Lol just went through the Hung Night / Hangover quest.
Funny little quest.
It doesn't add anything to the narrative, but it adds a lot in terms of character, for Geralt & for the Blue Stripes. Roche too.
Very cool. And funny. It's those sorts of quests where you know the developer put a lot of thought into the game as a whole.
Nice. I remember in Witcher 1 one of the possible romances throws a party and you have to bring a guest choosing from 3 or 4 people I think. Like you said it adds nothing to the main story but it's reveals a lot about the character. I'm still in Act 1!
@Nerevar-as You have to register and it should though I don't see them either.

Well, if you read in the comments below the review, Richard Cobbet who reviewed The Witcher 2 says this regarding DA2/TW2 comparisons:And for the record, I'd have been mid-80s onDA2. The Witcher 2 is much better.
A shame that he couldn't have been the one to review DA2. PCGamer's DA2 review was just one of the most laughable things I had ever seen. The guy that reviewed it definitely lost all credibility with me, anyway.

But you would have been fine with a mid-80's rating? You know, that rating indicates a good and enjoyable game, but nothing worth a GOTY award.

The question should be: "who cares about GOTY?" You gain nothing of it from a players perspective, it´s unimportant. Considering some of the games that won it in the past years, i would even call it ridiculous.

Damn...you know it just might be at this point. But I bet all copies will get it eventually. I held off playing till I got the Polish VO's. At least English ones are much better this time.

I played the first one in Polish with EE english subtitles. Spanish localization was pretty bad. Geralt in particular was horrible. English Vo isn´t bad so far, excluding Triss, but I liked more the Polish ones.

Yep, I read the author's comments who reviewed TW2 thats why theres emphasis on "NOT the same dude who reviewed DA2".

I already said upthread that I hated it. It's awkward and the controls seem unresponsive. Nothing is explained. The UI is ugly and unintuitive. Geralt dies every time someone looks at him sideways.marshalleck wrote...

I was a bit surprised/overwhelmed at the challenge of even Normal difficulty setting, but my feeling toward it is changing quickly as I get the hang of it. Standard advice applied in my case...get used to dodging a lot, and using Quen often. The learning curve is steep and it doesn't hold your hand. I resorted to reading through all the tutorial entries in my journal, because the tooltips are way too brief in both description and duration on the screen to be useful. "When all else fails, read the manual."
Also, it helps to make sure you're using the appropriate sword. I still sometimes forget, and wonder why I'm barely doing damage to my target. <_<
Never thought I'd be nostalgic for TW1 combat.

Strange. I only tried a few foes, but swings were OK and took down several enemies on hard. Then 2 archers saw me before I saw them... Anyway, I fared better than in BAtman AA, took me half an hour to get the idea and days to master the combat there (dodging in particular - but only game I got killed becuase I was amazed at how good the combat looked after chaining 20 attacks).
Have to play more, but I liked it. However Gothic 1, 2 and Risen are my favorite combat RPGs, so I´m used to unforgiving - learn to fight yourself combat systems.

Beating the kayran on EASY took me hours. I was THIS close to pressing "Uninstall". But I finally managed it. Still, some of those fights are way too hard IMO. All it takes is to be surrounded by a few drowners:crying:. I DO miss the Group Style from TW1.

Before anyone says it- I'm not a Biodrone- I was disappointed in DA2, too.
Edit: Just as an example of something I hate- the quick time events- my god, who ever thought that button spamming is fun?

Here you go:
Combat:
- Blocking (E) uses up Vigor as much as Signs do. No Vigor = no block available.
- Enemies hitting you throw you off-balance, leaving you 'dazed' for a second or so. Key: Avoid being hit.
- Most effective way of dodging is by double-tapping the directional keys.
- Do not try to 'queue-up' actions. This is what results in the "clunky" experience. Instead...
- WATCH your enemies' combat moves. When they lift their weapon, a blow is coming (duh). Dodge the attack.
- You can chain up attacks, though the more you chain, the more likely the opponent will retaliate and daze you. Thus, after your 3rd strike or so, block in anticipation, await the retaliation and continue.
- Create space, don't let yourself be "boxed" (+1 for anyone who remembers this Ultima Online term)
- Make clever use of Axii and Aard. Set a hotkey for the "dial menu" that is accessible while not impeding movement controls (I remapped Space) so you can quickly change Signs during combat.
- Last but certainly helpful on slower machines: DISABLE "Vertical Sync" in the advanced options. That will make your input/mouse-lag go away
In short, once you get the hang of the combat and begin to understand the reasons for "unresponsiveness", you will most likely start to enjoy combat thoroughly, dancing from opponent to opponent.
The key is to watch opponent's behavior and consiously execute your actions in anticipation =)

I rate Richard Cobbett as a reviewer, he puts a lot of stock in the plot of a game (and story and characters in general) for starters.
Reading his review I see most complaints are echoed by other reviews I've been following, particularly the combat. It's funny really, they have changed the combat so much and yet it has ended up with the same amount of criticism, and similar issues. I found TW1 was much more difficult at the start for similar reasons he gives in his review of TW2 here, right down to carrying a bunch of swallows around. By the end of CII though (earlier in TW2?) you feel almost overpowered.
His point about the ending is the one that really hits home, it seems they ran out of time and essentially left out Chapter V (in comparison to TW1). That's a shame if so, given how one of the big things everyone talks about in regards to CDP is how they aren't under any pressure from an overbearing boss. But then I suppose the game had to come out someday. If it sets up the next game then I do find myself wondering just how long we will be waiting for a third Witcher game though.
Dragon (m)Age 2 - his review of DA2, for comparison. He really didn't like the way Mages integrated with the plot. His saying he would rate it in the mid 80's makes sense.

The quick time events can be disabled in the options from what I understand (havn't had a chance to play it yet).
