Right, so here's how it is.
I want to create my own specific companions for my module and I want to set up specifically how the followers level up, what skills/talents they learn etc. I know how to create the .xls files and convert them into .gda files but I don't know how then to link them to the 'package' tab in the creature editor on the toolset (the tab that chooses Morrigan/Generic - Warrior packages etc.)
If anyone could explain or link me somewhere that explains how to do this I would appreciate it.

The AL tables for the DA:O companions are hardcoded. For my modules I replace the hiring chain with my own script (the same one as my Follower Tutorial on the wiki) and use hardcoded ALTable references for my own companions.
There's another tutorial on the wiki that may have gotten further on this issue than I did. I worked out companions exactly enough to solve my own problems and then stopped

My tutorial actually refers to your tutorial on how to make the AL tables. However, I did include a variation of my hiring script that initiates the auto level-up process using the AL tables. (Although I have no idea if that script works as-is; it might need some tweaking).
In a nutshell:
1) Create an AIP table and an AL table
2) Set up the packages_base and M2DA_base 2das
3) Set your creature's properties to the custom AIP and AL tables
4) Hire the creature with some variation of the script I included in the follower_tutorial2

As far as I can tell the package information in the creature editor doesn't affect how the companions level. I think it only works with enemies. I had to use the custom function from the wiki Follower tutorial to get the companions to use even the standard auto level tables for the companions that come with the game.

Correct. Just setting it up in creature properties won't work. You need to use the hiring script to spend the available points according to the AL table.
Check out this script. It isn't quite as long as the custom function one (though as I said earlier, it hasn't been tested, so it may not work as-is).

Thanks for the replies. I'll be sure to look into the wiki tutorials.
