Still waiting on GoG for those Polish vo's. Doesn't feel right playing in English.
Heh... I died/reloaded a lot in such a short piece of the tale!!! Until I figured out how to do it and then it was a breeze. So easy I felt stupid for not realizing it sooner. One word: Quen Sign... well, two words!
P.S.: I liked the English version of TW1 better than the Polish. Not understanding a word they say really bugs me. I worked so hard to learn my English! =) (And I would hate a Portuguese vo's! That might work for Medieval Maritime Conquest games... not for fantasy Sword&Cape)

Not that I'm particularly surprised but that reviewer really had it out for DA2. Although I was quite surprised that of all the things he chose to criticise of DA2 in a TW2 review he chose customisation of the player character. I mean, TW2 is a great game but they are seriously restricted by the source material in requring you to not only play a set character but also be unable to vary his appearance (or make 'him' a her for that matter).
Don't get me wrong, TW2 is obviously an incredible game, but that bit seemed kinda daft.
Agreed.
Honestly, that last bit of "is it better than..." always makes me cringe on the gamesradar reviews. This particular one was just extra daft. "I hate X game for limiting player customization! Oh, but Y game that has ZERO player customization is great!" ... jeez.
I guess it depends on what you want to take away as player customization though too. Sure, you can't change Geralt's face or gender, but you can play him in different ways, like actually being able to talk people down without inevitably going into combat *cough* DA2*cough* and you have tons of armor/loot to utilize and have tons of skills to build Geralt as you level up in pretty different ways.

Pretty much this. I'm also surprised a review mentioned it was more tactical than DA2, I can't work that one out. I'm only about 2 hours into TW2 and it's good. Really good. Its got a surprisngly high learning curve, I struck a couple of different bugs and I have concerns about game balance like the invulnerability sign. But for a small studio it is pretty obvious they have put a huge amount of "love" into the game and the story and world seem incredibly immersive. And the gameplay is fun despite some frustrations and suspiscions of underlying imbalance.Apollo Starflare wrote...

Seeing that 10 makes it all the more gutting that Skyrim is coming out this year really. TW2 definitely deserves GotY or 'Best RPG' recognition, but I just can't see it happening (at least from most) unless Bethesda seriously mess up with Skyrim.
The one thing I really disagree with in your post is Skyrim. I didn't like the previous two games and won't be getting it. The lack of focus on story combined with terribly imbalanced game system just doesn't grip me at all.

Let's not forget DA2 is much more linear compared to Witcher 2 or DA:O. Not that it makes it any less of an rpg but I like my games non-linear.
Best song on Witcher 2 OST - The Wild Hunt Just pure win.

Dude, that's like... also in DA2! Maybe there are less skills or armors to choose from, but it's there... in no small amount.
Eh, but I don't want to get into a DA2 vs TW2 argument on this thread. Let the TW2 love continue.

From what I can tell quite a few have fallen into the trap of not realising that TW2 actually makes use of Quen/Axii/Yrden, as opposed to the first game where even on higher levels they were rarely required. This is a big improvement if you ask me, I made a point of using Quen and Axii a fair bit in TW1 anyway just because I liked the idea of them, so glad to hear they are actually needed now (even on Normal).
I played through to Act 3 of TW1 with English VA and consider my change to the Polish VA one of the best decisions I made in that game. I've heard mixed reports regarding the English VA in TW2 so far so I'm not holding my breath that I won't be making use of the Polish once again yet. Not that it bothers me, I find it little different to watching a foreign film. I love the Polish word for Witcher as well.

Aha, well, while it's true I'm a big Elder Scrolls fan that point was made more in regards to how the various critics of the world will see things. Oblivion did insanely well come awards season, despite being criticised for much the same reasons you give there by many (including myself), I don't see it being any different for Skyrim should it capture the imaginations of the gaming world in the same way. It just has massive weight behind it's name.
But we'll see, considering how it has stormed onto the scene this year in particular TW and CDP could come away with a good few awards, which would certainly be yet more welcome exposure for a still relatively young dev.

Fable III is all combat, no story and armor only changes your look adds nothing to gameplay.
What with all these ponies recently!
@Apollo Starflare Honestly I think Oblivion won just because it's from Bethesda. Same reason CoD wins awards. It's not exactly good but EVERYONE has it. I'll be getting Skyrim because Bethesda always make the best games for modding. I really hope Witcher 2's editior isn't as limited like in Witcher 1.

I do have a couple minor gripes that I would hope to see maybe addressed in a patch. One being highlighting items on the ground, the other, allowing the player to remap movement keys.

Sounds like the same guy to me too. Kind of reassuring to have a similar sound between games.
I have recognised a few actors that I think were in DA or DA2 in the Witcher 2 though. The viscounts little snooty assistant is just about every third guy (or at least it sounds like him) Vernon Roche sounds familiar as does Cedric, I think. Cedric sounds kind of like Cullen...kinda.
I actually played longer than I should have tonight trying to place the voices. Could be from something totally different, but all of them rang a bell. Giving up though, I have to be up in 4+ hours
