Dragon Age isn't just about Ferelden. A lot of stuff is going on in Thedas, and BioWare wants us to experience the most important parts of it. Instead of reading about it in a codex entry.
Exactly. Fereldan was where the major darkspawn conflicts of the age, the Blight and Architect, took place; that's why we were a grey warden in Fereldan.

Do you even realize that 75% of sequels have a different protagonist?
It's DRAGON AGE, not THE WARDEN.
It's like saying KOTOR isn't a Star Wars story because Vader wasn't in it

Thank you Soteria! I'm not entirely sure why some people think that DA2 is a sequel to Origins. It's not.soteria wrote...
It's a small thing, but I think I found the root of your problem. You think it's DAO2. It's not. It's DA2.
If they make a sequel later on, then I'm all for it. But Dragon Age 2 isn't it.

But what if down the road it does just that.
See right here we have Dragon Age: Origins, then the sequel Dragon Age 2. Then imagine the next game being DAO2
So it would be
Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age 2
Dragon Age: Origins 2
It sounds silly but it happens all the time
Metal Gear
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2, and so on
Half-Life
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2: Episode 1
Half-Life 2: Episode 2... half-life 2...2
Call of Duty 2
Call of Duty 3
Call of Duty 4
Call of Duty: World at War
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2... Call of Duty 4...2
Final Fantasy 10
...Final Fantasy 10 2 (X2)
Now I am seriously hoping for silly and confusing naming conventions and am rooting for a Dragon Age: Origins 2 or Dragon Age 3 Origins 2 or Super Dragon Age Origins

Why call it DA2 then?
... but then again, I don't consider Fallout 3 a real sequel to Fallout 1 and 2 neither.

But then...It would be the sequel. I think what a lot of people aren't getting is that this is from a different angle..not picking up where you left off on Origins..although, that would be pretty awesome. But you have a great point(with examples!)Onyx Jaguar wrote...

Because it uses the dragon age setting? Because it has similar gameplay? Because it's a continuation of the same story in another part of the world? Pick your favorite.

I sorta panicked when I heard that DA2 was not going to be about the warden whom I became very fond with. But I moved on.
Hawke and his/her story will be awesome as well as the warden's.

Jesus, I had no idea that Dave was the forum's designated funny guy who always had to deliver at every turn or else. Unless he seems to be losing touch with sanity, how can his posts get worse? Damn, I hope you don't hold anyone else up to that kind of light.

Cool, does this make the Might and Magic series the sequel to Heroes of Might and Magic series or the other way around? What about Command & Conquerer and Renegade?

I agree. =) I just hope that some of the storyline will intertwine.Hellosanta wrote...
Dragon Age series are about Thedas(possible even more than Thedas since Thedas is 'a continent in the southern Hemisphere) in Dragon age. Definitely, it's not about Grey Wardens in Ferelden only.

Those games play fundamentally different than their counterparts
Dragon Age is still an overhead/behind the shoulder perspective stat manipulation game
