I pre-ordered the game a long time ago, but wasn't able to play it on release. I had no sound at all, but I fixed that by buying another headset. I also didn't have a monitor aspect ratio that was properly supported, so I had to buy another one. After all the problems that TW1 had I expected that CDPR has learned from that, but apparently not. BTW: I don't care whether the fans agree with me or not. I've just spend a lot of money on a single game and it pisses me off.
Anyway...
I didn't have much sleep this night. I am fiddling with TW2 and setting up the controls for it (I use a Logitech G13 and a mouse). Exploring the game, looking at how it compares to TW1 and the DA franchise. Things like that.
Compared to TW1 the controls behave differently and I need to get used to that. But TW2 is much better in that respect than TW1. TW2 is a bit easier to control, but certainly not dumbed down. The combat is much better than TW1. Compared to DA:O/DA2 the combat is different and shouldn't be compared. They aim to achieve different things.
The game looks great. It has stunning little details all over. The world feels more alive than DA2. The characters walk, talk, work, and feel like they actually do things. They fit in the world. The world isn't as tidy as DA2. It's dirty. It has soul. It feels like a lot of attention and love was put into the game.
The environments are stunning. I don't feel I want to run in this game. I want to walk and look at it. As a graphics freak I've noticed a minor annoyance, though. The shadows are dithered. Too bad. It certainly doesn't distract from the the game's beauty, though.
I don't like TW2's sterile interface. It's just as out of character as DA2's. It works great, though. Nothing wrong with that. You have lots of information at your finger tips: From background info to how the game controls work.
The TW2 VA is a clear improvement of TW1. Compared to DA it is not about how things are said, but more about what you do. You need to think what you select, because, unlike DA2, in TW2 things do have impact. That impact can be right now or at some time in the future. I like that. A lot.
These are just my impressions so far (which is not much). I still have a lot of things to figure out, but so far this game is a blast. I am loving every minute of it.
