It seems I have stirred something up.

I will readily admit I can be over-sensitive to these things, but I do think there is a point to be critical of content, and especially in the areas of gender politics.
I know that might sound ridiculous to some, but I do take these matters seriously.
That said, I wish some wouldn't misinterpret my stance as prudish or anything akin to that.
Like I've already stated, I do think sexuality is a perfectly reasonable theme for interactive fiction, and I wouldn't like to see it vanish due to societal knee-jerk hyperbole.

As for why I take issue with the portrayal of Triss' sexuality, it is a matter of implication, more than anything else.
I simply never see her as a fully realised character, rather a token female foil to Geralt whose perks include the odd diagonal wrestling match.
I see those scenes of intimacy as external to her character, and a device meant to satisfy the player rather than the actual drama.

HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD, RUN!

I didn't progress into the game much past Act 2, but the actual implication that Geralt is soon about to regain his memory, and the memories of the true love of his life while he is in love with someone else, because he isn't aware of that, makes that Rose of Remembrance scene very dramatic.

But I guess you actually have to play the game to know that. :wizard:

@ LiquidGrape:

I haven't started playing The Witcher 2 yet (finishing the first one again first), but that's hardly how I would describe Triss from the first game. It's obvious that she likes Geralt a lot and the two have some shared history, but the game, to me, tends to depict Geralt as Triss's lackey, rather than the other way around. Geralt just goes where and does he's told.

I quite liked the romance with Triss in The Witcher because it felt a bit more 'real' than some of the more Mills & Boon style Bioware romances. Well, maybe Mills & Boon is a little harsh. But playing DA2, romancing Anders for example. Out of nowhere, it's just all of a sudden "I love you! I cannot live without you! My soul never saw the light of day until you came into my life! [paraphrasing]".

I like that Geralt is a flawed character, and although aware of such, Triss is willing to accept him as a partner.

Just my perspective though.

Perfectly true, and I've never implied otherwise. I am fully aware that I can speak with no real certainty on W2 as a whole.
I have seen fairly substantial amounts of streamed gameplay, however, so I think I have a decent grasp of the overall narrative thrust (no pun intended).
That dynamic you mention could certainly elevate the relationship, but I am still ambivalent on Triss as a character in her own right, as well as the presentation of the sexual themes.
But yes, I am simply sharing my impressions of the game as I have seen it thus far.
You should consider it musings more than anything else.

I am glad to hear of a diametrically opposite interpretation, because for all my talk, I'm not particularly fond of the assessment I've made. I much prefer to be enthusiastic about a game.
The pacing of certain romantic liaisons in DA2 is definitely worthy of some scrutiny, although I think it's a minor issue, and one that could easily have been avoided with some more apparent visual reference to the passing of time.

I think my main problem with The Witcher as a whole is a matter of tone...it seems a bit thematically confused at times.
But like I said, musings. Take them for what they are.

I'm sure Mike Laidlaw is the only one still playing Dragon Age 2 right now. Either that, or he's moved to the Witcher 2 also.

Well as a woman who believes in jusitce and fairness between the sexes, Triss seems kick ass and strong in her own right in TW2 consdering the time period. Geralt asks if Triss can go with him, if she wants, not has to like a piece of property exchanged from one man to another.

6 snares traps that are abundant in that forest for us to disarm and collect plus Yrden, enhanced with Petri's Philter so it really freezes the queen, leaving her Isabela-sized rear open for a big strong sword attack!

*raises hand*

and i totally thought it'd just queue up another wave of them to slaughter.

I kind of like how the game slaps me in the face if i try to be a totally unrealistic takes-on-world badass.

edit:

Also, anyone know how i kill off those Nekker nests? grapeshop bombs or something? i tried using Igni, didnt work ; ;

TW2 is probably the best game in the industry along with PS:T!!!
At last, a real awesome RPG with a great story, characters, dialogues and world-design, that makes DA2 look like "angry birds" or "Tetris" :P
CD Project will save the gender!!

People are forgetting free DLCs that are to come. It's CDPR new strategy in hooking gamers longer while once all the DLCs been released, they'll be ready to release expansion. It'll be a must buy when they release expansion for me

Hey I just got my game and I have an unopened Collector's Edition and an Amazon edition with the Ultimate Swordsman Suit.
Was wondering if anyone could provide stats on the Ultimate Swordsman Suit and the Roche Commando Jacket for us to compare. Thank you.

I also think the release of an expansion could be foreseeable. :alien:

Save the gender? How, when you can't even select it! :P

And yes, I am bitter because I want to play TW2, but know it'll be a waste of my money since I cannot persevere beyond more than a few hours playing games with a male protagonist.
