Someone posted this build and bonus guide on Gamespot, thought it might be useful.

I would say it's pretty much useless to get throwing daggers. The quest he might be referring to is the Hangover quest with the blue stripes, but you get the skill just for that specific quest anyway.

His idea is for getting as much out of mutages as possible, sacrificing talent points just get abilities that can mutate ( like that useless arrow redirection ). He ignores 50 vitality from the training tree and tough guy....two talents which you will need when fighting the Kayran on Insane ( speaking from my personal experience ).

It's a good tree for Hard I suppose...but it's not going to work on the Kayran and most of Act I.

Someone suggested me not to touch Alchemy for hard/Insane runs. Instead, mix Swordsmanship and Signs! I'm going that way!

You never answered if you're that Polish gamer who gave us the first Live Feed few days ago!  Guess my post got lost in this thread. It's moving too fast! hehe That video you linked with narration, that's the same voice of the live feed guy! Loved that live feed while waiting for the activation time unlock! =)

Just wondering, what are the stats for the Kayran armor? Is it better than the imported Raven jacket?

Yea it is. The Kayran skin can be used for armor or a enhancement, a really good enhancement.

No I am not. I am however a eastern european so that's why the voice may sound similar to you.

As for how to level for insane: Alchemy and Magic are useless compared to swordsmanship. The only two signs you might want to invest in are Quen and Yrden and that's it. The other's are just useless to use in a insane fight. ( Aard maybe sometimes, but Yrden works better I think ).

Ah, allright. Still, not too crazy about the cape, can I get rid of it or is it fixed?

BTW: Ahem, how's the stats?

I forgot the stats and I have already replaced it.

LOL...

My Kayran Plate is
AC 13 (3 upgrade slots)
+50 Vitality
+36% resist poison
+35% resist incineration
+35% resist bleeding
5% magic damage reduction
5 vigor on combat

But that's because of the enhancements: Kayran, Dwarven and Mail. Original AC is 9. And the beast gives us 2 skins, one for the plate, one for the enhancement.

I decided not to use any bonus/imported items on my new run, hard diff. was keeping them to sell but game keeps wearing me with them on the prologue... I did't want to drop them because of the gold but I have to. Herbalist's Gloves and Mage's Trousers are hard to let go though. I'll probably use them all in my Insane run!

Wait 2 skins?! I must have used one by mistake during alchemy or never had the diagram for it.

I've been playing on normal and having a blast. I'm curious though, what are the differences between difficulty levels? On hard is the game less forgiving with damage taken, or do enemies have more health / damage reduction?

They definitely hit harder. Not sure about their health though. I seem to be killing them pretty fast. Faster than my first run on normal.. ahh sweet sweet experience! =)

I may up my difficulty then. I don't mind enemies hitting harder, but massive health bars irk me.  (almost as much as trolls in the cesspool that the GOG forums have become)

I have mostly played on Insane, only turning it down to Hard for one fight so I could learn to beat it after which I turned it back up. ( Going for Madman achievement ).

I could complete the fight on hard without using Quen but on insanity with Quen I would be very lucky to survive 2 hits from the beast. I also noticed the boss changed tactics slightly, not a major difference but it did blow off a tactic I developed on hard for it.

Crap. That sounds to good to pass. But what' up with the goofy red hood? Can I take it off or is it part of the armor?

That's interesting the tactics may have changed, one reason I was interested in increasing the difficulty was the potential for better AI or greater frequency of ability use from enemies. I enjoy challenging combat in games, I just hate having to monotonously hack away at huge life bars.

It's good to hear Quen use wasn't necessary, I haven't been using it myself outside of a few bits in the prologue. I'm honestly surprised the base sign gives you 100% damage reduction right out of the gate; it seems overpowered, not that the game is a cakewalk with it.

With 200% extra damage taken when attacked from behind... Quen wears off very fast sometimes. It has a limit to the dmg it can absord. Going through Hard diff without it seems suicide for me. Heck, even Normal diff is hard enough in this game until you really get to master combat. And no matter how much you dodge or block or anything, sometimes they gang up and one will always hit you from behind! It hurts!

@Avalla'ch - No, I don't think you can remove the hood. But you should find better armor in Act 2 so, it's only temporary I guess.

I still prefer walking around with Quen especially since I'm going the magic route first so if i get hurt from behind Quen absorbs the damage insteead of Geralt taking 200% damage. Doesn't take too much to kill him.

Same here, that's why I loved to play Crysis 2 in higher difficulties. :)

Glad to hear they went this path for Witcher 2. I just get pissed off when enemies take hits like there is no tommorrow. Another great way to crank up the difficulty is to give enemies new moves/spells or something. Or just add few more enemies to the fight.
:)

I haven't played Crysis 2, but Crysis 1 with the reality mod that is floating around out there is great. Not to mention it's the only time knowing some Korean has ever been useful to me in a video game.

I'll probably try out hard, but if it's too much of a slog I'm going to stick to normal unless the game starts to get too easy (it's still seriously challenging for me now though). I'm most interested in doing a swordsmanship / alchemy build at the expense of magic, and I've found upgraded block to be sufficient for protection so far if you invest in vigor as well. Once you start damaging multiple enemies with whirl I think the fights will get a lot easier.

Well honestly right now at level 19 in the Magic tree I'm finding it kind on the easy side on Hard difficulty. Quen does a crap load of damage to anyone hitting me and last for three minutes and hits 3 targets at once and I can still upgrade my Quen to hit more targets.

Glylph enhancement Level 1 - Yrden traps join together, preventing foes from moving between glyphs at rank 2 enemies take 5 damage every second. I haven't reached high enough level to buy it yet but I really wanna try that out. Since I use yrden a lot.
