Indeed. The Witcher caters to a niche market and is only on PC.
You know, I've started wondering whether this kind of game could have more mainstream appeal just for being true to what it is. It's not everything to everyone but it does what it does really well, if you know what I mean.
IMO, the interface feels designed for gamepad (compared to TW1, anyway.) They are releasing it on consoles. When? Not sure, but I thought it was a matter of months.
Personally, I'd wish it great success on console, because it feels enough old school/PC to me.
(Also, why am I discussing this here? Why is their forum still down?)
I hope it doesn't have mainstream appeal. Thats what liked about the first one.
About the UI, I like the mainscreen UI so far. It's minimal and I have no issues with that. The list inventories may well get old though. I need more time in-game to tell, but it seems functional so far.

Hahahah, you're screwed.
How's LA Noire btw?
My PS3 doesn't get a lot of solo gaming time, but I've been following this one for a while.

Don't get too cocky peeps. Bioware still owns CDPR any day of the week and I'm sure DA2 will outsell TW2.
Sadly, that is true. Catering to the mass market and all that.
Still, we all know where the superior quality lies, aye?
Witcher 1 PC sales numbers were at 1.2 million around march 2009 time and Witcher 1 was a new IP game from a then small unknown easter european developer.
I can see Witcher 2 breaking 2 million, maybe even outselling DA2, and that's a PC exclusive vs multiplatform game.
Keep dreaming son.

I couldn't find the info I was looking for on Google, so I'm hoping I can get what I am looking for here, since TW2 has interested me.
I borrowed TW1 to see what it would be like, only to find out it wasn't really my game. So I gave it back to the person I lent it from. I couldn't find the info I was looking for on Google.

Depends on how well this sells though. CDP didn't have the resources or manpower to develop a console version simultaneously. Even if they start now I daresay it may take at least a year.mrcrusty wrote...
If Witcher 2 goes to consoles, it's possible. As a PC exclusive? I doubt it.

They did start a Witcher 1 console version but it didn't live up to their standards so they cancelled it. Actually Witcher 1 on console was going to use the RED Engine.

Foltest... I was expecting that. In "Something Ends, Something Begins", even if not canon, Ada is already queen. That video felt more emotional than anything from DA2. Up there with some moments from Oringins and the MEs.

My other complaint would be dialogue. Imho, it's not very engaging and the voice over is so bland, not compelling at all. Say what you will about DAII but voice over work was brilliant in it.
Very true.
Tw2 is simply *gorgeous* though. When you get killed because you are looking at the pretty plants, and trees moving in the wind. Or forget your quest because you get enthralled when you pass a bit too close to a table and knock a candle off, which goes out leaving the place a bit darker.... THAT is cool though.
It is a surprisingly plush game. The *one* area I am not especially thrilled with is the facial animation. And *some* of the voice actors falls flat ( some others sound a lot like DA or DA2 actors though )
I remember seeing one of the trailers where Iorveth meets the kingslayer and being utterly impressed with some aspect of the cinematic, I think it was where Iorveth was sneeking around a corner and the way he stepped across himself and he actually stepped externally on his foot rolling over, so realistically.... I was so impressed with that I decided to look more seriously into animation myself. The reality in the game in some places is fantastic, other times.....like facial acting... eyebrow raising, but it just keeps it more modest rather than ruining it, really.
Being a male character ( for me as a female) works for me because the story and surround makes me easily feel like I *am* Geralt. The prologue was great and based only on it and the first chapter I am on, I could easily recommend it. It doesn't mean it is perfect, but it is a quality game, worthy of the $$$. The voice acting IS better than the first though. And the environment is plush. Combat is meh. So far anyway. I guess the only reason I would start caring about the combat is if the story and environments got so boring that I had to find solace in how I fight. I don't so far.

So, anything about Yennefer? About the only thing I didn´t like from TW1 was that the writers seemed Geralt - Triss shippers.

Yes, Yennefer is mentioned a few times in the prologue. (But said to be dead)

I believe the inkeeper in Act IV (TW1) recites the whole story with no names mentioned, so no surprise there.

Geralt is also supposed to be dead. And Ciri took their bodies to the same place.
I guess my canon game will be a non romance one. Kind of ironic with this game, but I don´t like Triss much.

I myself greatly dislike Triss, and will be importing a Shani save. It will be very satisfying to avoid the whole romance BS that the developers so desperately try to shove in the player's face.

Well, it really depends on why it wasn't really your sort of game? Care to be more specific?
It has much higher production values this time around, running on a very high end engine of their own design. The combat has been re-imagined to be less about rhythem/turns and more of a traditional action RPG slash your way to victory - but with tactical elements such as the returning magical signs and whatnot. Alchemy also helps put it a step above some similarly styled action RPGs.
It's the same sort of storytelling though, with a lot of the main cast of voice actors returning it seems. You still play as Geralt of Rivia with little customisation of your characters appearance, however they have improved the leveling up process to allow for greater variety: you can't buy everything this time around. It is also just as 'mature' as TW1 with nudity, swearing and copious violence. The game does handle the sex a bit more tastefully this time around however, with the 'sex cards' being ditched in favour of cutscenes.
Check out some gameplay vids on youtube, it has three launch trailers alone and a bunch of dev diaries.

It weren't the sex cards. At first, when I heard of them, I thought "What?" But after having played TW1, they really ain't so bad. They aren't forced on your screen, you can just hit escape and continue.Apollo Starflare wrote...

I liked the combat, though I did get annoyed at times. You had to time the stuff at the right time, and you had to change constantly between attack stances. And then you had the two different sort of swords:
Silver swords and steel swords, which confused me somewhat more, as I didn't know which sword I had to use against which monster.
Another thing is that I'm pretty much used to "Drink potion, heal wounds instantly!", so I had a hard time not judging the game on that. Though it did increase healing rate... Even though I... for a lack of better words, "hated" it, I also liked it. It made it somewhat more realistic.
Because... Well, let's face it:
You break a bone or three in a battle and all you gotta do is "eat" or drink a health potion or snack or health pack or whatever and you are back in action. Which, when you look at it, doesn't really make much sense at all.
The alchemy part was interesting, but barely used it. Except for this mission in this crypt in Act 1 in the pitch black darkness. Made three potions to see there. Though I didn't find much there. Apart from four walls that were blocking the other rooms... Didn't knew how to get past them. Until Act 2.
I was actually glad that it had such a long effect on Geralt.
I also had a hard time with keeping my money in my purse. It flew out in no time, simply because I had to meditate for levelling up.
It was only until level 6 or 7 that I realized I could increase my skills...
My journal was all cluttered. During Act 2, I looked in my journal and scratched my head, mumbling "Er... Where should I start...?" Sometimes, I didn't even know what I had to do.
And the fact I had to collect codexes so that I could extract certain ingredients was a bit strange. But that wasn't much of a problem, since I never did any sort of alchemic stuff.
No, TW1 is definetily a good game. But since I mostly have played FPS games and Mario games and stuff in my life, it might explain why some of the stuff bothered me. There's an interesting plot, I can see it. I can feel it. I can hear it. But the game just doesn't feel like something for me... yet. Because every time I think about TW1 and TW2, the more I want to play it again.
I need some more time to get used to RPG's. The only RPG's I have ever played are Oblivion, DAO, DA2, ME1, ME2 and TW1, DAO being the first of them all.

Alchemy is still a vital part to the game, I play on Hard and drinking the combat potions and using the right oils are the only way to avoid desperate running around with almost 0 HP. The only 3 potion restriction makes your life more simple and don't let you abuse near lethal poison level uber component bonus combos (sadly
The introduction of item crafting adds a lot of depth and way more time to screw around with components.
If you felt lost in TW1, then bad news for you, TW2 is much larger and you really have to be in picture if you want to avoid wandering aimlessly.

I kind of found my way through the city. It was just that at some moments I totally forgot what I was supposed to be doing.
I might go back to TW1 some day. I still think about TW1 every now and then. Despite its complexity, I liked it. It added something to the game, it made it feel realistic.
And having removed my saves felt a bit like a loss.
...
Oh sod it, I think I'll just get TW1 again. It's just... It's a fun game, a good game. Now that I started it, I have to finish it.

Well Witcher 2. Even on Normal Alchemy is basically a necessity. Combat is much better and more tactical and difficult.
Also this Geralt's Life Easier Witcher's are supposed to be able to see in the dark so this helps a lot. With the mod Geralt can have an item which is exactly like Cat potion, meditate anywhere and have acces to storage from anywhere.
