I just finished TST and am about halfway through The Calling, and I have to say I doubt that Maric is the type to be irresponsible about his lovers. He made such a huge mistake with Katriel, letting himself trust her and love her unconditionally when he shouldn't have, that I don't think he would allow himself that kind of intimacy with just anyone again. He also knew how much his love for Katriel had hurt Rowan, and I agree with a previous poster who said that by the end of TST, they'd settled into a strong partnership and (mostly) love. He wouldn't jeopardize that by sleeping around. If nothing else, Maric is honourable and does what is necessary. He had most of the selfish idealism drained out of him by the end of TST. Kind of like hardened Alistair.
As for Maric being Morrigan's father...I wondered at that too, when I read TST, but I don't think the timeline fits. Time will tell, though, I suppose. I hope. I also REALLY want to know all that Flemeth told Maric. You know there has to be more than just the warning about the Blight. Maybe she told him he was going to father one of the saviours of Fereldan? Do you think maybe she hinted at the Dark Ritual?
I'm looking forward to the end of The Calling to read for myself what's up with Fiona/Maric/baby. But, from what I've gleaned, it would make sense for the babe to be Alistair. That would be one reason why the High Cleric didn't want to let him go with Duncan. But with Maric dead and therefore unable to protest, and the Wardens desperate for recruits...well, they do what they have to, right?

Maric probably has several bastards around. I don't trust him at all.
Seriously. There's nothing about Maric to suggest he picked up some sense when it comes to letting his little Maker out.
There's nothing about Maric that suggests he's a womanizer either. He was how old when he was seduced by Katriel? And considering the fact that Maric knew how much he had hurt Rowan by sleeping with Katriel (even though he was truly in love with Katriel and considering marrying her despite the fact that it'd ****** off a lot of conservatives), I have high doubts he'd make the same mistake a second time AFTER he'd married Rowan. Plus every sexual relationship he's had with women in these books has never been presented as one night stand kind of things. With the exception of Fiona (which he WANTED to be long term) his relationships with women (all two of them) have been long term partnerships- which is not the way Alistair describes his "mother's" relationship with Maric (star struck maid is the term he used IIRC).
