Somehow, i missed the "Lamppost" dialogue with Alistair on my last playthrough.
How's that possible? Is there something specific that triggers that dialogue? Or did I "skid past it" because Alistair's approval went too high too fast?

The same thing happened with Shale's "open doors for you" dialogue after the personal quest. Weird.

Did you completely miss the "So, since you were raised in the Chantry, have you ever...?" line to initiate the dialog? If so, it's most likely because you moved so quickly into him joining you in your tent that it never showed up.

Sorry, Alistair is not romanceable for me. At least not without a sixpack of beer...
Yes, that whole dialogue didn't happen this time.

I always got this dialogue fairly early, after learning of Alistair's true father. A those points his approval with me was pretty high (warm), but not too high. I think you should first talk to him about Arl Eamon and his childhood. It's possible this dialogue option appears after completing the Goldanna quest (it did in my games). You should choose the "I want to talk to you about something personal" option to see it. That's all I know, anyway.

I get it fairly early, even before his personal quest, but only as a female warden (but then I may just have not noticed it as a male as I was not looking for it) trying to start a romance with him.

It's there for the guys too but I've always had him cut it off halfway through as if suddenly embarrassed about his chantry cherry.

Ok, a couple of things. It is not under "personal" conversation -- it's normal conversation, for both males and females.

You can also have this conversation with him WITHOUT him asking if you've ever licked a lamppost. You have to actually not tell him what you're talking about direction -- if you say you're talking about sex, he'll be like, "Oh, THAT'S what we're talking about," and you don't get the lamppost line.

You won't get it if you've had sex with him before asking about it. You also have to be at least warm, but you'll get it at friendly, adore, and love as well as long as you haven't had sex.

Edit: Here's how to avoid getting the "lamppost" line in that conversation.

Alistair: Never...? Never what? Had a good pair of shoes?
Warden: Sex?

(If Female): Ohhh, so that's what we're talking about. I admit I've never had a woman just... come out and ask me like this, that's for sure.
(If Male): Oh-hhh, so that's what we're talking about. Well, if you really want to know, you tell me first.

Skips right over the lamppost line.

Yes, and if you tell him you've had plenty of it, he's REALLY embarassed.

Strange, I DID have the sex/lamppost talk on my first two playthroughs, but on my current playthrough I had neither "sex" nor "lamppost"... I was looking forward to it but it didn't happen.

EDIT: I just reloaded an old savegame from my current playthrough, and, right after visiting Redcliffe for the first time and before the Urn quest, there it is. Weird... I was sure I had skipped it somehow... (funny seeing "myself" in tier 2 leather armor, btw...)
