I posted a fairly lengthy post on my blog, giving some details and whatnot on my project. Generally, I like to be semi-silent on the whole affair, but I thought to be somewhat more outgoing at the moment.

Also, I thought I would post a thread here so that maybe some people who are generally not familiar with what I'm, uh, doing can see what's going on. Questions, or what have you, will be answered in good fashion. Thanks for reading! It's weird that, with release "somewhat" coming into view, I have to show more clearly what's going on--it's rather daunting! :wizard:

How long have you been working on this?

2008. :(

I'd like to think I'm careful in my design. Sometimes it takes me quite a long time to decide on a single sentence or encounter. Am I better at this than anyone else?--I doubt it. Realistically, I just have differing standards.

Interesting stuff. That wolf goddess and her theme really reminds me of Amaterasu from Okami who was an awesome character. :)

Wait.

You mean, after all this waiting, I'm finally getting some information on what Shagret is?!?

Holy cow, stop the presses! Thanks, Chaos, I have respected your desire to play 'close to the vest' with your project (as I have hardly even mentioned what I have been doing beyond calling it 'creative play') and have just been patiently waiting to find out more about it.

Looking forward to more.

Yes! Okami is one of my favorite games, and it would be wrong of me to not mention it. I loved that you were a good character in that game and that your good deeds were important for the world. Sometimes I think games are obsessed with villains and evil(not a jab at Kamal or anything, just a note overall) :P

I wanted to make a game that you could be good in--no killing or hurting other people/things--and Okami sort of showed me some ways to do it. If I'm going to spend 3 years on a project, I'd rather do something, be proud of it, and fail rather than be successful and drab.

@ DNO

I know, it happens. I would like to know more about what you're working on, but then again maybe I don't. It could be terrifying, perhaps even evil in some fashion.

Thanks for the support!

And you were good enough to fit in your schedule, the orchestrating of last year's SoZ Expansion project!

Clearly, a lot of work went into this, making it one of the most anticapted campaign releases.

Harumph!

I admire your perseverence and any others who dedicate themselve to long project cycles. I think in the end the quality is improved if you take your time and think about things in the way you clearly do.

Personally I cant be doing with long project cycles (8 months is my limit so far).

Good luck with the last push, June is but a hop and a skip away Posted Image.

I had to be careful! Also, don't you think the tongue emoticon is over the top with your avatar too. :P

@ Dorateen

Yeah, that was a bit hectic. I wanted to do something again this year, but I just was too busy. I *do* have something that *probably* will be ready by this Halloween. No guarantees, though. :x

Thank you for the support. I appreciate it, really.

@ PJ

I didn't think I had it in me, to be honest. I thought for sure I would quit numerous times--almost did, to be honest--but it's slowly, surely coming into view. So much has changed since, I guess, the first draft, that it's sort of hard to say it's even the same game. It's been "playable" for quite some time--9 months or so--but the numerous changes since then are kind of crazy.

Yeah, it is pretty close. haha

Hopefully I'll have the last laugh. Thanks!

Awesome. I've read a couple of your blog posts, and this is looking like it's going to be pretty cool.

EDIT: Just read PJ's post about the release date in June... I forgot you guys wrote dates the wrong way 'round, I thought it was coming in the new year! no wonder I was confused by the "past the grip of winter, and spring" bit. Still, it's nice to have a date for this and 1/2 of a year might seem like a lot of time, but it's better not to rush things.

Been following the blog for quite a while and really like some of the design decisions you seem to be pushing for in the mod (player freedom for one!). Great to hear work is progressing.

Yeah, the "manifesto" at the side is pretty cool. I agree with almost all of those points and hope to make my own mod complicit with a good number of them too. Certainly I approve of bold decisions, even where I don't agree with them a lot of the time, since they do help distinguish a module and make it a bit more interesting.

I can only say I'm trying! Will it work? Who knows. I just know that pretty much *every* conversation has 3+ distinct ways to start that never link up. A never meets B or C, basically. It makes the mod's scope much smaller, but the individual scenes are hopefully better.

@ The Fred

Thanks for the support! I The manifesto was made before a single area/script/etc was even made. I have to have standards before I do anything.

And if Shagret is anything, it's bold decisions. It should be done, really(!), but too many things have spun out of control. I appreciate the kind words. I hope to return the favor in kind. :)

You, sir, are persistant.  I applaud your dedication.  I am quite a perfectionist too, although I don't agonize over dialogue as much as other things such as mountains.  I love mountains and spend hours on them.  Oh yeah, scripting too.  I like to just script the hell out of stuff, sometimes just for the sake of seeing if I can do it.  Usually those endeavors end with a cry for help on the scripting boards!

Anyway, good on you for sticking with it and I am eagerly wainting the release.  'Course, I haven't even finished the new releases yet.

Persistent isn't the half of it. I made so many 90% finished mods for NWN1 that I was like, "It's time to make something and, well, stick to it." I felt obligated to do something to give back to all the lovely content creators who, for the most part, slave away in obscurity.

And there's a few scripted sequences I'm sure people will be pleasantly surprised with(say no more, say no more). :P

Hats off for putting yourself under pressure like this, Chaos - I wouldn't have the guts. But that said, I'm sure Shagret will be great, I always loved the stuff I've seen in your gallery. I'll keep watching the blog.

Thank you. At this point, all but 1 exterior is done...so, really, I'm pretty happy. Area design is, apparently, a strong point of mine, so I like to keep a plethora of screenshots available. I'm glad they're appreciated.

I don't suppose you're going to tell us what Shadret is actually *about* at any time, are you...?

Incidentally, you're the very first (and second and third) thing a Google search of the word "Shagret" brings up so no mysteries solved there... :-)

My first mod ever, "Shagret's Treasure", was constructed many years ago. Its villainous foe had to be stopped at all costs, and the good people of the world had to band together to stop this threat. A standard adventure, you might say.

But what if the villain won? I'd like to think, in some way, this is the coda to a different song entirely.

Aaaaah... Hmmm...
I shall stroke my beard* chin and nod knowingly.
Actually I'm not going to read too much into this (given how secretive you've been being, who knows what the truth is?), but I like what you're hinting at.

'Tis a shame you'vn't enuff facial hair to call a beard. When we meet the dwarves, let me do the talking. It may not be a full Dwarven beard, but by human terms, it's quite respectably large.

I too am challenged in the beard stakes but I have a little stubble right now so I shall stoke that instead.

What would it be like if the bad guy won? Kind of depends on if he was really bad or not. We all interpret other peoples actions through our own filters and we can't always see the outcome when have only part pf the story.

Of couse he may just have been plain evil so I'm thinking darkness ... lots of darkness.
