Problem started yesterday duromg third playthrough while aboard the Normandy 2. Was at the Weapon locker and selected Sheppard to change out weapons and "game" locked up. Restarted and chose Miranda with same results. Game "does NOT lock up with and of the DLC characters when changing out weapons.
Anyone with ideas please give me a shout.
Many thanks,

I used to have this problem as well and it was a processor problem. It happened when I was running on only one core (don't ask why). I've heard Mass Effect 2 doesn't like overclocked processors so make sure you're running at standard clockspeeds.

Thanks for the reply
Okay; but this 81 year old will need your assist in "how to" insure all 6 cores are working.
I have gone to Device Manager and under the 'Processors' there are no problems indicated.
Where else to check?

Hi Guys,
I am also having this problem. It seems to me after I downloaded & installed the DLC for my ME2 Collector's Edition. My system is:
Mobo: Gigabyte P55-UD4P
CPU: I7 870
OS: Win7 64bit ultimate
GPU: Asus ATI HD6870
PSU: Thermaltake Grand 750W
In addition to that the video play seems to be not as smooth as before I downloaded & installed all the DLC & patch 1.02. I remembered that before all the downloads, I could manage to change the weapons on Jacobs selection. But now i can't do for any of them. Miranda, Zaeed, etc. So, what should I do?
Ponggoh.

You have to assume the cores are running. I only had this problem once because I was messing with my PC settings. It's this line I'm more worries about: "CPU Boost: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz". Mass Effect 2 doesn't like overclocking so the processor has to run at standard clockspeeds. I never overclocked so I can't assist you with that.
This is all a guess, of course. My own experiences make me assume it's processor related but I have no real evidence. If it's only the weapons locker on the Normandy just switch your weapons before the mission in the squad select options.

Hi Guys,
Ok, I have solved the problem. I remove one of the DLC ME2_CerberusArc and now I can go into the weapons locker to select and change weapons but I felt that I am short changed for not able to use that DLC if it is any important. Anyways,t I think my CPU is slightly boosted at CMOS so I will try your method of making it to default value. Will report back and see if it does any good.

Many thanks for the back Ponggoh and Fredvdp .
I have played through the game on "Insane" with a female "Sheppard".
Took me some 60 hours total of game play. NO PROBLEMS!
Am now attempting to play thru with a male "Sheppard".
Please note that any "Weapon Locker" so far will crash the game.
I am still in the dark about CMOS and stuff.
Will try your idea about dumping " DLC ME2_CerberusArc
" if you could 'please'tell me how to do this".

Hi Drybones,
Ok, here what I did to remove one of the DLC. Click on Computer > Click on C drive, click on Program Files or Program Files (x86). Depends where you have installed your Mass Effect 2. Click on that then click on BioGame. Once there you could see DLC folder, click on that and you will see all your dlc subfolders, then cut one of the folder and remove to other location of your choice just in case you have lost the DLC files. Then try and see if you could go to the weapons locker without any problem. By the way, this DLC ME2_CerberusArc is the grenade thrower that you got at the beginning of the game, so if you don't think you need to keep that, so far you got through well enough on insane anyways. ha,ha. I don't know if later in the game it will crash again, time will tell.
By the way I went to CMOS and tried to get my RAM & CPU to default and it didn't work, tough luck.

Thanks to you Both!
It turns out the "Firepower Pack" is the culprit.
I downloaded it once again and the game locks up at the weapons locker.
So much for DLC's.
This 81 year old has been bitten for the LAST TIME by DLC.
Will be playing once again this afternoon.

Seems I was way off but at least we know the problem now. I've seen this question asked many times before.

I installed the firepower pack for the first time and started having these problems. Don't go for that triple barrel shotgun, not worth losing the weapons locker.
edit: I've experimented with the DLC and multiple installs. The game continues to crash at any weapons locker regardless of whether the Firepower pack, OverLord, Shadow Broker, and/or Aegis pack is installed. I've tried not patching to the current patch, but it seems that 1.02 patch was the issue but the crashing persists. My PC's specs are WAY above recommended, and I have MSI Afterburner and ASUS PC Probe v2 running on extended screens. When the game crashes, the gpu and cpu continue normally until I tell the game to end process due to unresponsiveness.
If any Moderators or fixers from BioWare see, read, and actually give my post a second thought,
Thank YOU for your time and concern.
My Build:
CPU: Intel i7 980x 3.33GHz (Stock)
Ram: 12 gb
GPU: radeon HD 5870
And I'm running Direct X10 or later with a Xi-Fi Sound Blaster Card.
Sincerely.

Hi Guys,
I have found I think is the problem with my set up is the Asus SmartDoc 5.66 software. Once I remove this software, put back the DLC ME2_CerberusArc and went to the weapons lock and no CTD or black screen, it is smooth sailing all the way. You might want to try uninstall some of the O'Ced utility software.

Asus ATI HD6870
4GB RAM
Win7 64bit ultimate

OK. I figured it out. After uninstalling ASUS TurboV and ASUS GamerOSD, the game no longer crashes! I've even noticed a slight increase in performance on my pc as a whole.

Problem starts while aboard and not aboard the Normandy 2. Was at the Weapon locker and selected Sheppard to change out weapons and "game" locked up. Restarted and chose someone else with either the same results or it just crashes. Game starts locking up an crashing after I installed Firepower Pack DLC, does anyone have any ideas to help me an anyone else with this problem?
