Even hardcore gamers need instructions. And that tutorial movie is very good at showing what should be done. Even the manual isn't that helpful.

Ah i see your problem, you´re used to be babysited aren´t you? just read the manual as its very useful and stop moaning, the challenge in this game is top notch.

Some people like to know the controls and such before going to a fight. Nothing wrong with that. I would love to know how to use alien gun before going to a fight trying to shoot with it, for example.

:)

But the game does tell you that and you can just take a look at the key configuration menu.

Stop being an elitist who thinks anybody who complains is stupid.

I did read the manual and there are still a lot of things undocumented in the game.

My criticisms are valid because, at many points in the game, they introduce something new and don't tell you what needs to be done.  If the point is to figure stuff out, I get that, but there are times when you're not really sure what you are even capable of.

This Game Designer has it right.

http://www.escapistm...1-Tutorials-101

If CDPJ wants to become a AAA game designer--and make no mistake, this is an attempt to be that, Atari and they wouldn't spend loads of marketing to do that, they are going to have to make the tutorials easier and make it accessible for people.

(If they don't, this game might not sell that well and you won't see a sequel).

My review on the game. Don't call me a troll for having an opinion. You Witcher fanboys hate when someone creates a new topic of The Witcher 2 and thus I will post my review here:

I played it for 7 hours.

It sucked like sh*t and I deleted it from my computer soon afterwards and got a refund for it (thankfully I didn't buy a digital version).

If you don't like Geralt. The game will probably be ruined for you since you're stuck following the white haried, scared, golden cat eyed Geralt from the behind for the whole game. His voice also feels poor and they've given him the typical rough antihero voice that the Two Worlds II (TWII lol) hero has too.

Unlike traditional RPGs like Divine Divinity, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights and pretty much most Dungeon and Dragons games, the class system is very small and lacks in varity.  You can level up in magic and sword and give Geralt a few new abilities but that's it. You can't make him into a wizard, cleric, paladin or what have you. He always feels like a battle mage (warrior + wizard) and this feeling was present in The Witcher (which I played till the end).

Put simply. RPG elements feel dumbed down.

I can't believe people consider this game a traditional RPG when the character cutomization is lacking and feels like that of an action RPG (Rise of the Argonauts comes to mind here).

Graphics are beautiful but who cares? Some of us still play old RPGs such as Baldur's Gate, NWN and Divine Divinity, graphics don't matter.

Dialogue? It's following the same road as Dragon Age 2. You get some dialogue on the screen and when you select it, something else that is different from the dialogue is said.

Combat looks like Assassin's Creed combat but plays totally different. It's actually worse. The camera becomes awful when you enter combat and has a terrible frame rate, weapon swings look fake (but not as fake as Dragon Age 2's combat swings) and you only pretty much ever need to use the same tactic:

Cast spell at enemy. Roll to him. Attack him. Cast spell at next enemy. Roll to him. Kill him. Most importantly, don't get involved in attacking a group. It's not hard combat, just stupid. I've seen many people also using these tactics on YouTube and others kite. Dragon Age 2's poor combat is still better.

Finally voice acting. It's improved from the original for most characters but just like the original. Characters lack facial animation which makes them less believable characters.

The only good part of the game was the easter egg I found showing Altair from Assassin's Creed dead after jumping into some hay.

4/10

You can defend it as much as you like. Graphics don't make a game. The combat is terrible.

/Finished here.

I am guessing that clown got owned by his parents when he chose first dialogue option - morning in the camp with triss. His parents saw a boobie and slapped him so hard that he went crying back to the basement. ^_^

Who is with me?!

But lets not divert thread because of some buffoon. In case people didn't know - all the tutorials are in the journal just like in the first Witcher. B)

You give him too much credit. He didn't make it past the dragon's fire...that's what he did for 7 hours.

And where do you sell PC games at? I was under the impression stores don't buy back PC games.

@Romantiq  That made me chuckle.
@mrcrusty The ingame journal:attributes even shows how it calculates damage, Armor, health, resistances and critical effects. If thats not enough people can go to the character page.

Polish language pack finally available.

Don´t get why people are that frustated at dying. After barely dying at all (and only once or twice fighting) in AC2 I´m quite enjoying hard mode. This time it´s not just Aard and Igni.

Dieing a lot does not mean you or the game sucks, it means you're doing things wrong. This game makes you think over your strategy, which sometimes may even be to let go of the challenge, go do something else and return at a later point when stronger/more equipped/more versatile.

There have been some points in the game I kept dieing repeatedly untill I found a tactic that worked and worked well. Just one reason I'm so affraid of running into spoilers, I love trying to think up ways to succeed and prevail.

Let's not get too snarky about this. Guy doesn't like the game for reasons which we believe are misleading or untrue. Either we argue the points or we leave him be. Taking potshots doesn't help anyone.

@Ringo12:

Yeah, but redding is teh hard.

Lol, can't be too snarky myself. Some people who are accustomed to games that handhold you through such elements and/or don't really have a depository for information may not notice it was there in the first place.

Even in Mass Effect 2 on Insane, first time I played it I died about 5 times just because its a fool's concept of cover and shoot and rarely change position. I think people just forgot how hard games used to be and were spoiled too much by button of awesome. Well, too bad its a skill button here instead so how about less QQ more Pew Pew?

I'm not hurt by any means, I am just saying there's some faulty game design from CDPJ. You're showing biases by saying "awesome button", which shows some emotional snarkiness.

Whether we want to admit it or not, people learn how to play the games through play, they don't usually read manuals. Take this, for an example.

http://www.escapistm...ol-RPGs-Anymore

And like I said, after struggling I did read the manual and the manual still isn't very helpful with a some of the more unexpected things. Good game designers know how to make proper games. All I am saying is I think CDPJ is unpolished and needs to improve if they want to have a Witcher 3.

I'm experienced with games needing manuals, I'm 41, but that doesn't mean I can't also take into account fundemental truths of game design.  TW2 needs to be more than just a "protest game" for RPG fans upset at "the industry".

I'm guessing he didn't even play the game and is just looking for an opportunity to troll. This is the same guy that said he'd refuse to buy the game if they didn't have a demo, yet that somehow changed.

Wouldn´t say it´s a CDP thing. Piranha Bites did the same in Risen and the Gothics. The tutorial is telling you what button to press in order to swing. Then you are on your own. I guess it´s time for the toggle tutorial option for people who don´t want to discover things themselves.
