I hope there'll be some news on the adapted toolset soon.

Due to my limited ressources I have to think as economic as
a company - wich weeds out many games for me.

Console games - nope sorry no money left for an additional
hardware platform and more expensive titles.
Games without a toolset just drop out from the list for me like
those without an offline sp campaign, drm requirement beyond
registration, lack of / extremley limited character appearance
customization, those with a gender restriction or fable / fable
clones and games without installation media as well as those
lacking keyboard support - no matter the quality and supposed
game fun.

I just don't see the appeal to most mods; certainly not for a game like DA:O. I did think the NWN SP mods were brilliant; once I got into a few of them, they absolutely justified my purchase of the game. But that was a whole toolkit built around the idea of a do-it-yourself game.

The quality of many mods is truly amazing. Some full release games have evolved from well developed community mods. Based on your fondness for SMAC, you really ought to look into Fall From Heaven 2, a Civilization IV mod. Imagine Alpha Centauri in a fantasy setting with more profound differences between the various warring factions, along with hero units, spells, and even equipment.

The possibility of good mod support is the primary factor in my decision to purchase any given multiplatform game for either the PC or a console. It can make that much of a difference.

On the other hand, it does occasionally require venturing into rabbit holes like the various Nexus sites, wherein we learn how truly bizarre and depraved some of our fellow gamers can be.

Edit: Hmm, maybe he meant "Vous trouverez Dragon Age 2 en Mars."

Indeed I did, but by that point at the conference my throat was so wrecked that I should never have tried.

Protip: If you are feeling a tickle at the back of your throat on the flight over to Germany, and have to talk for four days straight, Gamescom is gonna hurt.

I'll remember that when I am a game designer.Posted Image
