I have yet to find the SMG. Is that is something that is coming soon?
Did I go in the wrong direction?
Wasn't sure if I should have the SMG by now.
I appreciate it.

Locust SMG - Kasumi's heist
Tempest SMG - Haestrom (recruit Tali)
and you already have Shuriken SMG right from the start.

the shiruken is a joke. you have to wait untill your practically done with the game in order to get a serious weapon for the SMG classes. which was a terrible design idea in my opinion. it doesnt make a whole lot of sense for the adept, sentinel and engineer to play their entire playthrough with the cranafax and the shiruken. your second play through will be alot funner with an actual SMG. but then again youll probably pick up the shotty around the same time you ghet the tempest anyways.
Ya, this is what I what I wanted to know. I would prefer NOT to run through the game without the SMG for most of it. Would prefer to pick it up sooner than later.
That possible?

Do Tali's recruitment mission to get the Tempest (best overall SMG if you don't have Kasumi DLC, and best SMG for companions regardless of that). Or do Kasumi's loyalty mission to get the Locust (best SMG for you, second best for companions).

You do realize the Shuriken deals more damage vs. shields and barriers than the Tempest and the Locust within 2 seconds, right?
Locust: (25 bullet dmg) x (20 ammo per clip) x (1.25 shield damage bonus) = 625
Time to empty a whole clip: about 2 secs
Tempest: (14 bullet dmg) x (50 ammo per clip) x (1.5 shield damage bonus) = 1050
Time to a whole clip: about 4 secs; 2 secs of Tempest damage is 525
Shuriken: (20.5 bullet damage) x (24 ammo per clip) x (1.5 shield damage bonus) = 738
Time to empty a whole clip: about 2 secs.
There is no clear best SMG... they all have their own usefulness.

my post was intended for someone looking to get there hands on an actual SMG, not a machine pistol. those numbers dont mean as much to me as they do to you. say what you want but in my gameplay experiecen the locust is far and beyond the "best" SMG. its even better then some of the ARs in my opinion.

One of the best is Locust in the Kasumi DLC, you will find it fairly early in that DLC.
Tempest is also decent especially at close range, with Tali recruitment.
I generally use the Locust for my character and give the Tempest to NPCs as soon as it comes available. Once you are past Horizon, you should have access to the upgrade if you want to go get it.

Future run throughs, I plan on trying Engineer, Sentinel and Vanguard. Soldier would be my least likely class to play. I played Adept in ME1 and it was ok. Not sure how it is in ME2.

i have a funny feeling the engineer would be a fun class to play with all its debuffs and what not, but i just cant get over playing a non-biotic. id say try the engineer. what the hell.

adepts are the CCers they should be on veteran and lower, but the two higher difficulties really take away from what the adept should be played like. there are those that love spamming singularity on insanity, but insanity just wasnt designed for the adept. so if you play the easier difficulties, the adept is more like your ME1 adept.
