a troll. Different opinions are allowed, but not a "hater". The majority of people will not post in that thread if they don't like or don't care about the character. Look at pretty much any of the threads for characters--they are filled with people who love the character. There's very little middle ground. Do you think that means every character is completely adored by the majority of the fandom?

I'm not saying this is a bad thing. I quite like Varric--not as a LI, but he seems like a great character for a narrator--but the fan thread is probably the worst place you could go to gauge on how the fandom as a whole would react to the character.

Besides that, as I pointed out in my initial post, what these forums like =/= most gamers like. Although you would probably think that the stats of what Origins are played are fairly even looking at these forums, you'd be wrong. It was a teeny tiny number of people who played the dwarf Origins--3%.

By this you could record small but hard numbers on the response to the character if the thread is popular.
Fan threads can turn out to be exactly opposite to what the creator intended: hater threads.
So a decent mix of people come into these threads, which could be recorded, even briefly glimpsing over say..
10 pages gives you a good number on all the sides.

Then you get hate threads. And those aren't allowed. They get closed. Even probably the least popular ME2 character (excusing Morinth) has his own love thread, and they talk about him as his fans. Haters don't swarm it and turn it into a hate thread. Rational people, if they don't like him, just stay out of it.

Even though like you I don't believe Varric will be an LI, I'm trying at least to use evidence / facts for my reasons.
This is what I'm trying to get across in this post. Either use some evidence to support your claim or be flamed

What evidence have you provided, exactly?

To sort of support this, as much as it pains me to say this... *tears up* the fan thread only consists of like 6-8 people in general, that's not a large sample size.

I do too but if she's not voicing Morrigan then I don't want to hear hers.  She is instantly recognizable in Mass Effect 2.

She's in Mass Effect 2 (haven't played, but now SERIOUSLY interested)

By the way, ever seen Farscape, or the 9-10th Seasons of Stargate?

She and Simon Templeman both...that part of the game is very weird if you play Origins first.

Aeryn/Vala ftw. :) Seriously, Claudia Black can just do no wrong.

Who does she play? & does she say "Frell" at any point?

Edit: Was to ignorant to proofread Who as How

I don't remember her name off the top of my head, but both she and Simon Templeman play members of the Quarian Admiralty Board during Tali's loyalty mission.

I'd say the only permanent companions we've seen so far would probably

be Varric, Isabela and Bethany. The others I have more a feeling are just the 'filler' companions like the ones in DA:O's origins or Ostager. It would be foolish to give every single companion you'll see the entire game within the first hour. Or even within the first couple of months of developtment. Which leaves us with 2 rogues, 1 Mage and 1 warrior (if carver doesn't die)

Bioware also said ATLEAST two companions of each class, this in no way implies there will be only two max. Besides we know nothing of what's going to happen with the dalish, Templars or any other part of the rest of the game, for all we know were going to get a dalish companion (that female Mage one from dalish origin please) a Templar and a circle mags atleast

Er, didn't a dev say outright that Varric is not a LI or at least that there are no dwarven LIs in DA2? They are not talking about romances much but I'm pretty sure this was said pretty clearly when people went crazy over Varric.

I'm not sure about Aveline either, she strikes me as a Jory/Daveth type of a companion.

I think one of the LIs will be a Dalish elf that you pick up doing Flemeth a favour:) I'm hoping for a male elf resembling the dalish origin art from DAO.
