Short biased review (hard to discuss how awesome this game really is without spoilers):

The Witcher 2 is the best RPG I've experienced since Throne of Bhaal. Lets just say the path I chose presented real choices that definitely left me wanting more in a good way. I really, really hope CD Projekt allows us resolution for major decisions in the future. (I'll definitely replay to see different paths but my first run is canon.)

This. So much this.

Man I am loving this game. Near the end of act one, and talk about choices having impact. A decision against a clock on whether to give someone a sword, something so simple, wow.

Those Europeans...giving us a different perspective on how choices don't always have to be "omg save the Collector base"

Not that you just keep bring up the same thing. You asked a question before and we answered what else is there to say?

Well, first I said "Geralt sounds terrible, does it get better?" and some people told me yes, some people told me no, and one person called me a ******.

Then I said "Well, I hope the rest of the game can make up for it, then. I suspect that it will, and I will give this game at least what I gave DA2." Then someone said "DA2 suxxors."

I can't help it if you guys keep wanting to attempt to refute my arguments, drawing them out.

As far as "bringing up the same thing," you do realize that the DA2 haters - to this very minute - are still saying the same things about DA2 as they were three months ago? Not even with any specifics anymore, just "olol DA2 didn't have rolplaying ololol."

I'm here to discuss TW2 and it's potential failings while I wait for this long download, with the intent of either confirming or retracting them after I have played. I'm sorry if you cannot handle it when someone criticizes a game you like. Perhaps you should craft some thicker skin in an unnecessarily complex crafting window. ;)

Gtfo with da2 and da2 haters talk please.   Play the game or don't , just make up your damn mind. I am sure none of us will lose any sleep if you don't.

On topic. I just beat the game following Roche and, damn , i thought it was already pretty deep in Flotsam but it got a lot deeper. Loved how all the choices had REAL consequences, not just change of dialogue. Music remains good and I will probably import some of it into Oblivion now. :wizard:

Had a couple of bugs though. Couldn't burn one corpse in chapter 2 and fell underground during the eternal battle. Great story by the way with that eternal battle. Inventory system could use some work but they don't expect you to hoard everything. You don't need over to carry over 200 lumber. I kept my ingredients in 10s max, sold the books I've read, sold the patterns and designs that I no longer needed and my inventory remained organized.

Loved the flashback animations. Felt real unique and exciting to find out more.

That was on Normal. Time to beat it on Hard :)

No, I think the designers (the original author?) simply tried to make Geralt too hardened and stoic and hit the other end of the spectrum: flat and boring.

It's funny you say that, since there's more than one occasion in the books where other characters call out Geralt on acting hardened and stoic. To them he seems stubborn and self-important, as he does to you.

I really recommend picking up The Last Wish to get a better idea of the character before plunging into the game. It would make it a lot more enjoyable, and you'd catch quite a bit of references.

It's not that the Geralt from the games is completely different - he's very well adapted, but video games don't excel at showing emotional turmoil, doubt, weakness and insignificance, and those are recurring themes in Sapkowski's writing.

It's hard to catch those nuances in the game, without familiarising yourself with the books first.

I'm on a second playthrough, doing some missions I skipped earlier. And got a small question. Hung Over - I keep failing at throwing knives vs Ves. I can beat those guys at arm wrestling fine (beat up Roche too xD), but I don't understand why she always wins, if the guy says oar on the wall I see it on left and hit it, if it's the map, that's right in front. What am I doing wrong?

Who else sided with Iorveth and not with Roche in Act I? I quite like Iorveth actually.A lot more than Roche.
Anyway, just finished Act I and I absolutely adore TW2.One of the best RPGs and games that I played. It even beats DA:O.

This I can appreciate, though I won't get the book before I finish the download, if at all. I never said that the character archetype is poor, but simply that it appeared to be "executed poorly" in the game, to borrow a catch phrase from DA2 critics. But that's not to say I'm making mountains out of mole hills - being distanced from the protagonist in such a manner, and instead drawn to the supporting characters, is hardly an optimal outcome when done unintentionally.

Roche is a much better character but Iorveth's path seems to be more fun and has more hidden talents

and Saskia is hot

Isn't Roche voiced by the urm.. merchant guy(part of Athenril's quest) in DA2 you meet when entering Kirkwall for the first time?

She reminds of Aveline except more awesome and hotter. She a hot blonde who has the respect of everyone and can lead an army and trying to build a free state.

So much for Witcher 2 being misogynist.

I sided with Iorveth on my first playthough, and I didn't regret the decision. I won't spoil it for you, but it makes for a good act 2. This playthrough I'm going to side with Roche, and i hear that it is a completely different act 2. Can't wait.
