This has been up several times and I suggest removing the link. If you just search Dragon Age 2 irgromir people can find it.

One question I do have, though, is what is up with the glowiness in the cutscene? I thought they were toning that stuff down?

Indeed it is. One can hope it'll prompt BioWare into (earlier) release of some official gameplay footage, if just to demonstrate that no, the game doesn't normally involve single character running around and shooting particles from a staff.

... maybe you should request it tho, just in case Posted Image

I wish I hadn't watched that clip when it turned up on Kotaku yesterday, but oh well. It only spoiled some of the very early stuff, and I would have been spoiled if I'd been there, anyway.

Regarding the gameplay... I though it was interesting in its speed. It looked very responsive, but possibly a little too fast? I was gratified to see that the man running around with Bethany trying to kite an ogre got his entire party killed.

The mage spellcasting animations were very punchy. I quite liked them. They did seem a little repetative after a while, but they're only the default attack animations anyway. The spell effects (especially the fire effects) look MUCH better than in DA:O.

Must resist urge to spoil..... The video has just been removed by EA.

The mage attack did feel repetitive. Like a person in Street Fighter or something doing the same four hit combo over and over and over and...

That kind of negated the bonus of it looking cooler, IMO.

Though I believe Priestly locked a previous thread about this vid saying it was an early build, so...

They keep getting removed, but you can still find more copies on YouTube.

In all fairness all the person did was the autoattack, repeating any move no matter how cool is bound to feel repetitive after a while.

If anything the autoattack probably has more variety than most, since it's different at melee range.

I think it was only the last part of the animation (the twirly bit) that made it look repetitive. If they could somehow rig it so that that part of the animation only played every now and then, it'd be fine. It just seems a bit ridiculous to twirl every 3 seconds in exactly the same way. The first parts of the animation were simple fireball shooting.

It's so early they only show it at conventions. No ordinary people may see it.

I think you're right.

I am reminded of Zelda: Wind Waker, fighting the spearmaster guy and having to hit him 1000 times or so... the way Link does his fourth hit which always involves some elaborate spin, gets a bit repetitive in that situation in particular. But for most of the game it works out alright because you're not just mindlessly hacking away most of the time. Maybe that's the case here as well.

This is the first time I've seen footage. Ugh. They turned Mike Laidlaw's "push a button and make something awesome happen" to ridiculous levels. Swords slicing through their arc in one frame is an utter joke. I don't care about how powerful the character is supposed to be at the point in the game, using animations like that totally obliterate any suspension of disbelief.

So dissapointing. As it stands right now, pass.

And here I thought that there would be a gameplay discussion,  not some I think-I-am-funny guy attempt to joke.
Oh wonders of  gamecons discussions : If it’s in France there will be a Monty Python references, if in Russia  - nonsensical use of Soviet reversal.  Can you stop it please?
Maybe  I should reference John Wayne  films in each and every American gamecon thread – Must be at least mildly amusing. :wizard:

Ahem, About the gameplay – I have never played on  a new Gen (And by new Gen I mean everything that came after the first PS)  console in my life so I do not know if console versions are supposed to be like that (Not sure about controls-gameplay connections and stuff) – All I know I wouldn’t like to have it on PC  -  I  guess I will wait till they show us a PC demo.
