I'm just hoping for more than 4 LIs. More LIs mean more bases covered for different tastes. 6 seems to be the right number (3 for guys, 3 for girls).

Er, didn't a dev say outright that Varric is not a LI or at least that there are no dwarven LIs in DA2? They are not talking about romances much but I'm pretty sure this was said pretty clearly when people went crazy over Varric.

IIRC all that was said was one of the devs saying that dwarf romances (at least those that aren't dwarf x dwarf) are gross. But that person isn't writing Varric.

The problem you are getting with this is that the development of each relationship might become much more shallow. ME had only three romancable characters and although a lot of people did not like one or the other LI, the romance story lines themselves were quite well done. ME2 had more choice but about 3 conversations each to establish the romance. For me, it felt much more flat.

Yes, I know about that but I meant a different post. It was quite some time ago but I remember a dev post saying "Varric is not a LI, he's just an important character who narrates the story" something like that... I just remember that it was very clear from what was said that Varric is not a LI... but maybe I'm misremembering it.

If its going to be 4 LIs, then my guess is the following -

Male Hawke :

Isabella (obviously), and Aveline



Female Hawke :

Isabella (She is bisexual) and Varric.



I'm pretty sure Isabella will be playing for both teams. It'll cut down the writing a bit, similar to ME1. Can't say I like it, and I wish there was at least another choice (Perhaps a bisexual male so the gay guys can get their cake too?) but that's the impression I've gotten so far.

I think there will be more companions then we think, and some of them can be killed in Lothering. Since Isabela is being advertised in trailers, and she is optional, I think all LI's will not be involved in the plot unlike Origins, thats why I'm starting to think Varric wont be romancable.

In my opinion, Nathaniel and Anders were one of the most promising characters for romance. Both of them are very distinct and I find their personalities to be what I'd like to see in DA2. I'm sure BW will do just as great with characters this time around, so I'm not too worried



As for Varric, I'm not sure. I really like his personality from what we know (well, it ISN'T much) and wouldn't mind him being romancable for those who care about the issue, but personally I don't know if I'd be able to romance a dwarf with my Lady Hawke, seeing as I never really got into playing their race in Origins.

If he is then it probably won't be confirmed until after they reveal a more conventional male LI. We're still in for a bit of a wait n' see with Varric, I think. (Great article btw!)

I doubt hawke is going to be parading around saying "Want to join my group of champions." so personally i think aveline will stay. if her husband dies where else does she have to go?

I'm starting to think Bioware might throw an option in, to save the husband somehow, or just let him die.

This of course could have relationship reprocaustions. If help him, most likley Aveline won't be an avaible option. Then their might be two different options, where we flat out refuse helping her ailing husband, thefore nulling any chance of a relationship after his death. Or we lie to her, and let her husband die for our own...greedy...purposes.

And those just happen to be the only companions Hawke isn't related to that we know by name so far 
I'm hoping they will keep the same number of LIs that DAO had, so 2 for females and 2 for males, but my guess would be something like this:
Male H:
Isabela, unknown female companion

Female H:
unknown male companion 1, unknown male companion 2

I think Aveline says goodbye when Hawke reaches Kirkwall. I have a feeling she's just a temporary companion like Jory/Daveth. She just looks too vanilla to me since a lot has been said about the unique looks of the companions. Isabela and Varric look a lot more polished in comparison.

So BW said there would be 2 companions for each class. We have Isabela who is a rogue and we had a mage (Morrigan) in DAO.   So I think BW will switch things up, and Aveline (Warrior) will be the 2nd female li.  I have a feeling Wesley dies, since he is on his deathbed and prolly leading to oppurtunites for hawke.  So both Female LI's have dead husbands, so males will have their share of carth syndrome.

I strongly believe Varric is a LI.  He is being advertised more then any other companion and it seems he knows more about hawke then anyone else.  plus i've heard devs make hints they wanted to write a dwarf romance.  So since we have 2 of each class now, that leaves a male mage LI.

So that is what I think and I am prolly completely wrong, so don't take this serious.

since in DAO, Leliana was the only person to really have a real lover (If you would call Marjolaine that), its would be interesting to have a companion or 2 with carth syndrome. we know Isabela has an ex husband but i dont think she has carth syndrome about him.

Technically, DAO had 3 for guys and 3 for girls, since one of each gender was bisexual.

look at it this way.  Like I said before BW said 2 companions for each class, and only humans and elves can be mages, so I think a male LI will be a mage, unless BW has a thing for female mages.

How about a dark and sinister male mage for LI? Just to fill up that void for the never-gonna-happen Flemeth romance. Although that might be too close to a male version of Morrigan for the writers' taste.

I'd like to see a selfish narcissistic bastard for male LI, mage or not, but that's just my personal taste.

they could shock you with Isabella being the sensitive nice one after you get to know her properly over the years. Plus...its over ten years...people change with time. Bioware have done a masterstroke by setting it over 10 years, i hope they capitalize on it with some solid natural character development.

Don't give me reason to hope for Anders to come back and be a LI! My little heart won't take the disappointment if he isn't. Though, it just may explode if BW ever confirmed it. Nonono! All I can think about is the moment when BW confirmed he wasn't romancable in Awakenings and I was sooo bummed. >_< (Going to my mental happy place now.)

Ahem. If BW is going with the same pattern as before it'll be four LIs with two being romancable by either gender. We already have one LI confirmed that takes the place as the bisexual female romance; so it's safe to assume we'll get the two heterosexual LIs(male and famale) and one bi male romance. Assuming the devs are following the same pattern with the LIs being almost opposite of each other, whoever the next female LI is, she's going to be the very opposite of Isabela. This is where I think Aveline fits in. Though, it's all assumptions for now.

I doooo really want the 'push-me-against-the-wall-and-ravish-me-type' for Lady Hawke. That or someone like Nathaniel without the family issues.
