Has anyone beaten the Kayran beast yet? I'm stuck on the damnable thing. Anyone got any helpful tips?
Kite it. (jokes)
Have you done all the quests to bolster yourself- ostmurk etc?
Otherwise, it's actually very simple. *spoiler* Start by trapping the tentacles with yrden and hacking them off with silver sword. (I just can't bring myself to spoil it further after that - because I'm annoyed at how you actually win.)
Edit: Mmm. I just edited that. It was only a tiny spoiler, but I do hate spoilers.

On another note. Has any non Aussie has the 2nd sex scene with Triss yet? I have a question.
Thanks a bunch!

Don't install it if you have English VO already. Those files are for versions that don't come with English option by default.AfricanWoolf wrote...
Does anyone know what the "Supplementary English voice overs" DLC contains? I mean the English voices are working fine for me and it still wants to download 1gb of data. Are there sections of the game that don't have voice over?
Help much appreciated.

Story and characters just aren't very interesting to me. That isn't to say there wasn't a lot to like, I just wasn't compelled to see any more of it.
I'd compare it to There Will Be Blood, a great, exceedingly well made movie that I barely got through and would never watch again simply because I wasn't hooked by anything or anyone in it.

Why would someone who likes BioWare want to besmirch BioWare's name?
edit: oh wait, we're not talking about the one named DavidGaider.

Did you finish TW1? If you did, you know how much of a drag the earlier parts are. After that it really, really gets good. My advice: just keep doing vodka shots, keep it on Easy, and bear with it. You probably won't regret it afterwards. And hey, you'll be too drunk NOT to enjoy yourself.

In terms of accomplishing what it sets out to and as objectively as I can evaluate the parts of it I did get through, I'd say it is superior to DA2 in a number of significant ways, although it isn't without its own minor annoyances such as targeting. But none of those were reasons I stopped playing.
There's a difference between "this is horrible and I hate it" and "meh... yawn, I'm falling asleep."

Yeah I did, and the only reason I managed was that there was nothing else on my gaming plate at the time.
It's just dawning on me that Geralt and the world of the Witcher just isn't for me. And there's LA Noire sitting right over there in the other room to play instead.

If you - generally speaking, as an audience - don't find characters or a premise compelling, you won't be interested in seeing them develop.
I'm all for slow moving; Rubicon was so slow moving it had less than a million viewers on AMC and got canceled, yet I loved it. And The Wire is one of my favorite shows ever, and that's pretty meandering too. But I cared, and that was the difference.
That being said before I go too negative, there is nothing I saw - in a major way - that was genuinely wrong with TW2. The localization left a lot to be desired in terms of VA, but that's pretty much to be expected. Otherwise, top notch all around really.

Perhaps so. A shame, really. Maybe you can find interest in it once you've finished LA Noire. No wait, I forgot. Skyrim, ME3 and Deus Ex: HR are all coming out soon. Looks like you won't be able to enjoy TW2 after all.

Er... I don't know if that would be a good investment. The Premium('regular') edition already has most of the freebies(Making-of documentary, Soundtrack CD, map, Game Guide, coin). The only real bonus you'd get from the Collector's Edition is the Artbook(nice, but worth $70 more?) and the Geralt bust(which, from what I've heard, often gets chipped/damaged during shipping).zazally wrote...

This is a fraking computer game series! And The Witcher 1 is one of the best of its genre! I replayed it many times, always trying something new, always a different path, until my final run where I chose exactly what I wanted to import into TW2, which is a milestone in the history of games. Mark my words. You'll see what game will be talked about in 10 years... Origins, probably and definitely, The Witcher.
Combat in TW1 is awesome on Hard diff when we're required to do a bit more than just monster killing. We actually have to study what the monsters are and how to defeat them! Damn that Archspore in the swamp on my first run... almost made me quit the game for good. I insisted and eventually I felt like a real Master Witcher when I could kill it 10 levels before that I had on my 1st run and much easier too. Same with almost every monster in the game. What a pain in the first run, what a satisfaction when I mastered the game!
And I tell you, if the combat was that bad, the game would not gain the reputation it did. After all, it is still a game and not a book or movie! Sure some people can't help but dislike it but not everyone likes the same stuff. Heck, there are people who hates chocolate!
