After finally getting to spend a couple solid hrs with it, I'm really impressed. So far, the biggest drawbacks are the drop in framerate during battles and the lack of in-game settings. But man, the presentation of the game is amazing. I just loved that camp and all the rowdy soldiers' banter. I may prefer Polish, but the English vo's are so much improved over the first, right up there with Bioware's. And I can't believe how good the environments look on med-low settings. The amulet used as a loot finder is a clever idea too.

I took Thursday off work just so I could dig into the game this weekend. :wizard:

Truly a labor of love, this amazing sequel fortifies the foundations laid down by a flawed classic and creates a brilliant masterpiece. Visceral combat, dizzying player customization and a truly immersive story all come together to create one of the best role-playing experiences of the year.

Hmm going to be difficult to decide which VA to choose from for me then. The amulet thing is a cool addition, I really liked the way it shook when you were near magic or monsters in TW1 (ahh "Raymond") but it was severely underused, this is a nice way to incorporate that further into the game.

I don't know why everyone disses the
English VO for Geralt in the first one.  I liked it.  Sounds like the
same guy to me in TW2.

Yeah I seem to remember reading somewhere that it's the same guy. They had most of the main cast return, which I'm sure pleased the hardcore fans of the first game. To be fair, while the VA of TW1 gets a lot of stick (particularly the English dub) I found the main characters weren't too bad on the whole. I actually have a soft spot for Gerlat's VA in particular, he has that Clive Owen-type drawl to his voice that fits how I imagine Geralt quite nicely.

I imagine a fair few people dislike that because of it's percieved lack of emotion however? I know many people have the same complaint of Owen. His Polish VA was good for the same reasons.

I have recognised a few actors that I think were in DA or DA2 in the Witcher 2 though.    The viscounts little snooty assistant is just about every third guy  (or at least it sounds like him)  Vernon Roche sounds familiar as does Cedric, I think.  Cedric sounds kind of like Cullen...kinda.

The guy interrogating you in prison is a Dragon Age VA, I think.

TW2 has no imdb page so I can't check.

I gave up for the night, too.  I'm going to have to play this on a weekend when I have more marbles.  It's not, as the Games Radar guy said, pants-on-your-head easy.  lol

Does anyone know what the "Supplementary English voice overs" DLC contains? I mean the English voices are working fine for me and it still wants to download 1gb of data. Are there sections of the game that don't have voice over?

Help much appreciated. :)

Ughh... honestly my least favorite part of the Witcher - and yes, I know it's his job - is the monster slaying. You can hear my yawns during these quests in the next county.

It's like they stuck the Vizima swamp - that prevents me from ever replaying TW1 - right in the beginning again in Flotsam.

my laptop won't even let me play TW2. might be because it can't handle the awesome of it.

Just make sure you've adjusted settings enough so that the camera doesn't lag during combat. That makes targeting and blocking a real ****. The target lock feature comes in handy as well I've found. I'm unsure if there's a logic to sword combos and what effects they may have, but I keep trying to time my strikes - fast, strong, fast; fast, fast, strong - much like I would in playing SF4. I don't know if I'm on the right track or not, but I do know I'll get more involved with alchemy next session. I want to poison people.

Has anyone beaten the Kayran beast yet? I'm stuck on the damnable thing. Anyone got any helpful tips?

This game is fantastic! Not only is the combat fluid & tactical, it manages to maintain "weight" to it. Dialog is well done, the choice..oh wow. I've been able to talk my way out of fights, and feel like I'm truly influencing what's going on. And its very pretty. So far I'm enjoying it, and the challenge, mixing in signs, blocks and counters, and timing it all out is quite well done imo.

I do have a couple minor gripes that I would hope to see maybe addressed in a patch. One being highlighting items on the ground, the other, allowing the player to remap movement keys.

Yeah, like Apollo said, it's cool that we can have a good use of all signs. I did built some Quen/Axii/Yard Witcher on the first game for the fun of it... like a Paladin with Conversion/Thorns early in Diablo 2.. lots of minions converted and killing themselves... hehe

I think you can remap all keys through the launcher/video&language/Input settings - I did changed some keys to suit my gaming style like the quick menu to Space and a couple of commands to my mouse buttons 4 & 5.

And Quen wears off pretty fast at at the beginning of the game with no talents spent on it when they hit us strong enough. And that's on Normal diff. I really wouldn't dare a Hard, specially Insane diffs right now. Must learn more! Unlike some games where Hardcore mode means only losing char but no significant difficulty increase from Hard diff, Insane description says it is harder than Hard which must be harder than Normal which is a good challenge for the first run!

A few things that bothered me in TW1 are still present in TW2. The game has a real poor save game management. I don't like stuffing my HD with unecessary files and manually delete old saves but at least they're small (2MB) compared to those of TW1 (17MB). A distracted player could lose an HD with TW1 by having no space left on it, if that's still an issue in these days. Used to be a couple of decades ago but since then I made sure I always have tons of space and 3TB still feels not enough to me.. hehe

Also the inability to use Hotkeys to navigate the game menus. Need to ESC from (I)nventory to access ©haracter Developement, for instance, when it's so natural to just go from one menu directly to the other with the respective HotKey and, contrairily to TW1, we cannot pick the dialogue with a number, although Arrow keys + the Accept/Dodge key works.

Please tell me you are kidding. There is a new 'swamp' section? :( I hated that bit so much in Chapter 2, I was so thrilled that it was over and that I would never be going ba- Gods damnit CD Projekt.

With that said the actual monster slaying quests in TW1 I had little issue with, they were generally quite well designed so that you came across the creatures naturally on your travels I thought? Was just a pain in the rear whenever those travels involved the swamp.

At least they give you a decent reward if you do all the trophy kills, I doubt that has changed in 2. I hate doing a long winded quest like that and only getting money or xp, sure it's handy but you want something flashy for going through all that effort.

Its not a swamp there. Its a beautiful forest that is  surrounded by lakes and the city is more like a large trade post.

I loved the swamp.  One of the most immersive outdoor environments I've ever seen in a game.  Posted Image

My problem with it was there were way too many Drowners, but they were easy to outrun if you needed to. I really liked the caves in the swamp though.

That's it? The drowners? The only reason I might find that area slightly annoying, is that cannibal repeatedly shouting "Enough! I've had enough!"

Also, there are repelling talismans for those pesky drowners when you're really sick of them. I love the Swamp and grouping them all together for a massive display of Group Style Awesomeness! =)

I don't care how bloody immersive it is.

I don't like mindless monster killing. I do like the intrigue and human/squirrel stuff. The swamp, and all the quests currently in my journal in Flotsam demand I kill monsters. If people like that it's fine.

I just view it as the annoying parts I have to grit my teeth through to get to the interesting stuff.

I get that. Even though a Witcher is genetically modified specifically to do just that - slay monsters(but not dragons, apparently). BTW, has anyone beaten the Kayran yet? I'm really having trouble with that. Anyone got some helpful tips?

You could kill the canibal and argueably be morally right in doing so.

Yeah I get thats what Witchers are for, but if the game was about only that, or almost exclusively that, I simply wouldn't bother playing it.

Then I think you may wnat to wait for some sort of mod that skips all the monster hostiles, and just has Iorweth, the Kingslayer, King Foltest and such.
