Here we go. Specializations are tied to your account and not your character or saves. I guess the idea was that the specializations will be available across all characters that you are playing.

so all you have to do is save near the vendor. then buy the specialization and the just reload the game. you will have your old gold back and with a new shiny specialization.

for eg. you want to buy the specializations for ranger but hate that 15 gold price. no problems. go to camp. ensure that you have the 15 gold.
now save.
bo to the vendor and buy the ranger specialization. just reload to your last save. open character sheet and click level up. behold and joy! your new specialization without spending a single penny.

have fun guys.:wizard:

If I point out that absolutely everyone here has figured this out on their own already, and that (much more importantly) it also works on specializations that are quest-specific (like blood mage and reaver), will you consider that overly critical?

You can do the same with achivements.. save the game before doing it.

I did it with the Anvil of the void quest.. first i made Shale very angry, completed the battle, got the achivement, loaded the savegame and made Shale happy.. 2 achivements in same game run.

Eh, no harm done, you were just trying to contribute after all. ;)

I don't see it as a cheat. You inevitably find some of the specialisations very late in the game, or only if you play specific quest lines. Their being tied to the account makes them somewhat of a reward for finding them in a previous game. Yes, the merchant charging money for them is fairly pointless then, but you still have to find him, no?

There wouldn't be a way to run a good reaver, or an honest blood mage without this, either.

Yes, because I had no idea the specializations were tied to the account, so it's not absolutely everyone. :P

It's not something I would do, but then, I refuse to buy specializations on principle. Unless there's one you can only get by buying the book...

It isn't an exploit or a cheat. BioWare did it on purpose, it opens up new possibilities in subsequent games. As for Blood Magic...

The ONLY way to unlock Blood Magic is to travel into the Fade and confront the Desire Demon in the Redcliffe quest line. To do this you must either free Jowan and not tell him to leave the castle, then allow him to perform the spell and sacrifice Isolde OR you must get help from the Circle of Magi. For the latter you must complete Broken Circle. Once inside the Fade at the very end you will confront the Desire Demon and you must be willing to talk to it rather than kill it. You can make a deal whereby it will leave, for now, and you get a reward, one of which is Blood Magic.

Actually, there's a second way as long as your main is a mage.  There's a quest later on where you have to choose between destroying something for some fanatics or leaving it be.  If you destroy it and play nice with them, you'll learn Blood Mage.  (Mind you, this is from other posts on the forums - I was a warrior my time through and picked up Reaver instead.)

Or, If your going to cheat the game out of gold.

Why dont you just open up the console and give yourself as much gold as you want. Or you can make yourself level 25. Hell you can probly make yourself a dragon.

Cheating sucks

To each thier own I say.

Me, I prefer to play the game through and only use saves to prevent me from loosing several hours of game play. Choices I made are one time things and final. It is alot more fun that way and you get to replay the game using different characters going a different route next time.

I've been doing that all along... well, not the store thing... I just buy it and be done with it.

But I've been saving during the quests, and I'll go down one path to get the unlock/achievement... and then load, and do it the way I want to do it (basically the "good" choices).

I get both achievements, and any classes and such.

While getting all the achievements is nice... the main thing was unlocking the classes, so that other characters have them from the start.

Yeah, I found this out the hard way when I halfway into the game logged into my account to redeem codes for shale and stuff, and lost ALL of my unlocked specializations. ****ing bollocks, I dare say.

I don't see it as cheating at all to get two different Achievements by saving, playing, loading, and playing again.

Also, where the hell do you get Assassin?

I don't think that works, when my main was a mage, I still picked up Reaver there, though I admittedly had already unlocked Blood Mage at that point. Still, I don't think they give you BM.

Thank you very much!   I hadn't figured this out and was stupidly going to pay up....and then waste more gold and time getting the other ones, too.   I feel like such a thief!  Posted Image
