even liara has more significance than shepard... commander shepard's more like a Lackey... beneath all...

he should be taking orders from ashley, liara, and tattooed baldy lady.B)

in fact shepard shouldn't be in command of anything... it should be miranda, and liara running the show... they're the captain of whatever ship shepard commands... they can do wtf they want.

seriously... if shepard gave someone like jack a order, jack can totally ignore it, and or do the exact opposite of what was commanded.

Miranda's literally next in command, and totally would love to like take control over everything, including shepard's ship... she want to turn him into a mental puppet via neural chip implant... thus having command over a commanding superior's mind.

liari is more important than shepard... if she wanted, she can totally go all shadow broker on the guy and commender his entire ship/alliance career.

if he was captain, he'd get demoted and have low ranking ashley take his place.

I don't understand... how does Ashley go from being a private (Mass Effect 1), to suddenly becoming a Staff Lt. Commander in just 2 years (Mass Effect 2)? I can see Private Grade 2, or 3... or atleast Corporal Grade 1 (someone's rank after private, which is about 1 to 4 years of  promotions). Staff Lt. Commander? yup... no plotholes there at all bioware... none at all. Even if her character somehow made Sergeant Grade 1... would be more sensible than just suddenly being staff lt. commander.

Major/Commander/considerable captain Shepard's below such a ranked personnel who's ashley, and everyone else...

Ashley Williams was a Gunnery Chief in ME1 and if she survives, she is promoted to Operations Chief in ME2.
Kaidan Alenko was a Lieutenant in ME1 and if he survives, he is promoted to Commander in ME2.
From what source do you have those ranks?

Shepard is a Lieutenant Commander.

Kaiden is a Lieutenant.

Ashley is a Gunnery Chief - later promoted to Ops Chief.

Shepard is a commished officer, if he were promoted, he'd be Staff Commander, then Captain.

Kaiden is a commished officer, if he were promoted he'd be a Lieutenant Commander, then Staff Commander.

Ashley is a non-commished officer, she is at the highest rank of NCOs which is Operations Chief.

Although, Technically due to his undead status, Shepard no longer has a command in the Alliance, he still outranks both Ash and Kaiden because he does in fact captain a vessel.

@tommyt_1994.

That too. Shep is a spectre who answers to the council himself, in addition to being Lieutenant Commander - the highest rank on the Normandy. So, he can order who the hell he wants around as long as he can provide proof of his Spectre status.

I want to know why [and how] Bioware gave you a super special unique copy of the game. Really.

In Mass Effect, at least the version most people in the world have, Ashley is never a private.
Name: Ashley Madeline Williams

Rank: Gunnery Chief

Military Vocational Code: B4

Current Posting: 2nd Frontier Division, Eden Prime

So, in ME2, Ashley is promoted to the rank of Operations Chief.

Not that the actual information in the game [the version the rest of the world has, anyway] has ever stopped you from making sweeping statements before. So, whatever.

You are a complete mentalist. What does this even mean? What parts of it I can decipher are simply wrong.

To be precise, Kaidan was a Staff Lieutenant in ME1 and (if alive) was promoted two ranks to Staff Commander in ME2.  So, IF Shepard was still enlisted in the Systems Alliance Military, Kaidan would technically outrank him, but Ashley would not.

Not that it matters at all, since I'm pretty sure Bioware won't address this in ME3.

Okay, I think ranks have been established now.
