Again we're presented with a toolset whose creature resources have a glaring hole!  The toolset has goats, chickens, pigs, cats, and dogs, but not one HORSE!  In a rural community the horse is THE most vital farm animal.  It provides the triple functions of transportation, plowing, and bearing of budens.  Bioware did this to us in the NWN2 toolset and the community waited years to get a CC of some horses.  I think they're afraid that if they do provide horses in the toolset there will be an unending clamor to provide riding capability in the game.  Why not just say the engine in no way shape or form will support riding horses, and provide us some models?  I think we're all grown up to accept the restriction to gameplay, but I refuse to accept the cultural restriction of the lack of horses in a fantasy world.  Oh, and I just noticed no cows either.  Ugh...I hate goat cheese.

It's funny given how Cailan and Duncan early on constantly speak of "riding into battle".

Riding what? If not horses then...

... suddenly I have an image in my head of Cailan riding on top of Duncan, smacking him with a riding crop.

Angry One; I did not want to imagine that.

Aren't there some half-eaten/destroyed horse corpses in the beginning of the game, where you find that injured soldier? I might be thinking of a different game, but I think you might be able to find corpses.

Ahaha, I needed a laugh.

... On topic, a horse could be made from scratch, but that's a pretty difficult thing- takes a very talented modder/artist with a knack for animation as well.

You know as soon as a horse model turns up, people want it to be rideable. It's only natural. No horse, no riding spam :P

well, horses who just move their head would be a start, then the artist could add moving one leg at a time. It would be enough for horses you can't ride.

We just need the player to believe that these horses could move if needed. They would be, for all intent or purpose, only props. Who needs to fight against a horse ?

i don't want to break the fun, and i like the horse idea, but I’m wondering where it will be useful in the game. The way its design you fast travel on the world map, well maybe in player mod but in the main campaign really I just don’t see the use to it. But still would be fun to have or like a pack mule in Dungeon Siege

Well, there is jousting. Leliana talks about it actually, says some chick was great at riding a horse. Of course, no jousting in ferelden, because they're northern savages from what I can tell. :D

Griffins ate em.

Actually it would have been nice if an ambient creature horse was in the toolset even if they were not going to be used in game as then you could at least use them in cutscenes.

Have a gander at my 'Riding a deer' cutscene sample.

In theory it should be possible to add horse models. Not easy, and requires some tools that are not ready yet, but possible.

Adding riding...well, that's hard - very hard.by comparison. I'm not going to claim it is impossible - in fact someone might actually manage to pull it off, but it will require a lot of hard work.

You could possibly ride halla? They are pretty tall, a talented modeler could maybe turn one into a horse too, maybe? ;)

In a cutscene yes, in game I have no idea.

In my original post, I only meant that it is difficult to portray a rural village for immersion purposes without horses available for farm work.
