Oh, you meant a handful sets per character? My apologies I thought you meant a handful sets for every character (as in able to equip with "everyone").
That idea there is a lot better and I agree with it. That'd I'd like to see myself even.

How many would be sufficient for you? And how do you handle the distinction between armors that any companion can wear and armors that they can't? I suppose putting something like D&D class restrictions into the system would keep things manageable. Or even just flat out saying this suit is only for, e.g.,  Isabela.

Yes, but that will mean that none of the characters will have any body language or uniquely poseable bodies (or rather they'd all have the same). That limits characterisation a great deal by reducing the character to just a head and cutting out between 40 and 60% of their entire communication. The interactability with the companions loses a lot by having generic bodies.
That is the primary drawback.

I'm skeptical that this will make much of a difference, otherwise Hawke would have no personality either.  And because our companions in Origins all seemed unique and expressive to me.

Nevermind this post, I thoroughly confused myself while edits and several posts were made at the same time.

Make it character specific & a max of 7-8, min of 3-4, which is less than the amount of armors found in Origins

I'm not sure your point, you are saying that NPC's will have multiple unique looks (which was my point)
Are you saying that there wont be enough to choose from? because we dont know that yet.

They could keep their signature body shape/movements!

Sooo I am confused by your response to Sir JK (who has  rational point, by the way). What are you trying to say here? I don't think you understand the game engine and how models/animations work in DA 2, honestly.

If they can design one unique look, they can make three-four unique looks. Specialize then per character so there is no sharing. Only let Isabela wear the pirate suits, Only Bethany can wear the Mage suit. Get it now?

Well, they were aware of the drawback and thus toned down the body language used a lot. But you can see it at times, Leliana and Anora for instance have the same body language is certain scenes. Exactly the same (which figures, it's the same animation). I think Morrigan also uses it from time to time. It's a lot less noticeable among the male party members since well... they all have their own model (the warden being the exception... but the warden have no body language at all anyways)

I'll also point out that Hawke will have his/her own body in the fixed outfit model (or at least I think so) and can thus be just as expressive as the companions.

Mind... I'm not saying they will use body language and posing a lot. I'm just saying that the fixed models allows it.

Hawke has Hawke body type, All "generic" armor in game is specifically made for him/her, NPC's have thier unique body types and only armor made for them will fit

The wording of the podcast leads me to believe that we will not be able to change our companions looks even though they will change during the course of gameplay. I think we need at least 3-4 unique looks per character & that we should be able to change them whenever we want.

They have made unique looks, that's the point of the unique outfits for each companion. So they can have unique poses/animations/appearance. If all the companions had the same exact models, they wouldn't stress the need to have individual, tailored outfits and would have given us hundreds of generic mix-n-match armours to play with like in Origins.

reminds me of how outfits were managed in rogue galaxy(ps2 game) if i remember right they had a single slot for armor and there were roughly 3/4 outfits per character, what's great about this system is that each party member looked unique and each outfit had different advantages/disadvantages so the armors never really felt useless.
i'm hoping that is the case for DA2.

Sir JK im fairly sure its not about "body language", as most animations will be reused like DAo. But more about "body type" meaning isabela will be slighly taller and bustier then female companion 2, and carver will be more muscular then male companion 2.

Its the body sizes that make generic armor incompatable

Why is everyone so happy about the new inventory system?

The short of it is a quite simple case of connecting the dots:
-The people who are happy about it are the same ones who liked it in Mass Effect 2.
-The people who liked it in Mass Effect 2 are casual gamers.
-Casual gamers don't like RPGs because they require putting time and effort into the game.
-Bioware caters to the casual gamer by alienating longterm customers in favor of appealing to the much larger, casual gamer market.
-Casual gamers love this, as it makes them feel superior in some form, as well as validated as gamers.
-Casual gamers thus praise Bioware and act like anyone who is unhappy is an ungrateful schmuck.

So why is everyone so happy about the new inventory system? Because they're sheep.

Well then I support you, I was hoping [the above] system would be implemented & I said so one one of the threads, it seems my hopes were dashed though

That too, but a unique model needs it's own animations and if it is unique then they can put that character's touch on every action. Mimicing body language.

What is it with these people who think they represent some hardcore gaming ideal?  I'm especially entertained by their asseertions that anyone who could have a different opinion than them must not be thinking.  It's fascinating.

No wait, what's that word I'm thinking of.  Oh yeah, tiresome.

We're talking pure cosmetics, right? You couldn't rely on that few sets of armor for the whole game if they had varying effects the way they do in DAO.

Well it's the same deal with restricting the weapon choices- I'll take customization, being able to shape my game the way I want to shape it, over the hot-rod samurai unique animations.  Similarly, being able to play the game I want to play is more important to me than some minor modification some artist thinks is cool  (as in Isabela's ridiculous outfit and Bethany's chainmail bra).  Also having companions look the same all the time, the entire game, every playthrough, rather cuts down on the "cool and unique" factor.  I accept that not everyone agrees with me.

I suspect that these changes are geared towards the person who plays the game once, maybe even doesn't finish it, wants to see a few cool things and then tosses it aside for the next thing.  It's $60 for BW whether you ever replay the game or not, but to me it definitely figures in on the negative side of the cost-benefit calculation.  There's just not very much on the positive side at this point.

I dont think we know for a fact wether they will change outfits at certain times automatically or we will gain access to more outfits as the game progresses.

Even if we cant specifically change their clothes but they do throughout the game. I'll be cool with that

Yes I was talking about cosmetics, I fear to state my opinions about how they should be geared in a certain way, as the hounds may attack again.

Assuming you're not actually parodying the attitude you're displaying - it's so hard to tell -
that would be the point where the argument falls apart.

Exhibit A: the non-"casuals" who liked it. I know, reality can be so annoying.

They haven't said that you will get outfits that look different, in fact Mike Laidlaw said that would be the exception rather than the rule.  So Isabela will probably always be pantsless, she'll just have the +5 Thong of Power and the +10 and then you'll get to hang a rune on there.
