So...........drinking with the Blue Stripes.......BEST QUEST EVER. I LOLed SO much!

I've started my 2nd play through, Just about finished the prologue.. I'll have to remember where that quest is, missed it the first time :(

And you're welcome everyone for the light weight crafting mod. Iron weighs 0.1 now! >.<

Does the main menu change for any of you? Mine is now the camp of tents, with a tree, branches and a flag fluttering in the wind The main menu is pretty to look at

Anyone else love those animated flash back scenes?

It's in Flotsam, at the Blue Stripes headquarters.

And yes, the main menu does change for me too. Stuuuuuuuuunning. And those Flashback Scenes.....I love the art. Bloody unique!

Doesn't the menu change according to your progress in the game?

When I started I had the Temerian camp background, in Chapter 1 it changed into a forest etc.

Didn't TW2 cost about 20 000 000 USD less than DA2 to make? Wonder where all that money went....

Let's not bring DAII into this again, please.

No DA2!

I finally reached Act 2. Bought me some new armor and already replaced the Kayran armor. I know what I'm doing next time with the Kayran loot.

DX 11 is gimmicky. It's real strength lies in the fact that it can utilise multiple threads more efficiently and provide a framework to use shaders more effectively to get the same or better visual results with less performance loss as the GPU is being utilised better. It's an API, or let's say, framework. It doesn't necessarily correlate to the final result.

A well structured DX 9 game can easily look better than a poorly structured DX 11 game.

The problem is that games are still built from the ground up using DX 9, utilising only a few DX 11 options that are layered on top. This is grossly inefficient and one of the lead causes of DX 11 giving you a massive performance hit.

Theoretically, a game built from the ground up using DX 11 can look better and run smoother than one built using DX 9.

Agreed. DX11 has been done poorly in some other RPG I will not mention by name. While TW2 looks stunning on DX9 alone.Posted Image

It's an industry problem, not necessarily a problem with "the company that shall not be named... even on it's forums". I've yet to see an implementation of DX 11 that provides noticeable visual improvement without breaking performance.

I don't want to bring this up, but more than anything, I feel as if the consoles are responsible. It simply isn't worth the time, money and effort to build a DX 11 based game on PC, then downscale it for the consoles. It's much easier to build a game for consoles then upscale the PC version.

As a result, our games are not taking full advantage of the technology we have.

I believe Battlefield 3 is the first game that may break that trend.

But it does have it's upsides too. By creating an artificial barrier in regards to technology, hopefully we'll see the emphasis on eyecandy decrease and a focus more on games that look good and are good games. We're getting to that stage. Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Deus Ex, Skyrim, Mass Effect, etc etc.

Hopefully, there'll be more to follow.

I don't play FPS games, so I wouldn't know. And I agree. They should upscale it to PC, not the othr way around.

'Tis true what mrcrusty is saying.

The best looking FPS today ( without anyone able to bring an argument against it ) is Crysis 2, and it does not use DX11 yet ( they working to implement it ).

On-topic: How does one get the Librarian achievement?

As a PC player, we should aim for PC centric development that's highly scalable and can be ported to consoles. That's what Witcher 2 is. I have zero doubts that CDPR want the game on consoles.

In comparison, Dragon Age 2 is a game that's likely developed for consoles first, then upscaled for PC.

It's not something to really throw more dirt on. It's a practice that's industry wide. It's simply cheaper and easier to do as the technology has been stagnant for years and because consoles often sell more games than PC.

In any case, Bioware has never pushed the envelope when it comes to technical graphics so it's not really something we can hold against them.

Another example I can hold up is New Vegas. The Strip was reduced in size, then split into 3 tiny sections because the Xbox 360 didn't have enough memory to handle the planned version.

Funny thing is I would say that Crysis 1 looks better in a lot of areas. Artistically, Crysis 2 stomps all over 1, but in terms of raw textures, detail and technical graphics, I hand the edge to Crysis 1.

Anyyyyywayyysss...

Back on topic. Has anyone done the Fight Club quests? I finished them in a particular way that offended someone important and I'm wondering if it will bite me in the ass later on. I'm kind of hoping it does, choice & consequence and such.

I read on Kotaku that the textures are as high res and more of the textures are stretched out. Witcher 2 still looks amazing for a DX9 game and imo looks much better then Crysis 2 graphic wise and the art direction.

Well in Act 1 I made a deal and didn't go through with it and was attacked later on.

Just starting Act II. Where's the best spot to look for Aether? I find it to be the most scarce resource yet it's used in the most potions and bombs.

DX11 has huge improvements. Some things include better performance, advanced lighting and tessellation. Doesn't mean that DX11 games automatically look better or that DX9 games cannot look good, as Witcher 2 clearly shows. The amount of systems that currently support DX11 is still low and not all drivers support all features, so very few games really use it (Civ V is one exception)

If Witcher 2 patches in DX11, we'll see a bit better performance. I doubt that we will see something mayor.

Oh, it picks up! If you've played TW1, you know how the early parts are a drag. Just keep playing, you will be pleasantly surprised.Posted Image

Are you talking about Witcher 1 or 2?!

@Costin_Razvan No it doesn't. CDProjekt has said maybe they would patch it in later but not entirely sure.
