Hi guys,
Just wanted to let you know:
Patch 1.1 is nearing completion and will be available shortly. It will address a number of issues reported by players such as keymapping, inverting the mouse, sudden crashes, problems with activation, difficulties with the game`s DLC, and more.
Also, here are most common issues and possible solutions:
Difficulties with activation code
There have been quite a few instances that involved entering the number zero (0); you should use the capital letter “o” (O). Also there have been cases where the number one (1), the lower-case letter “el” (l) and the capital letter “eye” (I) have been mixed up. Please try all possible permutations.
CRC Errors when installing the game
1) Please make sure that any antivirus software is disabled during the installation process.
2) It's possible that your DVD drive is not compatible with DVD9 standard. Please manually copy the files to your HDD and try to install the game from there, with antivirus software disabled.
3) If this doesn't work, please try and install the game on another machine - also trying to copy the files manually and disabling any antivirus software.
4) If the above does not help and the DVD disc is in fact damaged, please ask for a refund at the store where bought the game. If this is not satisfactory, please contact us at help2start@thewitcher.com
Game doesn’t start, goes back to launcher
Please try the following possible solutions:
1) Turn all settings to Application-Controlled in the Catalyst Control Center.
2) Disable the second GPU from Crossfire configurations until ATI officially adds support for The Witcher 2 in Catalyst drivers.
3) Try running the game in windowed mode.
4) Run the game with horizontal resolution no higher than than 1920, and set the desktop to the same resolution as the game.
5) Ensure that the game was installed with administrator privileges - Windows UAC settings set to minimum or setup.exe from DVD opened with privileges.
Also: Go to User Account Control Settings.
Type in UAC, or go to the System and Security applet.
Click on the "Change User Account Control Settings" link.
(You can also type in this command from the Run menu: C:\\Windows\\System32\\UserAccountControlSettings.exe)
To turn off UAC, move the slider to the Never Notify position, and then click OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Poor performance on a high-end GPU
Please install the latest drivers for your graphic card, and for nVidia cards, uninstall 3D Vision.
If you are experiencing low efficiency, please make sure you have disabled UberSampling in the game's graphic configuration in the Launcher. If you have an nVidia graphics card, please update your driver to the 275.27 beta as of May 17th.
As for ATI users:
1) Install latest drivers ATI Hotfix.
2) DIsable anisothropic filter, antialiasing and adaptive antialiasing and Catalyst A.I.; this can be done in the CCC panel.
3) Try running the game in windowed mode.
4) For dual cards linked into crossfire, turn off one of the cards or use the Dirt 2 profile.
AMD/ATI plans to release hotfix drivers dedicated to The Witcher 2. They will resolve problems with game's efficiency for crossfire users. This information will appear on: http://support.amd.c...t-Hotfixes.aspx"

Actually, that's quite false. I think Geralt looks great. I think the overall demeanor is fine. It's simply the sounds part I don't like. I didn't like Meer either, but I was thankfully able to choose a different, amazing voice in ME.
Try the Polish voice overs then if you don't like how Geralt sounds in english.

Because I understand the potential misinformation of small sample sizes. I was asking people who know more about the game - particularly knowledge of specific sceens - if it gets better. I can hand pick a few lines from ME, ME2, DAO, and DA2 that sound awful no matter who delivers them, but that hardly means that, overall, the voice acting and writing is bad in those games - quite the contrary, in fact. After asking this, I was called a ******. But this is a Witcher thread on the BioWare forums, so I shouldn't be surprised at what sort of ilk I find in here.
The hardcore Witcher fanboys and fangirls are dip****s but don't let that keep you from picking up the game.
TW2 and DA2 are similar in that they're both great RPGs with serious flaws. Most of the time, Geralt's VA is serviceable. I cringed a bit beginning of the game but by the time I got to the first major town, I'd simply stopped focusing on what Geralt was saying. He might be the main character, but he's not like Shepard where he constantly talks.
I think Geralt's VA will only matter if the story, characters, and setting fail to pull you in, and those are actually the game's strength.

I have 1920*1200 now too. Upgraded my dual monitor 1600*1200 system. I didn't plan that this year.Ringo12 wrote...
@AngryFrozenWater But the 16:10 will be supported in a future patch! Hopefully you enjoy the game enough I'm one of the lucky people who had no problems whatsoever be it with registering or playing.
I play at 1920x1200 and well I'm kind of used to the black bars.

Thanks, this is some helpful information. I really would rather play a fantasy game over a more modern story like LA Noire solely because of Game of Thrones.Maria Caliban wrote...

Well, yeah, TW2's world is in some respects similar to the kind of lower fantasy world of Game of Thrones, in that its more grim and dirty. And the overall world and environments are definitely one of the major strengths of TW2- if you have a computer capable of playing it, I'd say its worth it for the environments alone.

Also the politics of the world are more upfront and in your face unlike other games and the main plot isn't a cliche only you can save the world.

I thought about getting a trainer just so I can breeze through the bits I can't stand without having to put in any effort - not because the combat is beyond my comprehension, I just want to finish quests I don't care about as fast as possible to get to the parts I would potentially like more, including the impressive environments - but I decided to refresh all my bookmarks even knowing that, it being the weekend, none were updating.
Sadly that is an accurate account of my afternoon.

And if the game was 100% politics and 0% monster killing, I probably would have loved it enough to have beaten it by now.

Ilk? I think you have a severe case of self entitlement and delusions of grandeur to go on like this and start insulting a group of strangers. Now please for F's sake buy it dont buy it, make up your mind.
Did you intend for you insults to serve as evidence to the contrary?
Edit
Oh why bother.

So, right at the first millisecond, run away from her before anything because she can interrupt the ritual to watch the fight right there! And we can only reload and try again then because apparently she loves watching a good fight!

And most people who did that on DA2 forums are long term Bioware customers and prolly DA2 owners too. The same cannot be said about people bashing TW2!

Bummer... finished the Melitele's heart quest after a basic tip to my post in GoG. Keep the Wraiths away from the Witch or she interrupts the ritual and won't go back to it, making the fight endless for real!

I had set down some snare traps a yrden in between all the snares and 3 conflaguration traps. I had Quen up the whole time so I kite the wraiths through the traps and use Axii to control a wraith. I used necrophage oil, or whatever it was that hurts them, and Swallow with Rook. It wasn't too bad on hard took me about 5 retries.
@RageGT Yup I own everything Bioware. Game wise ofcourse. I even made a facebook account ot unlock the DA2 items but oh well apparently liking the Witcher means I hate Bioware.

Unless there is a separate thread for "Criticism of The Witcher 2" then negative commentary -carefully qualified or not -about the game is on-topic for this thread. However, I don't actually endorse having different "pro" and "con" threads because in my experience they either become two versions of the same muddled thread anyway.
This is consistent with my position on negative commentary in BioWare games' character threads, like FemShep or Anders or Morrigan or whoever.
So my advice - generally speaking - would be not to take negative criticism personally if you love the game, and if you don't like the game, don't get upset at people who really enjoy it. Calm discussion over a disagreement of opinion on something as ultimately trivial as a videogame really shouldn't upset anybody.

I finished TW1, and own TW2. FWIW.

PROLOGUE/PRISON ESCAPE SPOILER! (small) SKIP IF YOU WANT!!
Maybe effect of a different choice in the TW1 import? I convinced them it was magical, and when you escape the prison, before meeting triss, you find his body with arrows in it, and you seearch and get the newboy quest item.

Maybe, I wanted to give constructive criticism on the forums of the company that made the game so they would mabye, I dunno, read it and maybe use that feedback to make DA3 fantastic instead of a mediocre game? And venting my spleen too, but mostly the constructive criticism. And I happened to make friends who both agreed and disagreed with me whose company I enjoy? Oh yeah, that too.
The only reason for people to **** about TW2 here is to whine about how easily someone else's opinion sways them from their happiness in life, piddle around and waste time, or to try and start flame wars; as I doubt the guys who made Witcher 2 are actually perusing the forums here to get feedback about the game. As opposed to ...say my posting here about DA2 because BioWare made it? Just a guess on my part. I could be wrong.
