Religious faith pretty much relies on the inability to string logical thoughts together. Together with the fact that their religious texts change by leader and can be interpreted multiple ways, inconsistent behavior becomes a badge of true faith rather than hypocrisy.

So religious folk all share the inability to string logical thoughts together? Well, thanks, I wasn't aware of that. <_<

Go read the God Delusion.

I don't really want to spark a debate about religion or people who believe, but faith does require the suspension of logic quite often.

Actually, some pretty good philosophers have basically proven that logically, god, as commonly believed, cannot exist.

And how is atheism a religion? religion involves worship - what do atheists worship?

Look I wont get into this.
But:
Philosophy as a school always changes, and people dabble into abstract ideas.
No matter what some guy who claims to think deep thoughts says: Its his opionion, you can neither prove nor disprove something you cant measure, touch, smell,or taste.
Gravity is a THEORY one that we are not very sure about even.
Evolution is the supposed way things work even though there are flaws in it.

I dont wish to enter this debate, but man simply lacks the ability to fully comprehend his world, and how it works.

I really like talking about this, but the internet is the LAST place to do it.

Oh, I hate it when people (often my parents) inform me that my religion is atheism. They can't accept that I don't have one, they have to make a lack of belief into a faith. Image IPB

Well, when they're not insisting that I'm Catholic and have no choice about it because I was baptized at three months old. Image IPBImage IPB

And got confirmed when they threatened not to pay for my college education. Image IPBImage IPBImage IPB

But if your position is that God exists and man cannot comprehend Him, shouldn't that be compatible with man not being able to logically prove that He exists? Since He's beyond our comprehension and whatnot?

I love debating this, but it can only be done with a group of people who know each other really well.  This, or any other internet message board, is not the place, I completely agree.

I didnt say god exists either.

Man does have a small view of the world, an no matter how hard we look at things, or try to understand them we still cant fully get it.

We still dont even know how the human brain really works, We have a vague idea, but something as fundamental to a person as their mind and brain, are a mystery to us.

Look up the concept of secular religions and ideologies. Many of the same basis of criticizing religion are frequent elsewhere.

Religious debates are stupid, and aren't they against forum rules?

Please stop.

We're not really debating religion. There's really no need to freak out.

I suppose to tie this whole debate back into the original topic you could agree (as an atheist, agnostic or theist) that believing in a god does not make you crazy. If that was the case then presumably most people in medieval Europe (the closest real life analogue to Ferelden) would have to be classed as crazy, since religious belief was widespread.

So, Leliana's belief in her vision presumably does not make her crazy. At least in my head.

When a scientist uses the word "theory," it means something much, much stronger than when a layperson uses it as as synonym for "hypothesis."

Okay?  Okay.

That made me LOL far too much! Image IPB

Just so: I have no problem with atheism. As long as I am not told that I'm an idiot because I do not "believe" in it.

Atheism isn't a belief, it's a lack of such. Believing in atheism is logically impossible.

See even when we try to avoid it, it starts up anyway.

Cant we all just get along, and ignore what other people believe on the internet?

All the LI have outstanding issues:
Zevran takes a super-human effort to come to love the warden in the end.
Alstair has survivors guilt, and abandonment issues.
Morrigan was raised by an abomination and is horrified that she might just be in love.
Leliana really fits right into this group.

What I love about Leli is that she's a really warm person who shows genuine care for people around her. She is also the only companion who tries to get along with everyone in the group (her rivalry with Morrigan for Warden's affection not taken into account).

Does she have issues? Of course. Just like everyone else. That is what makes her seem human and real.

Very true. The first thing she did after I recruited Loghain was to ask him about stories on King Maric. He couldn't rattle her. Image IPB
