I am pretty sure the elf+human=human thing does come up in the game or at least in the codex, so this would require a change in the lore.
There can be many explanations why this is that way. For example the different appearance of elfs and humans could originate from a spell that the rulers of Arlathan cast to ensure that the pure bloodness of the inhabitans of the elfen kingdom. Because so every child with other than two elfen parents would not show elfen traits. This is just one possible explanation there are several others that don´t conflict with the lore and the setting.
sure, no offence at all but i'm sure Bioware can do a better job coming up with a reason of some sort. Something like "we totally meant to do it that way" and nobody could challange them because they wrote it.

Half-elves would require a ret-con. It's pretty clear in the lore (specifically the novels) that the result of elves and humans mating are humans. It wouldn't be as simple a matter as "hey, we have half-elves now!". There'd also be the issue of explaining or discounting previously confirmed acpects of the world.
Then again, doesn't mean they should be avoided either. My personal preference is, however, the less the better
I was highlighting the fact that they'd have to retcon the whole reason why the elves and humans went to war.

Huh. I thought women liked that boy. Aw well, back on topic! I imagine, the next party member BW introduces will be an elf. Likely a dalish elf, considering the dalish origins story. I wonder what he or she will be like? I would like another old-timer like Wynne. Except instead of being all serene and maternal, I want a grouchy old potty mouthed bastard that pretend's to hate your guts. Not because you're human but because you're young and stupid in his opinion.
Jolee is that you?
I think the bit of history GodWood is referring to there is the original conflict between the elves and the Tevinter Imperium, back when elves were still immortal. As humans rose up on Thedas, the elves began to lose their mortality and then were subjugated to slavery. It all went downhill for the elves from there. They can't even hope to regain their numbers now by mating with other races because their genetic code is recessive and they have already lost their immortality so, it's just a matter of trying to avoid extinction now.

Oh! Alright, yes, that I understand. Although I think the results of interbreeding were less important to the withdrawal of elves from human society (and the ensuing war) than the loss of immortality, which I think would still stand even if there were half-elves (though I'm not exactly sure about that). But I see what you're getting at.GodWood wrote...

Sith: "Do you have any idea how many Sith are on this planet?"
Jolee: "12? No wait, 13!"
Sorry to go off-topic but he is one of my favourite Bioware companions

I want and Elf party member. Whatever kind. But I'm not really into the old cranky Elves. I'm thinking like a young Elf, maybe a little nieve. Wanting to go out and explore, adventure and make a name for themselves and finds Hawke as a mentor. then you can mold them to be good/Evil little Eflings.
Eh, that was sort of what happened with Allister. Maybe it's me and my particularly michevious childhood but, every now and again, I find it hilarious to be called '******' by an old person.

Sweet! Another character to ignore and leave at camp for the whole game!

Wow you think so? I was thinking young elf, with much uncontrolled power. The potential and the willingness to do great things is there but they need someone to lead them, to show them how to act and the best way to be a hero/villain. They would have their own personality, i'm not talking somebody that just follows you around but someone who is impressed and influenced by Hawkes actions and deeds and always itching for more.
I'm sure they will already have plenty of "incredible forces" and "immovable objects" of characters as it were. With stong wills, but I would like a young impressionable elf to mold. I think it would be fun.

could be something with a twist, an elf that can live so long can either be hateful of humans like zathrian or actually perceive humans as an interesting race to observe.

I never paid attention to what she was saying. Me and Ogrhen were, for once, of one mind.

Though an Arlathan elf would be interesting but I doubt we'll see one. Perhaps a Dalish who is seeking Arlathan?
