I've done a bunch of playthroughs, and nearly almost always leave Thane at the Line.  When Shep calls back to see how things are going, he answers.

Once I took Thane, and this time, Jack answered with a pretty funny comment about being busy stuffing the Collectors into body bags.

There must be a list of these quotes, somewhere?
