I'm not sure whether I should first import my Triss or Shani save from Witcher 1. I hate Triss, but am thinking that Geralt being in a romance with her will lead to a more dramatic story overall.

Am I inferring correctly that you can import? Holy crap didn't know that does someone know if there's a savegame editor out there for that since I deleted my saves a long time ago.

You can import, and it's like a direct import as well. No amnesia (well, I hope you know what I mean, geralt still remembers the first game :D) no death and meaningless resurrection that's never mentioned again ala  ME2, etc. My Geralt came into the game with quite a bit of gold, his Raven's Armor, Gwalhir, and Moonblade all intact. It's awesome. Direct continuity in every sense of the word. The Witcher 2 opens one month after the end of the last game, and it's about as seamless as one would expect. B)

Well your 32-bit OS isn't benefiting from your 4GB RAM as it can't use all of it properly (to state it in simple terms).  Might be a memory-related problem as I initially suspected. Try killing any other non-critical apps running in the background like web browsers, email, etc. But if the game itself isn't adequately releasing memory due to poorly optimized memory management you're just going to have to get used to saving often and shutting the game down every 1-2 hours.

You should be able to get a 64-bit version of your copy of Windows 7 for free or low cost (shipping). Might look into that.

Happened to once so far - in about 10 hours of playtime. Compared to your system, I've a very different (and dated) system (Phenom x4 965 BE, 4 GB ram, GTX 280, Win 7 64 bit)... so the only thing we have in common is, I play on steam as well. But I've no idea what's causing this, the lack of any error message is quite strange.

That said, I don't mind a crash once in a while. I save often, and I'm used to much worse. (New Vegas at release, I'm looking at you...)

PC GAMER review

Just a heads up, NOT the same guy who reviewed the yunnowhatgameitwas who had a 94 :innocent:

Different people, different opinions please respect it. <3

The game seems to suffer from second part ending issues, but I wonder if all endings suffer from this or some are better resolved than others.

I know I´m going to be dissapointed if Yennefer and/or Ciri don´t show up.

Someone on another forum had a similar problem and he solved it by lowering the texture resolution.
It was trying to use more video memory than he had available and crashing.

My copy arrived this morning. Really looking forward to playing this.

So I love this game so much. Just a bit into act 1, have crafted some decent starter leather, and a new witcher silver sword. Working on the kracken quests and doing as many side quests in the area at the same time. Shame I had to stop, sleep and come to work today, soooo can't wait to get home and play. It's been a long time since a game has given me that feeling.

On topic.
This game is a masterpieces of work. I´m runing it on high, but also tried medium and it is absolutly beautiful. Usually i don´t care about graphics. I still play very old games if they are good, but this is amazing and it FITS the world so perfectly and adds to the atmosphere. It beats every other RPG in this part.

The story and characters so far, are great, even more so if you import your save, though i had a hard time remembering the stuff i did in the first part, it all came naturally back to me. Triss..god i love Triss. THIS is how a romances should be. THIS is how characters should interact, they are believable, they have their goals and don´t run after you like randy dogs. Funny enough, you are not the shiny hero in this game, and you can shape it so perfectly. I can´t wait for the 2nd playthrough, sometimes i did reload the game and it made a difference. Not like..some other game.

Most of the time i prefer turn based combat, however if you can get into the witcher combat, it´s great, timing, avoiding and learning how to beat bosses is rewarding. Nothing better than challenging enemies, not dumb waves out of nowhere.

A thing where i want to make a direct link to Dragon Age 2. What you get for your money is more worth it. And i mean only the box. Though the game too, but that´s a....different thing..and subjectiv..to some braindea...oh forget it :P

Dragon Age 2 Signature: Game DVD and a cheap manual...Soundtrack? You have to download it. High Res Textures? Download it....seriously?

The Witcher 2 Premium: Game DVD, Manual, Soundtrack, Behind the scene Material (watch it, it´s worth it), game guide(!), a good map of the world (anyone remember the cloth map from DA:O? it fell apart after i got it out..i´m not kidding), collectors coin, 2 papercraft figures (that was..fun..didn´t do that before), and a very funny "letter".

And i paid less for it. Hint hint EA you cheap... ;)

Sure the game has some problems...but all of them are very little.

All together i had not so much fun playing a RPG since the days of Baldurs Gate. Thumbs up to CD for showing that you can make a good game for RPG fans without trying to cater to the lowest common "potential customer".

Note the very last line of that review. It's the same praise Baldur's Gate 2 garnered. I'm not going to make any claim to know the future of gaming or RPGs specifically, but if CDP have finally struck the perfect balance between RPG elements, action gameplay, and cinematic presentation the future is going to be quite bright indeed--and to think, I'd just about sworn off them entirely as a result of DA2 and ME2.

Well, if you read in the comments below the review, Richard Cobbet who reviewed The Witcher 2 says this regarding DA2/TW2 comparisons:

And for the record, I'd have been mid-80s onDA2. The Witcher 2 is much better.

Lol just went through the Hung Night / Hangover quest.

Funny little quest.

It doesn't add anything to the narrative, but it adds a lot in terms of character, for Geralt & for the Blue Stripes. Roche too.

Very cool. And funny. It's those sorts of quests where you know the developer put a lot of thought into the game as a whole. Things that add to the world and to the characters.
