There are a bunch of posts of why we like it just read those.

I didn't ask you to prove that you like it. I asked you to provide material that shows that the actor who voices Geralt is capable of showing even a modicum of emotion, and also that the lines provided to said actor are capable of expressing said emotion, gravitas, etc.

So far I have watched the first 30 minutes of the game, and it's still just as bad as before.  I actually enjoy just about every voice actor except for Geralt.

I'm still looking for some videos that showcase good dialog and voice acting on the part of Geralt.

I'm going out tomorrow to buy a game. Currently that game is going to be LA Noire. Convince me to get TW2 instead.

No.

Unless you pay me a comission. I don't sell anything for free!

Yea no offence Maverick, but there is a load of information here and everywhere else, personally I got both. Havent played Noir yet, but it will likely be great. This one is great as well, not much else to say really.

Geralt is a Clint Eastwood type, he's over a hundred years old, seen, just about everything, he doesn't go Shakespear or to emotional, he is who he is. Though the actor is directed better then in the first.

Strengths of Witcher 2:

Graphics. God, this game is beautiful

Character talent trees

Depth of world, based on an established seires of books by Sapkowski.

Mature themes, complex developed story.

Did I mention the game is beautiful? God, I booted up DA2 after playing the witcher and it felt like I was driving a Hyundai after driving a Ferrari.

Weaknesses

Unresponsive, slightly awkward, combat. Frustratingly difficult at lower levels (DA2 far more enjoyable in my opinion)

Clunky inventory. No "junk" option.

One significant difference: more freedom of creation in Dragon Age. Warden, & Hawke are widely varied, In the Witcher, you are always Geralt, a Witcher with amnesia. Don't get me wrong, I love Geralt in the books and the game: he's a nuanced, deep, quality (anti) hero. But where I really felt like I owned my DA characters, I feel like in the Witcher that I am walking in the shadow of Sapkowski's already defined character.

And I would like to state that like of Witcher 2 and DA2 is not mutually exclusive: I am a fan of both series.

Why do WE have to provide YOU with material? Go ask CDPR. It is their baby. Or just google for it! And somehow I'm pretty sure that you will dismiss any material we could provide you with your "this actor sucks" attitude. Nothing in the whole world will convince you otherwise, not even if he was awarded an Oscar. I'm sure of it. Well, enjoy LA: Noir! Cya next great Bioware game!

You know, it's excellent, but everything that it's doing has been done before. There's nothing really revolutionary or different about it.

Agreed, it doesn't touch any new bases, but everything that it does is done really well imo.

I don't think anyone felt as if Origins for example, was a revolutionary game, but people love it anyway.

Exactly. Witcher 2 is is more like rpgs of old with a modern combat system and engine. What's not to like?

Because you (figurative "you" e.g. TW2 fantaics) have proclaimed that it will be an amazing game and superior to DA2 in every way possible for the past half a year. I am asking you to provide examples to refute what I find to be a large, immediate flaw of the game: even from a cursory glance, the protagonist's voice actor is quite bad and is given equally poor lines to deliver. The protagonist appears to be the worst character in the story, which is quite unsettling.

And you mistake me for one of your camp, sir. See, I don't fervently wish for games to fail and arbitrarily seek out poorly conceived flaws. On the contrary, I would want nothing more than to love TW2. I want to be proven wrong, but from every video I can find, I'm just not seeing it.

And it's not even so much of a "his voice is bad," (though I would prefer something more original than "standard gruff and stoic warrior") but instead "the way in which his voice was recorded and layered into the game sounds like a mod, not a professional job." It stands out compared to every other voice actor so far. It is jarring, to be honest.

Geralt has a very flat, monotone delivery for everything.

That said, the writing for other characters is more emotional and the actors seem to express it well. Maybe they should have given us a FemGeralt voiced by Jennifer Hale.

The game IS better than DA2 in every way imo. You know it's real funny the same group of people that moaned the most about DA2 bashing, are just about all here in this thread doing the same thing to TW2.

Oh, it picks up! If you've played TW1, you know how the early parts are a drag. Just keep playing, you will be pleasantly surprised.Posted Image

Kayran beast is a breeze compared to the Wraiths of the Melitele quest... argh... it hurts!!!

I'm pretty much at the Kayran at this point. Unless I've missed some side quests. Focused tonight, got both monster contracts done, got the haunted hospital done, and indecent proposal as well. Feeling quite acomplished if I do say so myself :D

No idea why people who don't even like Witcher bother with this thread.

@Maria Caliban  That's just stupid. I don't remember there being a female Geralt in the books.

You know you're juyst bneing a ******, right? If TW2 were Bioware's you would be praising how good Geralt looks, acts and sounds. So take this from a diehard BW fan (which I am too myself):

So.....I finished Act III just now.

I am UTTERLY blown away. I detest hyperbole....but this is the VERY best RPG I have EVER played. And the Replay value (With imports to add sweetness) is GIGANTIC. Tomorrow I'll import my Shani/Pro non human save and start again. I am sure I missed a lot as well. Nothing like ten more playthroughs to gather all the details.... If anyone were to ask me about the perfect RPG...I'd not name the BG Series, not the M&M Series, not Morrowind, not DAII .....but TW2.

Sorry about the fangirling. I just had to share. smiliesmiliesmilie

Wow, that good huh?

Thanks for sharing though. I'd much rather trust the opinion of a player who's gone through it rather than a reviewer.

Yep, that good. The DA series seems just so...insignificant atm. (I still adore it, mind you...but...) As far as unimportant me is concerned, TW2 not only won me over (I was skeptical at first) but completely captured my RPG soul like no other game before has. My Lady Hawke's story still touched me on a more personal level...but TW2's storytelling, the choices, the stunning level design and art, the RPG elements.......CDPR delivered and then some. Cannot wait for DLC, espansions and TW3. (Take your time though, CDPR, don't get lost in the shuffle now!)

I'm not bashing TW2. In fact, I've said that I like everything I've seen aside from two things: Geralt, and the fan service (I've watched about 15 minutes of two random scenes of gameplay and I've seen Triss naked twice. Really?).

It just so happens that those two things are rather huge, in my opinion. The protagonist being - as Maria said - flat is pretty self-evident. As far as the fan service goes, it strikes parallels with anime. Typically, anime with fan serivce has absolutely terrible stories and characters.

:D

As for Geralt, he sounds reserved, in some cases flat, but he does have a bit of snark depending on the dialogue. It may sound underwhelming but it's reasonable considering his character.

Geralt is supposed to be flat. He's not a hugely emotional guy. He follows his code, kicks some ass, and is a hit with the lady folk. I've seen one romantic encounter, they're imo handled far more mature than anything Bioware's ever done for a love scene. At least from the one I've seen thus far and other people's decriptions. We're all adults who should be able to handle a bit of nudity without flying off the handle. It's actually done pretty tastefully from what I've gathered thus far.

Geralt is a fraking witcher! He's not some soup opera guy! He's a mutant. And as for the quality of the recording and stuff, sir, I'm a musician for the past 37 years and I tell you, there's nothing sounding like a mod or unprofessional. You, sir, are way way disturbed in your attempt to find stuff to throw at us, FANS of FANtastic games, whoever is the developer and publisher!

Well, I like he's voice, I prefer a hard ass type delivery then my Sheppard. Really if it's a game breaker for you then it is, how can anyone change your mind? People have disliked games for less so it is what it is. Like I said before the actor is better directed then in the first, but that is still he's voice and attitude. Maybe go with Noir and down the road pick this up.
