I for sure say no.

I really do not get the obsession with so many people so badly wanting Shep to have a child in the game... I see people begging for this everywhere. We are not playing The Sims.

People seem to think Shepard has to have a child in order to be fulfilled and satisfied in the end or something, or apparently their relationship with their LI is for nothing if they do not produce a child in the end.

What would having a child bring? Seriously, what would it add to the story? Nothing at all...

I like the character development that plays out when pursuing a love interest in the game, it opens up a lot about the characters involved. But having a kid? That would just be absolutely terrible.

Only way I would consider being ok with Shepard having a kid in anyway, is if maybe LONG AFTER Shep has retired/passed on, someone somewhere decides to clone Shep or make a test tube baby with Sheps genetics because of some crazy idea that Shep has something special and utterly unique about him/her and that doing so will make another strong hero in Sheps place that can save the galaxy from a new threat (pretty classic sci-fi trope.)

This way my Shep doesn't need to deal with the bearing and raising of that genetic offshoot and can focus on much more IMPORTANT things in her life time.

this. shepard does not need kids to define him/her-self. nor does anyone in RL for that matter.

i play games to get away from real-world concerns like kids, so keep them out of mass effect!

Why is it that every 1 month.....this thread will resurface....?

Should I keep a lookout for the Tali/Shepard Child or the Garrus/Shepard Child ones next?

No thanks. Mass Effect is game about galaxy war. Not about simulating relationships and family.

I find it difficult to care. But I probably wouldn't mind much; it might be a nice scene.

Was going to rant but you said everything I was going to say , the bolded part I still don't ever want mentioned in game though (even though Cerberus making a shepard 2.0... sounds like something they would do) If I ever hear  my shepard talking about actually having  BAYBEES in game I will put my controller down, the media is baby obsessed enough already I don't want something awesome like mass effect resorting the most predictable and over used plot in history (you know a series has run out of ideas when over half the characters get preggers). I don't want another thing I enjoy succumbing to the same boring, uninspired, monotonous drivel that I see EVERYWHERE else!

Are you gonna go against Shepard?

Everything I see on this board is complaining that there are no hard choices in Mass Effect 2.  Add in a child and then a decision to kill either the child or the LI and bam you got a hard decision.

Though I assume that most of those complaints are from people who just like complaining.

I for one do not want contrived, cliched nonsense like "your mate or your child, dun dun dun!" in any game I play, or hell in any story I read or watch.  Image IPB

Do you mean in real life? Because the gap between ME2 and ME3 is so long that I actually might think about spending some time with my gf?

That wouldn't work for people who had no LI.

And the people that killed the Rachni queen don't get to see the rachni in ME3.  The whole series is built on the decisions you make.  And making the decision to have unprotected sex can lead to a child.(I say unprotected because I can't recall ever buying a condom for Shepard).

Oh good gravy.  I'm sure there's a place in some game for having to remember to have your character use birth control.  That place, however, is not in the same ZIP code, area code, state, country, or continent as ME1, ME2, or ME3.  This isn't a life-sim game.

Just remember that the odds of there being babies may dwindle if you try to paint her blue or make her wear a helmet...

Oh for sure, I am not saying that is what I WANT to see happen in game, just saying that it may be the only way I MIGHT be ok with there being Shep offspring, but still would like it to be left alone.

Agree about the media being baby obsessed and everyone being all about baby bumps, and weird baby names and the like, its insane and i would rather not deal with it in my favorite game series.

The baby obsession of the media is regrettable, especially if it takes away enjoyment from what could be a rather good story ending... ah well. Fanfic may be better for this.

Not possible with with my Shep she's a Garrus girl. Image IPB

Anyway, I agree that it should be player choice and only happen post game. I mean come on Shep's got enough crap to worry about.

This is just something I was thinking about, if enough time passes between ME2 and ME3 it is believable that Shepard either has a child or one of the LIs.  Well I guess the only possible way for it to happen would be either in a Jacob/Shepard or Jack/Shepard relationship.

It couldn't work between ME1 and ME2 with Shepard dying and because it wouldn't have been fair if male shepard has a child with Ashley and female shepard dies and so does her child.  But with ME3 and hopefully no dying in the time between games it can happen.

If done well, I'd say sure.

As to female Shepard and Kaiden, well, as Miranda proved, there's always the "genetic twin" option, which could make her Shep's daughter Image IPB

This is a fanfic concept it should stay that way...Besides some romances would be impossible for kids ie Quarians, Turians, or possibly coming in 3 Krogans the player would have zero kids I guess some want a kid so they can be like ME continuation

I always found the concept dumb A great hero has a kid and that kid too becomes a great hero! Give it a few generations would you? You don't need two heroes in the family right off I like how fable has done it in 1 & 2 the hero was way back in your family line and the new hero has many generations separating him/her from said hero.

Please, not this. Romance with Kaidan is already complicated enough. "Hey Kaidan, I've missed you so much that even genetically engineered our daughter!"
Won't mind if he'll suggest Shepard to make family "after it all will end". Not before

God, no.

Off-handed mention in an epilogue most could probably tolerate. Otherwise, just... no.

Dear Reaper Fleet,

Hey guys, it's me; FemShep. Look, this isn't easy and I know we've had our differences but would you mind holding off on the galactic invasion thing? I'm going to be on mat leave and well, quite frankly it's hard to find a sitter in my line of work. I'd be really, really gratefull if we could just sideline this whole dealyo for a little bit and pick up where we left off once Timmy is in school.

Sincerely,

FemShep

I know we want to see some children in the mass effect universe, but they don't have to be shepard's children. Any tough choice that involves a child seems like a low blow to me coughDAcough. It also wouldn't make any sense for femshep especially, as pol have mentioned.

I have to admit, i'm kind of leaning towards the pro-children route, but as a distinct choice made in me3 with your LI, as an epilogue mention. Everyone here seems to think the only way shep could have kids is during the height of the reaper invasion, which, to me atleast, is completly illogical.
